If Culley is fit I’d be including him. Was very good across the preseason.

A few positives to take away.

Windsor played as his preseason suggested

Roo looks better with proper ball movement to lead to

Were on track to kick 100 points 2 weeks in a row

We’re good to watch again

Negatives

Kentfield doing a knee just as he was looking to find his way at afl level

Defence looks shaky, there will be times we get scored heavily against I feel, but given his interrupted preseason petty will be better

A shortened game effectively gives the saints two games match fitness over us come round 1, which is disappointing as on what we’ve seen so far I’d otherwise be very confident…

Laurie apart from a goal minimal impact

Tholstrup .... Ditto

Chandler .... dont know why people on this site rave about him kicked a goal and did little else

But I will end on a HUGE positive..

Other than the 21 G.F it was the BEST game I've seen FRITTA play

Agree, early days but fritta looks engaged and the new game style appears to fit him too. Here’s hoping he’s finally getting back to his best

He will become a better asset and a missing cog his foot passing skills will enable Brodie, Kentfield, and Roo to run on to the ball instead of bomb it in.

Our key talls are going down like 9 pins, unfortunate for Kentfield.

Windsor and Langford were fantastic. The tap work from Gawn was sublime.

Team V Saints

B: Lever, Petty, McDonald

HB: Jiath, Turner, Salem

C: Langford, Steele, Lindsay

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, K.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Miocek, L.Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Rivers, Windsor

IC: Langdon, Sparrow, Howes, Tholstrup, Heath

EMERG: Laurie, Culley, Sharp

Good team but full backline too slow, need someone to do crumbing etc. Never Jetta like šŸ˜„

Only radio from my end but what was wrong with CJ'S game?

Remembered that we need to take risks from half back. Sideways kicks and kicks down the line were from the Goodwin era and so so PassĆØ

In the play all game with 15 possessions at 80% DE. On radio, they praised his game

I loved his game but his kicking was ā€œiffyā€. However after a couple of howlers he hand balled ā€˜ then kicked long. Given he only had half a game last week & again today hopefully he becomes more comfortable . However his speed.. intercept marking was excellent. I overall liked Petty’d game but he was rusty & made a few ā€œbluesā€ but promising,

Totally Agree Sam Frost 2.0

I don’t care what the stats say - missed targets by a mile when open and running with the ball.

Twice he kicked badly & I was right there. Gosh harsh criticism for a player who is coming from another club & is learning our system. He had some amazing intercept marking …broke lines ..exciting.

Get off the couch, go along to the ground and watch him live for a full game — his pressure, off-ball work, repeat efforts and defensive running are why he is so highly regarded.
All the stuff that wins us the ball and creates goals but doesn’t put his name in bold on the stat sheet.

If you’re only judging him by one goal and a handful of touches, you’re missing half the job description.

Well, in all fairness, the entire squad is learning our system, as King is introducing pretty much an entirely different game plan to that of his predecessor.

At the moment, my greatest fear is that we aren’t handling rebounds well at all, and unless our defence really tightens up, we’re going to suffer big time against better teams. I love Petty, but I wish he’d reign it in a little so that he’s not giving away so many free kicks.

  • Midfield & general teamwork humming

  • JVR & Fritsch look revitalised (add Mihocek)

  • Inside 50 entries using footy smarts (finally)

  • Kentfield unlucky but hopefully it's not a long term knee injury ... but now we can fit the Moose into the mix (Silver lining)

  • Rivers, Lindsay, Langford, Sparrow, Kozzie, Langdon, Windsor & Steele all using the ball well

  • The run and rebound out of the backline - work in progress (e.g. - CJ got lots of it but ball use?)

  • Players enjoying their footy

When is AMW back? It’s been about a year?

Agree, thought he played well and added some much needed spark but his kicks go straight up so so high. Fix that up and looking forward to seeing what he can do.

As long as the forward experiment didn’t ruin his judgement and he gets back to the defender he was, he’s a great reader of the play and intercept marker at least as good as May IMHO. There was a game here in Adelaide where he won the game himself as he marked every time the crows looked threatening. First game after an interrupted preseason so not the time to judge him. Hoping he’ll settle back into his favoured position and isn’t dreaming of getting back to Wudinna (not far from great fishing spots but not much else out that way so there’s some hope)

How did Kolt play in everyone's opinion?

poor to average

he's an honest trier but limited skillset and does dumb things regularly

he should be in our 23 for rd 1 as we're so short of fit players and we need him to actually be a warm, fit body

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
