People who think 7 & 8 in this draft is a fair deal are kidding themselves...

Yep. Most other years it would have been ok, and probably even exciting. Just our luck it's this year.

Any chance that discussion of the Christian Petracca trade could be carried out on the Christian Petracca thread?

Perhaps just me.

They should of been merged.

I love a plot twist, here's hoping there are some (good ones) (for us) today!!

Same with Oliver, but we had Goodwin in self-preservation mode and President who lacked foresight. Not too mention a divided board that didn't help.

Depending on how JT and the club view the talent available in the top 10-15, I wouldn't be surprised if we elect to only use one of these two picks this year and try and trade one on for more access to next years crop.

If people think anyone is going to trade out of next years draft for a pick this year they are also kidding themselves.

The dynamics at GC this year will be very interesting.

Is there room for Humphrey and Trac in the same side?

Will the mercenaries help or hinder what GC have been building?

Jamarra has the potential to blow the place up.

Most importantly, have we done enough to be attractive to Humphrey next year or will Hawks, Collingwood etc trump us?

A perfect storm that pretty much could only happen to us.

A drought-breaking premiership we couldn't see (in person) because of a....once in a lifetime pandemic.

Two generational talents pi**ed away because of a perfect storm of player behaviour/a self-preservation coach/broken and spineless board/gutter rat media who don't give the same scrutiny to other clubs, life-threatening injury and perhaps in the background some family issues.

Loss of guys like Mac due to the AFL hilariously changing the rules, then changing them back.

Norm Smith's curse lives on, flag or not!!

To be fair, Lamb didnt state the head turning deal was to be in our favour... So he might just keep his word of Morri**** is right.

All that was was confirmation that he would like to come but there’s zero chance

Humphrey isn’t happening

GC are resolute. Melbourne have accepted it. Would be awfully embarrassing now for them

Disagree with the embarrassing part for them.

They could easily change the narrative that they are a caring and compassionate club and put their players first, when family situations require assistance.

No one blames a club for allowing a player to return home for true family reasons.

Players and Managers respect that.

This stance to me will scare off potential players and even anger BH team mates and is a culture killer.

I would not be shocked if BH is traded to us and not surprised if he isn’t.

If they do keep him, I hope it is a culture killer for them and scuttles their year.

Not sure if this has been said on here yet but no Bailey, no Trac.

You're right of course. Neither will be playing at Melbourne in 2026.

GC are aware that we've been chasing Humphry since his draft year.

They know our advances are unlikely to stop, so, they're banking on us offering our first rounder and a future first rounder next year.

This nets them Petracca for picks in a perceived weaker draft, and the option to trade in a stronger draft market, with potentially more than just one suitor.

Incorrect. He will go to the Hawks next year if not us this year.

Why can't we get next year's first rounder and this years pick 7 for Tracc?

They probably don't have any decent academy players coming through next year

Also some stricter 'matching' requirements coming in for 2026.

That's what I mean by "potentially more than just one suitor". Other teams will have more time to prepare, and the draft will presumably be better.

So, all of the chips are falling the way of GC.

Not if the Hawks have traded away their F1 for 2026 to get Merritt…

His manager's comments did nothing to suggest that we were BH's club of choice. He made it clear that BH wanted to return home and thought it may be made possible on the back of the Flanders and Ainsworth trades.

We had the currency this year, which is why we are linked. There has been no commitment or determination from BH to come to us, like we've seen with Trac, Merrett and Curnow.

No doubt that other clubs will jump the queue for BH next year.

can we please get an update from @Demon4Life & @Demon Forever if they have mail that there is still life in the Bailey Humphrey rumour?

Don't shoot the messenger. Just got an update but this info was from yesterday.

  1. We are still pushing hard for Humphrey. Expect any deal for picks if we don't get Humphrey (STILL HIGHLY UNLIKELY) to be done in dying minutes of trade period for this reason.

  2. As I said yesterday. GWS is low on cash given they couldn't get Leek Alir off their books. Trade is going to be awful on our end unless we can squeeze higher pick given amount of his contract we are paying for.

Hi Mo.

Bailey has definitely told the dees and GC that he would be open to a trade to the dees. This has fallen on deaf ears and from what I am being told BH has almost given up on the idea now unless there is a significant change of heart from GC. His manager is aware, the dees are aware and GC are aware. His manager has his hands tied due to GC position. Melbourne are now looking at what else they can throw in to make it happen but are also mindful that they dont want next years first pick to be swallowed up in gaining BH. The way I see it, its the only way this gets done now "My opinion".

Craig cameron is number enemy number 1 and he has shot this down in a ball of flames. I dont know what it will require to change his stance, even the suggestion of throwing additional picks is just a guess from the dees at this stage.

Pray my fellow MFC supporters that between now and 7.30pm tonight something drastic happens.

Appreciate all your updates mate. I've been here a while and you've always been someone with good info.

Shame it's looking highly unlikely now. Hopefully we will continue to push for him in the future even if we do face greater competition from the other vic clubs.
