With a name like Flanders and the fact that Melbourne has such a rich history of players who fought for the country in war, it’s a perfect fit.

In Flanders Fields (Poem from WWI)

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
                          In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
                            In Flanders fields.

Well now it’s been jinxed, amazing!

I am a horrible speller

Unfortunately it sounds like we’d be in competition with the Saints and Blues for his services, both of whom have far greater draft capital than us

Unless he nominates us specifically it’s hard to see how we’d get this done

GC don't give a rats about draft capital. They have so many academy players that they don't have a real need for first round picks.

Trading in and out every other sides duds every year, now that is tiresome, futile even.

That’s exactly his role on this Forum. He’s actually quite chirpy atm. Is it Grumpy or just a dry humour? I see it as dry humour and enjoy the posts. You can’t deny that neither Flanders nor Derksen change the dial.

Until that "dud" is a D'Ambrosio or Voss or Martin or whoever and they play well in their new location?

Then what, we revert back to the "MFC is asleep at the wheel" angle?

I think D'Amobosio had an anomaly year last year. Has hardly been the same threat this year hasn't he.

Says the guy who has S. Weiderman and K. Brown in his 'favorite players' list.

Think I’m a no on Flanders unless it’s a future 2nd and that’s about it.

Hardwick doesn’t trust his contested work or defensive running to be a midfielder or that he has the pace to run off half back.

He’s unremarkable on a wing.

We could play him on ball and he’d help us short term but I think we have to plan around a Langford/Lindsay midfield. If Langford’s the fulcrum of our future midfield we need pace around him.

He reminds me of Cerra when he was leaving Freo and we had interest and I kind of think that’s the level he’ll end up. A midfielder who’s not quite reaching the heights you want.

DL be like losing Jordon, Bedford, Harmes was bad list management

DL also be like don't bother trading in mature age depth, it's bad list management

100%

Flanders would be the best recruit we’ve bought to the club since Langdon in 2019 (putting aside the Grundy experiment)

Is he an out and out midfield gun? No

But he’s a quality AFL player who would comfortably be best 22 and can play a variety of positions

I don’t know how we could get a deal done compared to the Saints or Blues, but we should definitely be trying to pry him out

You would imagine the Saints would struggle to afford another player seeking a trade and significantly increased contract.

Tim Lamb special will do, package up some later picks to help them bid on academy players.

I don't think the saints will be able to offer a sizeable deal if Windhager resigns, which looks likely. Carlton also have a top heavy cap, and in my biased opinion, look like a less appealing option compared to us.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
