Just had it confirmed from the Suns side “the deal” will go through and Trac will be a suns player next year - I didn’t ask much more out of respect, even though I’m ****ty I didn’t! My gut feel was it will be picks in exchange.

Sandra Sulley here

I don’t know what annoys me more

Not getting Humphrey or Trac getting what he wants

May his career deflate like a bad soufflé

Sad it has got to this point. I am one of those romantic fools that wants him to come to the 15 year reunion and have a smile on his face. Same with Oliver of course.

It was a great ride.

Agreed

Sad that he’s leaving and everyone is happy to see the back of him

Trac might get lucky and the Suns home attendances dramatically increase to 13K a game.

If we end up agreeing to something that appears 'unders', it is clear the club see him staying around as untenable. It suggests club and teammates do not really want him around which says everything really.

You could say that the club were tired of Trac asking for a trade 2 years running, but you can't conclude that his teammates don't want him around. As a footballer, he's been a total pro.

Anyone think that the issues from last year were resolved are kidding themselves. We would have told Trac recover and give us 12 months to get our club sorted and convince you to stay and that he’d have the clubs blessing to leave if he wasn't.

He never really gave it a shot - his mind was made up and I wonder whether this was even so prior to his injury.

The playing groups silence or distance during his NDE spoke volumes IMO and showed in hindsight that we were already quite a fractured club at the time.

I think it’s an acceptance on picks 7&8, for Trac & Spargo compo.

Think, or have been informed?

Informed of the meeting tomorrow

Informed it’s to discuss picks

Think it’s those 2 we agree to

Thanks for the update. Any intel that pick 24 and / or 28 not likely part of deal or just your opinion?

Well the ride was fun while it lasted but deep down ales thought this would be the outcome, pity.

Thanks Dannyz! Can’t help but feel disappointed not getting Humphrey.

I just love how they think they are running this entire trade and dictating its timing and terms. But the worst part is, on history, MFC will do a McAdam and take it...

Thanks @Dannyz .

It sounds like we had a massive crack at Humphrey and couldn't get it over the line, but I'm glad we did.

I do wonder whether we pushed for any other players (e.g. Walter) at any stage and if not whether we should have (but didn't because we put all of our eggs in the Humphrey basket).

Would be more than happy, if that was all we gave up, pick wise

What can we do? He wants out, 7 & 8 is as good an offer as we can get really.. we aren't desirable enough to have good players want to come to us, it is what it is.

That trade is still a better outcome for the club in the long-term than keeping Petracca. Nail those two picks and we'll have built the core for the next decade.

Can someone explain to me why it seems Carlton and Essendon will get multiple 1st rounders plus players for Curnow and Merrett respectively Yet they are saying we will get 2 1st rounders no players and have to give GC later pics back just to keep them happy ?

Isn't agreeing to trade petracca enough ?

All players want to leave their clubs , all 3 are contracted , all are stars , why are we seemingly going to get less ?

hopefully the Humphrey miracle happens !

Would you prefer pick 11, ~16 (2026), and Hayward and Florent over pick 7 and 8?

I think it's pretty close. Hayward is good fwd but Florent a fringe player.

And yes I am sure the Swans will be top 4 next year

And what are the bombers getting for Merrett? Last I heard there was no deal

We get more high draft picks before Tassie raid the draft to add to our growing list of quality youth

We let Barassi go in '65, now we are (possibly) letting Petracca go in 2025. I smell a rat.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
