Fritta was lucky in the end 4.1 was a bit of lipstick on the proverbial... He stopped and waited 3 times and got spoilt, very lazy attack on the ball - junior footy skills taught to run through the oncoming ball

Petty does some good things, but ffs makes some consistently bad errors with ball in hand

Patty Cross 183cm, attack on the contest in the last - 1 vs 3 often and threw his body at it hard.... Loved it ❤️💙. But someone else should be playing full forward

Fancy having a coach who makes moves. Koltyn must have impressed the coach in the pre season because kings prepared to back him or move him to another position if plan a doesn't work. He's installed confidence in koltyn

Kings has said many times that he wants all his players to play multiple positions so we’re going to see many moves like this. It’s why it’s so exciting to watch …a player may be struggling then he’s sent to another position and we see literally a new player ..I love it

Another question Was that Jaydn hunt congratulating Fritta. In the rooms after the game. Only saw it once, not sure.

I also thought I spotted James Harmes as the players went in...

its definitely up there with some other recent classic i've attended in recent years, other noticeable ones.

Vs Brisbane in 2023 when Milkshake scored a late goal to win the game.

vs Carlton in 2022 when Pickett scored a late goal to win the game,

He was there, as were a few of our past players, including Clarrie

I was hoping Clarry would be there :-)

spot on - an impossible game is afl to adjudicate

Agree with you on the late free's but things balance out over the game. They got two goals from bad free's and if some of their throws were paid we could have been further ahead. We throw as well but I felt today, for both sides, tackles around the head were just not paid. A very difficult game to umpire however if we just went back to the "main rules" rather than interpretations for a fast game the umpires would make a better fist of it. Fast game, more goals then Channel 7 can sell more advertising. Grrrr

Don’t tell Pickett Fence.

Didn't see that but I did see Harmesy on the ground after the game while Gawn and TMac were getting chaired off.

Pure comedy this..

Best 30mins you can spend today will be on this.

Paddy Cross had more impact than many might think.

Yes he kicked one, but he gave the ball to Chin for his on goal from the kick off line and spoiled a likely mark to a key Blues back, punching the ball straight to Fritta for that swing around goal.

He may have had other assists too, but more importantly, we have another AFL standard player here.

There are other players who could be AFL standard out there who have been overlooked and hopefully we are searching one or two out for future drafting.

Confession time.

I thought about not doing this. I don't want to make things about me. I don't want to draw attention to myself, if you want to have a pop at me go for it (although it's unlikely I'll read it). It's hard to lie here and although I don't know a lot of people here personally, I do like to share occasionally.

I left the game early yesterday. As with most other people it's something I hate doing. During the Goodwin top 4 runs, footy came first and I blew off a lot of family events to attend games and watch them. That night in early 2023 when Max was injured up in Brisbane I walked out of the restaurant at my brother's birthday and didn't come back. In the last year I've really thought about my relationship with supporting this club and as much as I love it I don't want to be married to it. I'm going to be a parent next month and my mum just finished several rounds of chemo. I see this time as one to still be a good fan but repay the debt a little. There was a chance I wasn't going to make it at all to this game but living close by I did want to make an appearance for Max and Tom.

I left during the third quarter to get home and be with my partner. It wasn't due to losing because as you know we were coming back. I still watched on and despite a big fluff up in the stream just before Langford kicked the go-ahead goal, I loved every bit of it and couldn't have been more proud.

I take being a supporter seriously. I stayed to the end in 08 against Freo, same with Brisbane in 23 when we were nearly 4 goals down with 6 mins to go. Maybe I'm not the biggest and best Demons fan right now but life has it's ebbs and flows.

To those of you there till the end, you're awesome. Truly awesome.

That's all.

I thought I saw Kolt help Cripps up off the ground soon after that goal. Om 🙏

Clarrie used to help oppo up off the ground. I asked him why he did so and he said, “I dunno, you see a bloke on his @rze and you help him up.”

I guess it’s intrinsic with some people.

You sure did he was out on the ground in the guard of honour with the families.

Well done James and Clarry, paying respect to friends and ex team mates and always welcome back at Melbourne, their football home.

I'm not sure if anyone who makes comments like this has actually played footy... Maybe just a little bit of kick to kick in the back yard.

Fritta is amazing at reading the ball and is great at leading to the ball, particularly if it is kicked in to space he can LEAD IN TO. If he's running into space and has the ball kicked at him (not where he's going), he has literally moments to stop and wait for the ball. Pretty hard to run through the ball in these cases. Not sure he's able to stop, run back, then run forward at the ball all while the ball is in flight.

It's why I wasn't as down on JVRs game yesterday as some. Yes he had little impact (although we kicked a few in a row when he went into the ruck in the 3rd) but it's hard as a forward when the ball is being kicked on top of your head. You have to sit there waiting for it while the defender just jumps over the top for the spoil/mark. Space is a forwards best friend.

Patrick Cripps shoved Kolt to the ground after a decent goal, totally unnecessary! Always a folly to crow early, but I hope sometime Kolt reminds him of the final result. I enjoyed the Kama..

What happened to Crippa the front runner after half time?

I hope Kolt got into him.

Played footy from under 9s till my late 20's seeing you're wondering.
And any-one who has a clue knows you can't just wait for a hot footy.
We all know he can play, we also know some of his efforts and be quite half arzed.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
