He's kind of a utility and i guess most player's are expected to be able to play a number of roles as they gain experience.

But by his own admission, during his last couple of years under Simon he wasn't sure what role / position he was playing from week to week. And it showed.

He seems to look more at home once he goes into the middle and might be exactly the first use / extractor or extra inside mid we need, alongside Steele. Especially while Vines is out.

King will need a season or so to sort all that out of course. Or maybe less time if today's second half is anything to go by.

Seemed to me to have it sorted in about 40 minutes.

No way he gets 3 votes.

WTAF JUST HAPPENED!

DID THAT REALLY HAPPEN?!!

At halftime I was out having a ciggie with Mumma Frittata. I was crying and saying if I wasn’t in the cheer squad I’d bail in a heartbeat (I’ve been really unwell all week and shouldn’t have been off the sick couch). Mumma F told me to have faith, there’s still plenty of time, we might turn it around, etc. I smiled and nodded but was all the while thinking poor sweet Pauline, she’s about to be hit by the reality bus.

But then that happened. I still don’t know how we pulled that off but I don’t care, we [censored] did it!

i said to my kids at quarter time, if this game continued in the same vein, we'll go home at halftime.

They ribbed me all the way home about whether i was glad we stayed.

I sure was glad we stayed Great turnaround and best game I've attended for a few years.

I'm loving our goal kicking accuracy this season so far

18.12 v the saints and 15.10 today a huge factor in us winning those games

Helps when we aren't kicking the ball from the pocket all the time. Funny that.

King was fwd coach at Geelong and they were the no 1 Fwd side in the comp

Weirdly the Carlton fans around me didn’t seem that disappointed, or shocked. They just seemed mildly annoyed it was happening again, and sure as hell weren’t sticking around until the siren.

I was in the thick of Carlton fans today and dead set it was a mass Exodus with 4:30 to go and only 11 points down. I couldn't believe it.

The old ticker couldn't handle too many games like that. If the Demons could play four quarters like the last two, they could be a handful.

A great win and well done by all.

44 points in 12 minutes of football

I have to say this despite the potential blow back

Salem made a couple of howlers in the first quarter but he also had 7 contested touches in the same quarter. More than a 1/4 of our entire teams contested touches.

To me, a senior player trying to lead and contest when others were not.

not spoiling that kick for the debutant to mark was shizen

Won't be the last time it's pulled off this year either.

Interesting.

King mentioned in his postgame presser that Rivers was dropped for team balance, because he hasn’t been at his best, and also because of something he’s been dealing with physically that he said didn’t want to get into.

Roundabout way of telling him to get a haircut.

"And shave those sideburns!"

Already hit van Rooyen, Petty and Chandler. How Sharp continues to get a game under the same coach is a mystery.

Really starting to love the Kolt

Stood over by Cripps. Pushed around. never wavered.

His energy and touch will be important.

Yes, because of his lack of speed he is second to the ball a lot.

But it’s a close second…

I was about to make fun of Sharp and Fritta’s haircuts and then I remembered I started balding at 23 😆.

Glad to see Petty is accepting his life as a proud bald man

One goal to half time then 14 in the second half. WOW What a turnaround.

Need to seriously fix our first quarters though.

You would think Riv needs to go back to half back. Easy swap for CJ. Interesting that King said he has been carrying an injury also

Which backs up what @Ghostwriter said last week. Scoop GW.

I thought Culley was pretty handy (and different) in the middle too. Causes a bit of havoc in there

Has anyone looked at the worm?

Second half it’s like when John Howard brought up the GST

From Dannyz' post it seems that it's a bit serious and he's been carrying it for a while, not sure he'll be out for just the week.

Didn’t like it when Cripps did that to Kolt and ain’t karma a biatch.

Easy to do [censored] like that when ur team is rolling but crips didn’t do much when the game was on the line. Great to c. Also loved Culleys tackle on Cripps and he got done for holding the ball. Classic.

What was the Melbourne crowd like? I couldn't be there today but definitely scared some of my neighbours.

Very well represented in the Ponsford Stand. And loud!

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
