Out of the two players that left, I actually hope Trac succeeds more than Clarry due to the fair compensation GC provided to us, (and don't get me wrong I have no interest in a Trac and GC success story)

It will sting more if GWS benefit from a rejuvenated Clarry after exchanging a packet of chips for him.

Meanwhile, I'm not shocked he hasn't thanked the fans on social media. The bloke was ostensibly sacked from his workplace and presumably wants to see the back of us.

Thanks Dr Phil

You’re welcome. That’ll be $800

And yet he is still pulling $600k a year out of the MFC…

But you're happy to pay 700k for him to play in the reserves?

the new Sheriff in town laid out the ground rules and CO said 'I'm off'

Says it all for me. He has let us down repeatedly in the past 2 years. What's changed that is going to make hime play better?

He didn’t let us down repeatedly in the last 2 seasons. Two back he had a broken hand and wrist but kept playing to help us. When you have lightning hands that doesn’t help your output.

Last season he was playing with brand Petracca and they had lost their chemistry around the stoppages.

I would have given him another year to see what he could do under King.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he asks for a trade back when he hits form again

Regardless of the moves, I already wanted to see the Suns and Giants have some success. Better than Hawks, Cats, Lions, Pies etc

If the Suns win a flag I wouldn't begrudge Petracca getting another medal.

If the Giants win one I hope Oliver doesn't get one.

I would agree that on field he was trying and did have some injuries that didn't help at all. The point is though that the club did not want him around anymore and were willing to take less and pay more to move him on. The people in charge have looked foolish at times but they wouldn't be stupid.

It's a new day and we need to move forward into a new era.

There's a solid chance that Clayton will do very well at GWS.

What we know about him is that the one thing he's good at in life is football. It's not just his job but his vocation and solace.

As we've seen, when that goes wrong, he comes a bit undone and it takes a ton of effort and love to get him out of the spiral.

GWS will likely get some top grade football out of Oliver, but the risk is that even as he does he'll chew up the time and energy of coaches, leadership players who could be doing better things.

Who could Gawn have been mentoring instead of babysitting a 27yr old?

What revitalisation could Goodwin have been doing instead of being stuck holding his stars by the reins?

It's sad we had to move him on. It's not a mistake.

He had only marginal interest from only a few clubs, even with a discount of half his salary.

Ugh when you finally agree with someone who you always disagree with and they blow it with the last line of their post.

Maybe one day. I live in hope 😁

I would only wish Clarry well in his future and hope that he stays healthy over the remainder of his career but I have a question relating to the his contract, now with GWS Giants.

What happens if for some reason, the contract with the Giants gets terminated after two years and Clarry doesn't find another club. Is Melbourne still required to pay him over the following three years?

Take your point re hands but his 2 way running was pretty much non existent which is critical for today's mids. Add that to his disruptive influence and it was inevitable a new coach would want to assert his team first approach

yes, but only the amount agreed to with the giants

this applies only if he satisfies his contract obligations (whatever they may be)

to clarify: he now has a contract with mfc and a separate contract with gws, the above refers to his contract with mfc only. His contract with gws is not of our concern. e.g. collingwood continued to pay grundy even after he left mfc for the swans.

His two way running was never an issue under Goodwins game plan when we had ANB and Gus covering ground so our best midfielder could run where he wanted.

In the 3rd quarter of our premiership Clarrie shut down Bont then kicked the sealer running off him.

That is the epitome of 2 way running at it’s greatest.

Yeah, not really.

The game has changed significantly since 2021. It's still laughable that some still revert back to our premiership year as a reference point for today's game

Now days it's about quick transition and putting speed on the ball, something Olive has lacked over the last couple of years. Back in the 2021 period it was all about contest and defence where guys like Ollie Wines, Clayton Oliver and Tom Mitchell would thrive in contested footy and stoppage.

Now, the big slow contested plodders are a dying breed. Look at where guys like Mitchell, Oliver and Wines are at with their football, they are genuine slow plodders that struggle to cover ground and work both ways in transition. Ollie Greeves learnt a huge reality check when he was picked in the rookie draft because as Cal Twomey said, clubs are worried about his inability to transition quick both ways.

Oliver is and always will struggle as a two-way runner. The number of times i was tearing my hair out watching him plod around and not get back into defence supporting the backs was constant frustration for a number of years.

I think most people could reasonably differentiate the fans and their team mates from management. There were alot of fans that had nothing but love for Clarry, similarly Max and I really think he should have been able to compose himself to at least thank them - surely that's something a half decent player manager would also have a bit of a word to him about. Who knows maybe he'll acknowledge the MFC faithful at some point, but if he doesn't, then I think that would be pretty poor form.

Your logic defies all logic Doc.

So a player who DESERTS the club in pursuit of FAME and FORTUNE deserves a medal, but the other WHO WANTED TO STAY, BUT WAS KICKED OUT doesnt deserve a medal! Unbelievable!
