Possible retirement / mid season draftee?

Featured Replies

Gettable suggesting Tom Campbell might be considering retirement? Feel sorry for him - no senior games at the Dees, and a long term injury. If he does decide to step away, it opens up another possibility...

Saw him at the game on Sunday’s, said he would aim to be back later this year. Feeling a bit better. Then this??

Please, let's not do this again.

I heard this around the beginning of the season from a father of a potential recruit we've been monitoring for a couple of years. Wouldn't surprise me if it's true.

Same. He was at the food stand outside the President's Room with his little boy at the same time I was. At best he'll be running around for Casey on his return and it's a bit of a trip considering he lives in Kensington.

Mid season draft is becoming more and more important with some beauties getting picked up

Realistically, Campbell won't be playing for the ones. But he has a contract so we would need to work out something fair for him

Won't be Ah-Mu, given the rules in place, if he goes undrafted we can still have Academy rights to him in the ND this year (until age 21) to reward the NGA academies and to show that progression isnt always linnear

i think a KPD is a must. Blight was my pre-season nominee but theres other state players out there

Tom Bell 197cm KPD 20yo SANFL Crows was the name dropped on gettable

I would take pretty much any of the names below, except Bell and Pinnock i dont think theyre what we need

Other names mentioned

Oliver Griffen - mid/fwd playing overage TAC Cup

Max Mapley - TAS VFL ruck 20yo, may opt out and sign with them for their afl campaign (2yrs away)

Jed Hagan - TAS VFL small fwd previously Port listed

Jaxon Artemis -TAS VFL 19yo wingman

James Tarrant -26yo KPF NM VFL

Xavier Bamert - 19yo NM VFL 185cm

Oscar Ainsworth - STK SSP overlooked 19yo

James Bell - GWS VFL/overlooked SSP ADEL - previous afl listed swan

Louis Pinnock - Werribee capt. VFL capt mature age

Jett Elek -201cm 19yo KPF

@Demonstone (or others?): care to riff on the possibility that TOM BELL might replace TOM CAMPBELL?

Something about striking camp, perhaps?

On behalf of my 9-month old, I endorse the direction this is going and make a special request to find a 'abuuwa' and a 'yiggigidy jig jig'.

I’ll nominate Tom Barnett. Coburg key defender. Starring in VFL against AFL listed forwards. Excellent mark. Good size at 197cms. Only 20yo ex Calder Cannons.

loosely this is the list of picks as it stands now (any injury 4month+ i have included on the list with an *) as it is speculative

Ess, Car, Ric if had a spot would currently get Pick1 so could look to free up a spot (have listed their best current route there here in my opinion)

Ess - Fiorini back (TBC) / Guelfi ret.

Car - LCamp kidney / Acres ret.

Ric - Clarke knee

West Coast (Dev Rob knee)

GWS (Green knee)

St Kilda (carry over)

Port Adelaide (carry over/Soldo knee)

Collingwood (carry over)

Adelaide (carry over)

Melbourne (Campbell ret.)

W. Bulldogs (Darcy knee)

Geelong(Miers/Barker/Stengle inj)*

Hawthorn (carry over)

Sydney (King inj.)*

——————————————

West Coast (Newton foot)

Port Adelaide (Lord knee)

Melbourne (McAdam ret.)*

Sydney (Adams ret.)*

—————————————

Port Adelaide (Sinn shoulder)*

he was in our nga but was inelligible to be selected by us automatically last season

i doubt anything has changed in this regards

Has AH MU got any choice to stay with Casey this year in order to become a Dees player next year? If AH MU leaves do we get another NGA player next year?

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
