Bizzell - Why has he been dropped.

 Why has Biz been dropped. I would thought that apart from a few clangers he has been amongst the most consistent defenders since he has been back??

i see bizzell as competing for the same position rivers players (in a perfect world), rivers is injured however and bizz still isnt in.

on paper the tall defenders picked ahead of him are ferguson, carroll, holland, miller and frawley. carroll and biz are not playing the same position and bizz comes in. miller and ferg are getting played to see if they are capable etc. last roll of the dice. frawley is getting played for development purposes and i hope he is picked ahead of bizz for this reason...

that leaves bizz competing with holland. realistically, after carroll, holland is the only player in that list capable of picking up a strong tall defender, which is a blight on miller, but he is 'learning the ropes' in the back half...dropping holland for bizz would leave the backline very skinny wouldnt it?

i have commented on bizzell this year and dismissed him a number of times. he has proved me wrong somewhat with his on field performances and has played well at times. however, i still dont think bizzell is part of our future and i would be happy if this year was his last. because of that i would rather see development take priority...

Probably because he has shown he is good enough to still be on our list next year.

So why play him now when the club can free up his position and give the kids a go to see what they have to offer.

Go Dees - onward and upward

Who can tell, probably to make sure we don't win another game, hence why ward and brown are still in :)

Brown's last five games:

Kicks Handballs Possessions Marks Tackles

13 8 21 8 4

11 13 24 8 5

18 11 29 8 2

13 4 17 9 2

9 18 27 8 1

If you want to argue not to drop Bizzell, what is your argument to drop Brown?

Stats mean very little.

Yes, he got the ball.

But what did he do with it?

Even if he was hitting targets, where were those targets? Were they long direct passes into the forward fifty or chips sideways in the back pocket?

If you look at his possessions they are 15 meter kicks, 2 meter handballs that never hurt the opposition, he has played his best football this year when he played FFlank on mcleod where his 20 meter chips to a forward are useful,

he can have 25 possessions, hit the target 85% of the time and still not hurt the opposition,

the amount of 2 meter handballs to players sometimes in a worse position last week was mind boggling, as i have said in another post if there was a stat for players being tackled or under extreme pressure after recieving the ball brown would be near the top, if not the top.

Don't forget that Sandy will be playing finals. With the amount of injuries we've had this year, a lot of players would not have played enough games for Sandy, to warrant their qualification for the finals or GF.

The likes of Dunn, Biz, PJ, Jamar, etc...... all need to play a certain amount of games, which they probably at the moment, to qualify. Sandy going for a 4th straight is the only thing going for the MFC right now, why stuff it up???

That's why i think certain players are "dropped".

I don't think Sandy will agree with that.

Lamb, Liddell, VALENTI, Gallagher, Sautner, Poyas, Summers, Crowe, Biddlecomb are the reasons why Sandy wins consistently. They are the core that makes them one of the best VFL lists around IMO.

Fill in the gaps with MFC playas n u've got a really good team.

Bizzell's papers are stamped. Didn't do much wrong n dropped so he's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEsky.

Reckon you nailed it right there - I also recall Williams saying they will be looking to qualify a few more of the Melboune players to enable them to play finals.

Where did i say that the melbourne players are the reason for Sandy's success??? All i said was that the MFC will try and qualify players for the VFL finals or GF, so Mark Williams will be able to choose the players he wants in the team. He can't choose them if they ain't qualified.

I too reckon that the reason where Sandy is, is because of the Sandy players. Hell, there would be quite a few from the MFC and Sandy that should swap around.

Read and understand what i'm writing before you respond.

Bizzel can read the play as good as anyone, he is great at being the third man up and moving to position to create the overlap when his team has the ball.

But Bizzel is too slow to play on most AFL forwards and too small to play on the big power forwards. Whelan, Ward (because of pace), Bell and Wheatley are ahead of him for the small option and Rivers, Carroll and Holland (and probably Ferguson) are ahead of him for the tall option. With Petterd and Frawley developing it is hard to see him at the club in any future thinking. And why is he not playing, this week because his lack of speed and height is just getting exposed by the opposition, unless Sydney decide to play a small guy on one leg.

deanox, the only reason why I'd play him is to teach the kids how to play, but of course when the kids don't get picked it's pointless. He is easily the best player we have in our defence.

In my ideal world I'd have him and Carroll, with Frawley, Buckley, CJ and Bell, with a view to looking towards the future.

I'm pleased to introduce the best player in our defence... easily... by an absolute mile:

Who is the person that Rivers has publicly stated is responsible for his development?

I'm please to introduce for a second time - Clint Bizzell

I'm pretty confident that Rivers was a good player before he met Clint Bizzell, and will continue to be a good player long after Bizzell has retired.

Keep him on to help the kids if you like. We've got so many other players we need to cut, he might just survive and enjoy a year down at Sandy.

If you want to argue not to drop Bizzell, what is your argument to drop Brown?

Every time I see Brown and Ward in our top possessions list I cringe.

It's their disposal - routinely a bad decision, kicking off target and frighteningly often they produce genuine clangers.

This is particularly bad when we're trying to build confidence and system into young players, who find themselves having to suddenly drop what they're doing and respond to yet another turnover.

Ward and Brown deserve to have careers studded with Norm Goss medals as they power Sandringham to ever more premierships, and their effort is commendable, but they just aren't damaging players - has anyone ever seen either of them tagged?

Getting back to Bizzel, I think his decisions and disposal are better, and he is actually a reassuring presence because he is often in the right place to take the 'relieving' defensive mark.

I wouldn't mind seeing him still on the list next year.

That's not what he said after winning the Rising star award. He said that he made an effort to model his game on Bizzell's and that he was an integral part of his own development.

Sure, play the kids, but they still need to actually learn how to play the game from at least one competent mature player around them, which has been a major problem with the team for years.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
