His experience in writing horror books shall be invaluable in continuing the MFC tradition of playing horribly.

Was a neighbour of mine 10 years ago. Very nice fella. Highly rated assistant.

The question is, as a part of his introduction slash hazing, does Kalani get to kick him in the face?

Remember him breaking Jeff White's face in the 2005 elim final.

From the mfc articke:

In a decorated on-field career, King played 240 AFL games across a 15-year stint at both Geelong and St Kilda. He captained the Cats for four seasons, achieving the ultimate success in 2007 as part of the premiership team.

He switched to the Saints ahead of the 2008 season, playing in three campaigns for St Kilda before calling time on his playing days in 2010.

Following his retirement, King quickly shifted to coaching, remaining at the Saints for two seasons before heading to Whitten Oval to join the Western Bulldogs.

He tasted further success across a 10-season stretch at the Dogs, part of the coaching panel to deliver the 2016 premiership win and 2021 Grand Final appearance.

King took a senior assistant coaching role at the Gold Coast SUNS in 2022, where he was also appointed caretaker coach for seven matches at the back end of 2023.

He then returned to the club he called home in Geelong, working with the midfield for the past two seasons.

King will continue in this role for the remainder of Geelong’s AFL Finals campaign, officially joining the red and blue at its conclusion.

The Bucks stops with King.

Would have been happy with Bucks, but I like how we decided to tread a new path. Go well Dees

Can anyone share what he's like dealing with the media? I think Goodwins lack of spark with the media made him, and the club, a perceived easy target. It's obviously not the most important qualification, but a strong media performer can definetly keep the Fugazi noise down.

Let's get Bartel over too.

Operation get Matt Rowell and Ben King when their contract comes up..

Welcome Kingy!

Has King applied and not been successful for any other senior AFL coaching roles?

Very happy we have gone for a new and fresh voice. It is exactly the path taken by many of the recent successful sides / premiers (ourselves included with Goody).

King has loads of experience across a number of clubs, was captain, won a flag, coached successful sides and been involved in the system for many many years. He comes from what I think is the best run club in the AFL in Geelong, both as player and coach.

He definitely fits the profile of what you want in a coach.

Fingers crossed he can be given the grace he deserves by our fans, but no doubt by next week there will be dozens of whingers on here calling him the wrong choice.

And most importantly Buckley will never win a flag.

The media reported that everyone else smashed their interview but the word from the club was this guy went in McRae style and brought a fresh new perspective.

Going to be interesting to find out what happened with Buckley.

Was tipped for the West Coast job before McQualter got it I think.

Waiting for the ‘Sack King’ thread!
