He ended up with 3 goals, could have easily been 5 or 6, but what I was most impressed about was the way he attacked the footy on a lead. He has strong hands and, unlike Miller, is willing to take the ball out in front rather than on his chest.

3.4 ended up being a bit disappointing, but really, with such a young side, I couldn't be more happy with today.

What a fantastic game for a second gamer!!!!

Didn't he just look like he belonged.

I can't wait until he has a day out!!

if he gets to play alongside neita for a few years watch out, because he'll get the 2nd defender and will rip games apart.

i was not fussed about him before but am now incredibly excited. the kid COULD be a gun

He is a natural FF.

Great replacement for Neita in say 2010.

Thats FF tied up, Bate or Dunn for CHF. Looks ok going forward. Dunn playing mid now but when he develops and fills out a bit he WILL be good.

He was great, especially in the first half.

Missed a few gettable shots, but overall worked hard, kept his feet, marked well and looked like he really felt comfortable at FF.

He is just a natural forward and you can see that he thinks through the play, which is a rare commodity in our forward line.

His goal at the punt road end from about 40 or so was one of the nicest kicking style ive seen, then he shanked the one at the city end with a bent leg :) after i had pumped his kicking style up!

Well done juice!

Gee to all those people that said Newton was not ready, has not got his head together, has to spend the rest of the year at Sandy, will not be ready until next year, goes to show what you know about football, (Jack Shicht), every other club can fast track players but us. Newton will have his bad days but he will become a better player with the remaining games of the season than trying to blood him next year.

My wife summed up his game, when she kept saying " He's got it again". He shows that he has the right ingredients to make a long term career up forward. Our season might be over but Im going to enjoy watching him for the remainder of the year.

that is absolute rubbish. Do you think that we got bate's intro to footy wrong - or dunn's, or jones? Back up your comment with evidence rather than random emotion.

Gee , old school jumps up quick and no, I don't deal with emotion, maybe you should learn what football is about, learning and watching instead of thinking about evidence and stats, but then again you are the defending your point of view...........goes to show you were wrong !!

tim, there were certain posters on this site (who have been very quiet on the topic lately) who claimed that they had the inside information on the club's so called 'long term' plan for the kid, which has just been proven to be absolute codswollop. There were also remarks made about him being 'mentally weak' as well, which is also crap.

Jarka, what those posters said was true. There was/is a long term plan for him. Did to stop to consider Newton may have met all requirements of him? He certainly used to be mentally weak, whether he still is, I don't know. He has improved in this area.

Really impressed with Newton's game yesterday. Presented really well, looked quick off the mark and strong - that mark he almost took in the goalsquare showed a lot of strength.

His shepherd when Godfrey was running into an open goal was fantastic too.

Plus Bate and Robertson as talls & with Davey crumbing - shaping up to be a potent forward line :)

Thanks Brocky - it needed stating. As for you demon3615 what you said is nonsense. i dont mean it to be mean, it is factual - your post contradicts itself...i mean isn't watching acculuating 'evidence'? And how do you know i was referring to stats...

Or are you being really, really ironic?

If you have a need to be right to prove something, go ahead and think that, I myself look at have a different view on how I value players, obviously watching isn't one of your strong points (I don't mean to be mean), it is factual !!!

How do you value players 3165?

Do you go to Sandy often or training?

Share us your secrets.

Why would I share you my secrets, then it would not be a secret would it? Football is not rocket science you know !!!

I really like the idea that 'every other club can fast-track players but us"...based on what evidence exactly? Certainyl not game time or performance. I wounder what demon 3165 thinks of us playing young frawley, given that he has been injured for most of the year and only played one half for Sandy. I'd think that playing him with so little preparation would be 'fast-tracking'...maybe I don't understand what it is?

I do hope he considers sharing his special insights - particularly given the coaches are so wrong...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
