A nice succinct answer.

His older brothers are a bit on the ‘meh’ side.

He’s better than both. He played really well for Casey where as Zane struggled (all be it in a harder role).

Very high floor as a versatile player across half back, wing, on ball given his size, movement and ball use. But probably does a lot of the dirty work rather than being a star when he’s playing alongside Harley Reid

Is Duursma projected to be generational/unicorn?

No. He doesn't have that explosive power or star attributes IMO. A player like Harley Reid could become a Dusty/Petracca style mid-forward who rips games apart. Duursma is great in the air and has a good leap, mostly excelled playing as a third tall IMO. He's tall utlity, but I'm not sure he's got the grunt or scope to become an elite midfielder as you'd want from a number 1 pick like him. Best position might be an issue for him at AFL level, and I don't think he'll be a star like you'd hope from a. number 1 pick.

This is true, and he's similar in nature, though bigger and more athletic. I don't see him having the power and hunger to be a big game changer either.

Would Duursma still be a top 3 pick if he was part of last year's draft?

Ben Waterworth from Fox Footy has the Bombers picking Farrow at Pick 10 to be ahead of us.

Pick 11 - Xavier Taylor

Pick 12 - Cameron Nairn

In the mix/trade watch: The Demons have no choice but to sit and wait to see which of the top-end players will remain on the board. They would love it if Sullivan Robeyslid to them after showing so much early interest in him. They’ve also been linked to both Sam Cummingand Jacob Farrow, with rivals tipping the Demons to select the prospect that slips through to their pick, should that come to fruition. This is also where the draft range of small forwards Lachy Dovaston and Latrelle Pickett start, although scouts scoured in recent days believe it might be a touch early.

I'd prefer Taylor over Farrow so fingers crossed!

No. But Langford imo would go pick 1 in this draft and Lindsay would probably be top 3.

Cal had Bo Allan coming to us last year

Then corrected things, and changed it to Lindsay in his 'late mail' edition

fair point. But he also has an extraordinary success rate

So our picks 7&8 could be picks 10&11 as per the phantom draft with GC 2&5 academy plus Trac & Lions after back to back flags get pick 6… what a BS rigged system

Yep, I'd take the late mail phantom draft to the bank

there will be shake ups I reckon. so maybe more like 80%

Cals strike rate, especially with the first round is pretty incredible.

The clubs do seem to have a really good relationship with him and probably it helps everyone to have some idea what the other sides are thinking on balance, i mean obviously if you think you're hiding a hidden gem it's different but that's less likely in the first round than it is on night 2.

Lot of Jack Watts about him imo.

Obviously very, very good but not ever going to lock down a permanent position.

Make no mistake, the Duursmas aren’t short on talent nor are they ‘soft’, but they are not known for their contested game.

They are not the Selwoods, more like the Morton’s

Willem’s Casey performance seemed to show much more willingness to get his hands ‘dirty’

  1. WCE - Duursma

  2. GCS - Uwland (matching WCE's bid)

  3. CAR - Dean (matching WCE's bid)

  4. WCE - CDT

I reckon west Coast will trade pick 2 and 13 to the bombers for 5 and 6

I think you're right, Essendon are desperate for CDT, whereas West Coast would be happy with Farrow and one of Cumming or Sharp. Essendon would need to add additional future picks I would think to move the Eagles. Might upset their play for pick 11 from Carlton.

Eagles want CDT

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
