I don't get all the carry on about picks getting pushed out due to father/son or academy selections.
eg picks 7/8 going to 11/12

Academy and father/sons aren't players we or any of the other 16 clubs would have had access to, so what difference does it make?

We still get the 7th and 8th crack at the best of what is available.

While that's true, it still means you're getting the 11th and 12th best rated players. Even if you didn't have access to some of those, you're getting lesser players in theory. Unavoidable with the current drafting rules, but can still understand the frustration. It will be magnified further when Tassie enter the league.

its about understanding the value of the pick relative to other years. In a year with less academy/fs a pick will have more value because you have access to more of the finite higher quality players. Because X of the perceived higher quality players are tied up and inaccessible, the value of the pick drops.

In reality all drafts are different and you can't really judge the value of the pick until years down the line.

No. Lamb said the deal would need to be a head turner and that deal is far from a head turner. Their first next year will prob be 14 or higher. The 7&8 this year get pushed back 4-5 spots in a weak draft.

3 first round picks is overs for mine

we've done more than alright for a 30 year end

Just noting the new deal being touted is an improved offer from GC...adding pick28 in a weak draft for their 2026 1st... (for the MFC always bend over brigade)

Sure thing.

Then stop referring to them as pick 7 and 8

It’s the same logic as saying ‘we don’t get access to the first 6 picks so we should call our pick 7 - pick 1’

It is all about the talent coming through the draft and while I am bullish we can get talent in at ND11 and ND12 - it has to be noted that it is the eleventh and twelfth shot at getting that talent.

Has JT interviewed these GCS academy kids?

Send picks 7, 8 with Tigers for 3, then pick the academy players. Chew up their draft points early. If we end up getting 1 of their stars as a hostage for few years so be itðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ

Typo

If we land 7, 8 and GC’s first next year, throw 8 and our 2026 first rounder at West Coast for pick 2.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
