For Oliver, I'd jump at a first round pick, all things considered

Collingwood don’t have one and GWS won’t give one up. A pick in the 30’s seems fair. But we should try to nab a GWS player too. They’re linked to Tom Berry, that would make 100 small forwards on their list, one should be ours

@Jaded No More don't even think about digging up the receipts that are no doubt there.

All along I reckon us paying a big proportion of his salary buys us a decent draft pick

$3.5Million for pick #13

I still believe he can play some great football and if GWS believe that as well, they might pay up

Harry Oliver.

I like everybody else would love BH to come in the Trac deal but really can’t see it happening.

My guess is it will be 6 or 7 this year plus their 2026 first and a fringe player for Trac.

We could add other elements to it such as throwing some second rounders in for one of their later first round picks or swap our 2027 2nd for their first.

I’m hoping we get pick 6 and 7 from GC and give them a variety of picks back for points. The 23 from Judd, our 2nd rd pick and the Spargs pick

Now fixated on Jed Walter being our Josh Kennedy.

And surely with the McVee (now ooficially pick 23) and Oliver trades we'll have something useful (e.g. picks with high points value that clubs are happy to trade because of low confidence in the draft pool) to give back to Gold Coast.

A deal involving Walter and a top quality pick coming to us while Gold Coast get a finals-tested star and an efficient stock of burner picks seems like a win for everyone.

Watch us pluck out the next Toumpas and Lucas Cook with those!

Subsidising his salary by $500k and a pick in the 30’s seem fair…??? Wtf?

They are going to need a bucket load of points for their academy players. May not get it done without one of their two top picks. Also I think it would be smarter for us to have a real crack at next years draft if we can’t get players as part of the deal.

Paying his salary for just gets him to his actual salary worth. 700k is Jamie Elliott money, that’s what he should he earning (at most).

Whilst he has upside he also has significant downside if he continues as a non damaging accumulator with poor defensive running.

I couldn’t value him above McVee for instance. Not on 700k for 5 years.

Well I reckon Oliver will put his head down and return to his best. What has happened to him is a monumental wake up call

He'll bounce back but it almost certainly won't be for the MFC*

I see his best as extracting the ball 30 times, hitting 20 targets by hand and learning how to hit 10 targets by foot (which is what he did in the last game against the Pies)

He's just got to get his head right and get physically fit. At a new club, that's entirely possible and he is only a 28yo ... in theory, he's got 6 or 7 years left

By the way, it won't annoy me if he plays well elsewhere, that's pro sports

It's what we get in return that interests me. And despite what we've been told, we need to push hard for a decent trade

*unless it is for the MFC, if a deal can't be reached

Tracc, as a player, is now damaged goods. Any time he has the ball, he is afraid of getting crunched, hence the very rushed kicking, hence the poor results. He pulls out of contests for the same reason. He is not a shadow of the player he was or could still be. That is a mental condition that only Trac, with professional help, can fix. Because of the lingering aftermath of the Moore incident, I cannot be too harsh on Trac for this.

But, I just cannot warm to him as a person or player at all - even when he was running on 12 cylinders. However, my opinion of him is not important. What is important is how on earth do we dress up mutton to appear as prime lamb to get the best return we can?

I have a large amount of anxiety about this also Macca that he's going to go full 'Jesse Hogan' after leaving Freo and return to an absolute beast.

Still, I don't think it will happen. He has had multiple wake up calls over the last few years and still just churns out solid B/C grade games.

He's not going to get better with us - so cut him loose.

I have full faith in Taylor, he is a genius

I haven't seen much mention of a future first pick. What if the Suns offer us pick 6, 17 and and their future first? Mind you their future first is likely to be in the teens. I really hope we don't go for that because I'd love to get Humphrey but surely future firsts or second will come into the equation?

Also, wouldn't Jason Taylor be heavily involved in these discussions if the Suns start just offering us picks? You'd think JT would have to have someone earmarked in the top 10 that he believes will be a good player. There's no point Lamb coming to him and saying I've got you picks 6 and 7 and then JT saying, 'Well that's great but the players likely to land there aren't going to suit us".

Yep, that's the thing. It almost certainly won't be with the MFC

But I'll be disappointed if we don't get much back in return

Taylor and Lamb have plenty of time to execute this. No need for panic stations .

Think it’s got to be a player + for Trac, as they knew it unlikely we could get low enough in the draft for the real top end kids for starters. Trade game still on and our terms unchanged.

McVee for round about expectations ( better than letting him walk to draft). Result satisfactory.

GWS still keen on Oliver and can deal , Collingwood seem a long way off. Be interesting what Collingwood offer.

Technically don’t have to let Clarry or Trac do we?

You say that on behalf of being a melbourne supporter.. thats it.

The fans dont speak on behalf of the footy club on whether its a good outcome or not.

The club will make a decision based on what they think is best for the footy club, not the supporters.

Like when they signed Oliver up to his contract?

If we get 3 first round picks for Trac, I’m picking up the phone to Butters straight away OR pick up the phone to WC and see if Pick 1 is up for grabs. Pick 6/7, Future 1st and a couple 14. They already have Pick 2.

We have ten list spots to fill…we might need some picks

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
