NON-MFC: Finals Week 02

That’s what I was thinking. It defies logic how they have turned things around. They look so fit and strong too. Right balance of brains and braun

We are shocked by it because we never saw such a sudden shift in momentum under Goodwin's tenure. It was either all going right or all going wrong. We always needed a pre-season to reboot. Collingwood in 2022 and then 2023 (they lost to West Coast early in 2022 and looked destined for bottom 4 before eventually making a Prelim - it turned overnight for them). Lions in 2024 after starting 0-3 and being like 3-9 at one point. Hawthorn as well after being 0-5. We looked destined for a similar run this year when we were 5-6 and had just smashed Sydney. Instead we went 2-10 to end the year and rightfully sacked the coach. While Hawthorn's shift has been sudden, it is not really surprising when you really consider the pedigree and football experience of Mitchell. He just oozes success.

That killer instinct is so important. It gets you over the line in close games, and gets you belting anyone that even remotely buckles under pressure. As we saw tonight. I would fully expect Hawthorn to win next week.

I hope Rankine’s watching this. I hope the message is not lost on him. He’s not only homophobic, he’s stupid and he’s selfish. His teammates didn’t deserve this.

He has served his penalty. Lay off him.

Don’t think i’ve ever seen two worse finals from a top 4 team

didn’t even have a Quarter where they looked like it

You can't win finals without a midfield.

At least Geelong will have a challenge with the Hawks

One of those fkkers has to lose

Thanks all the same for your advice but yeah, not laying off him anytime soon.

This surely has to go down as the worst finals campaign in modern history. Total dumpster fire.

Port 2023 probably comes close but that's about it.

Fogarty played some of the worst finals I've seen for a forward (including Curnow).

That was bad but I think the general consensus was that they weren't going to trouble Collingwood or Brisbane. From memory they were sorta flat track bullies anyway.

Adelaide though... Before the Rankine case I was almost certain they'd make a preliminary final at minimum.

-31 CPs, -6 clearances, -21 inside 50s.

Their backline kept them afloat all year but when they heat went up Dawson was left to battle on his own.

For a side that opened the season scoring at will, they scored 67, 55 and 59 in their last 3 games against finals sides.

So the crows didn't win a quarter in both finals

Makes our 2023 finals series a work of art compared to what Adelaide dished up this finals campaign.

Ugh. A Geelong v Hawthorn prelim is a nightmare.

Also, Adelaide, wow. They’re on track to lose all 8 quarters of finals after finishing on top.

The good news is that one of them have to loose.

Also one of Hawks or Cats in the grand final.

Sad Jim Carrey GIF

First time in about 28 years I’ll be barracking for Geelong in a game of Australia Rules Football (v Hawks next week)

Poor ANB with 6 straight final losses

Apparently the record is 8. He's not far off breaking it...

There a real problem in SA. Both Port and Crom [censored] the bed in September at home. Amazing really.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
