Steele Sidebottom count? 😂

Honorary: 2x5 surname 😄

a impartial friend really revved me up on Steele the other day - pre Ross Lyon he was a very dominant player. If Kingy wants to let him play in his old mould a bit he could be really valuable for us. Or at least a really clever Supercoach pick.

  • Matthews

Assuming White is low on your list due to needing to beef up, and Matthews re injury?

How’s Heath going? I have seen some really positive posts saying he may be the 5th bench player. Is there someone you could compare him to, ie: Jackson (ground work and follow up)?

Haven’t seen much of his gameplay so curious if he’s a rough and tough ruck, or follows up, or gets around the ground a lot like Gawn - I assume with his body type he’s more a rough and tough ruck..

Kossie's surname is Kropinyeri-Pickett but it hasn't been used since he was drafted. I suspect LSP will be the same.

St Kilda supporters were furious they traded him.

I'm cautiously optimistic about him but he didn't have a particularly good 2025.

Bailey Humphrey is looking fantastic and is in great spirits. Just told me theres only 180 days left until he's a Dee. He's keen I'll give him that.

That’s ages 😢

I am pleasantly surprised by Kal White. Playing him up forward, he has kicked goals, looks a beautiful kick and is very athletic. I don't expect him to play this year, but he has all the moves. We may not be aware of it, but with so many first-rounders in the last 2 years and a heap of talented youngsters, I hope our rebuild on the run will bring a lot of success, and I love the way we have changed our game style. None of the pundits have noticed this YET.

Oh you have fun ahead DD. Mine started at about 24, except for sunburn ( just remember a hat) and occasionally hitting your head it's all fine. Honestly it has never worried me. The up side you save a fortune on Shampoo. Please don't wear a wig they look ridiculous.

Time will tell OD but it was time to change coach. We were stuck in a time warp. New ideas now abound.

Been to a few sessions. Here’s my take.

Taylor - what you see in his draft highlights is pretty much how I’ve seen him - Just not as expansive as yet but he’s 10 weeks in so all goods. Will be a gun no doubt. Will get an early debut due to Bowey injury.

Pickett - got the second Kozz we always wanted. This kids gonna bring people to the footy. Has more poise than Kozzy at the same age. Super excited about this boy, gonna be a jet & a whole heap of fun. Debut’s round 1 for sure.

Jiath - yeah CJ’s looking nice. Covers the ground beautifully & is always looking to advance the footy quickly with run & carry. Can maybe get caught doing too much sometimes but his game sense will improve with the more games he plays. Think Héritier Lumumba.

Heath - times I’ve been to training he’s been rarely sighted or running the boundary. Haven’t seen enough.

Steele - will fill the Viney void perfectly, plus he’s an elite tackler. Just quietly going about his business - efficiently. Would rather 24 touches from Steele than Viney put it that way. He’ll play round 1.

White - moves real nice for 200+cm. Has some goal sense. Will develop @ Casey for a couple years.

Berry - just by the look of him you wouldn’t think he’s a footballer (respectfully). For a bloke thats come from playing basketball, he looks ok… but also haven’t seen enough.

Onley - strong boy. Improvement will need to come from his disposal.

Mihocek - been running the boundary the last 2-3 sessions now. Not ideal but hopefully he’s back in the main group within the next week or so.

Matthews - said late last year that I had a good conversation with a father of a boy who’s been teammates with Tom over the past couple years down Gippsland way. Said he’s a ripping kid. Very crafty small forward who know’s where the goals are. Was south gippy power skipper too. Would love to know his injury timeframe.

Thanks to all who have been to preseason.

Is Cuz more slightly built that Koz at the same stage of their development? Sounds mouth wateringly exciting

Trelly is already 20 years old, as he went undrafted previously so was a mature aged when we picked him up. I’d say he’s more slightly built and further back than Kozzie was in year 2-3 with us at the same age…

He’s taller and appears to have greater scope for around the ground roles though IMO. Could see him becoming an elite half back or winger possibly, similar to Wangineen-Milera.

I’m certainly no expert on all things draft, literally no clue.

Why was he picked up so early this year by us, and no one took him last year?

Like I said, no clue how draft works. Was he injured or another reason teams passed him up last year?

I guess I’m curious why we took him early when we had later picks and I do recall people saying he would not be an early pick.

Sounds like either way, it’s gone really well in our favor and that he’s a jet, just curious on how it works and why really..

To be fair on Latrelle, Kysiash did kick 40 goals as a small forward in a premiership season at that age, so you can be a long way further back and still be in front of most mere mortals! 😀

Didn't realise just how much taller L is than K, a full 11cm. Then again, I never quite think of Kysaiah as being quite so small.

It is very nice to be getting reports of Latrelle showing enough that we can all agree the recruiters did actually see something in him rather than going for romance.

As for why he was passed over for a couple of drafts... sometimes a body doesn't quite click or an attitude doesn't quite firm up for a couple of extra years.

Mihocek and Fritsch were even later to the party, coincidentally in the same draft year in the end. Jai Culley had to wait for a mid-season draft and only recently began looking like a genuine AFL player. Daniel Turner also a mid-season pick who took a couple of years and now looks very handy.

A glance at our 12 players age 20-23, from Latrelle Pickett to Bailey Laurie, only four have proven they are AFL level so far - Bowey, Turner, Van Rooyen and Windsor. It is unnerving and exciting to think that the progress or not of those other 8 is going to be the defining character of our season. Just three or four solid roleplayers from that group has us back to being a fully competitive best 25 again.

I wouldnt say i'm an expert, but I do get into the draft heavily once the season ends.

Latrelle played for Norwood in the SANFL in 2023 and then went home to Tumby Bay at some point. While it was never explicitly explained, the suggestion is that he didnt have the maturity to cope away from home or in an elite pathway for an extended period.

In 2025 he returned to the SANFL for Glenelg reserves and did the work, proving he was now mature enough to make it. Latrelle has touched on this himself in interviews on draft night without going into the details.

There are interviews with Jason Taylor post draft saying that we had kept an eye on him over the years, which suggests that he likely would have been given a list spot by us or another club earlier if he had stuck in out at Norwood in either 2023 or 2024.

He bolted up draft boards after displaying his talents in the Glenelg seniors and kicking four goals in a game. Glenelg were an excellent side in 2025 so it was a hard team to get into.

Early phantom drafts (July) suggested he would be taken at around pick 30. By November it was clear he would be taken earlier with suggestions a number of clubs were keen. Of note that I can remember being rumoured were GWS, North and ourselves.

We certainly shocked most draft "experts" by taking him as high as pick 12 but we knew he would not make it to our next pick with GWS and North interested. North in particular are of interest as they took Dovaston with their pick who many on here were keen on (not me).

The criticism of reaching for him has its points. He played the majority of 2025 in the SANFL reserves. There were also some teams on the phone during the draft offering us good future picks in exchange for pick 12 with Dyson Sharp in demand (Adelaide all but confirmed and Collingwood rumored).

While at the end of the day we picked up Latrelle at pick 12, its doubtful he would have lasted much longer, but we will never be sure.

In a draft which was rumoured to be shallow, our true draft expert who we pay to do these things picked his man.

If Latrelle doesnt make the grade you will be hearing about it ad nauseam on here for the next 20 years.

Fingers crossed for the boy.
