Wouldn’t be the first time a player has leveraged outside interest to get their current club to offer a better deal. Fair play if that’s what he’s doing

The original story sounded just like the manager trying to prize more out of the saints. The comments from Nick sound better as it sounds like he is trying to talk down his trade value.

But long way to go.

All the fun of the Show when the big top comes to town 😉

The fact that only one media person promoted the story is telling, particularly given that he’s a Saint at heart and only part time in that role. Not that the rest of the media pack are by any means convincing, but the fact that they weren’t biting said that this story was never going to develop any legs.

To Finey - well played. When I saw the vision of him making the announcement on SEN that that as "we sit here tonight ... I can tell you that Marcus Windhager is bound for the Melbourne football club", I couldn’t help but think it was a brilliant impersonation of Caroline Wilson and a performance that was the highlight of this year’s trade and draft period so far.

It was reminiscent of former Demonland poster Chilliboy who used to bring us the most amazing trade rumours based on “good authority” that never eventuated.

Players managers and the game of player movement chess. Suggest the threat of leaving has pushed the Saints to up the offer by $100,000 per year and to add an extra year to the contract term. I’m thinking he stays at the Saints but stranger things happen all the time in the AFL, especially during trade period.

I love football (soccer) transfer news, cos its full of agent fake leaks to try get other teams to do something. Suspect we may well be a pawn here - BUT also interesting juggling act at Saints with some of these deals.

This is as expected. Media whips us frenzy that a player may leave their club. Usually pumped up by the player manager. Then the club adds $$$ and an extra year. QED.

TOM MORRIS 💩💩Rest easy Saints fans, expect Windhager to stay now. It could even be formalised this week. He had crucial chats with Ross Lyon before he left on a holiday for New Zealand.

Watch St Kilda jump up the ladder next year with their aggressive recruitment.

Or flop badly because some players feel dudded and not as highly rewarded as others.

Saints have tried to buy their way to success a few times. They may jump next year but I'm not convinced they'll be a serious threat just yet.

Me neither. But they HAD to go big. Their list is a shambles.

@Whispering_Jack your mate's quite crafty eh 😏 😉

Wonder if that helps us get Flanders.

More money for Windhager, Wilkie and maybe a couple of others and the new guys coming in, plus NAS new contract, could have them withdrawing their interest in Flanders, leaving us and Carlton as the main suitors.

Saints bottom 6 are still awful. They won't seriously climb until that is fixed.

This story had to have been a set up either by the management or power brokers at the club.

With all their eggs now in a couple of baskets good luck trying to keep any players next year Saints.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
