I disagree. He has never had a run in midfield in ones. He has attributes Sparrow hasnt. He deserves a go next season.

Think I agree with this. Though Sparrow has attributes he hasn't. But I agree. He has a lot of skill. One more year...

So what do we make of this for the future? We had the bye so it was probably expected we'd win comfortably .... which we outdid.

Some twerp on Facebook claimed only two of the Melbourne-listed players are AFL standard. But they're way off, yes? Plus there'd be a few from today they'll persist with for another year (as well as drafting Yze) So what's the realistic assessment?

An elim final win means nothing for the long term future of the seniors. But it gives them another chance to keep testing themselves in high pressure games. Guys who play well in the big VFL finals often translate to afl footy.

Kolt - is finding composure and cutting down fumbles, still work to do but looks a cut above the rest of the mids.

Laurie, Woey, K Brown - not showing me more than good VFL players (or very good for Laurie)

Adams, Howes, Culley - have potential but have flaws, in 12 months they’re either afl players or depth.

Kentfield, Mentha, (perhaps Yze) - promising kids

Campbell, AJ - depth talls

Billings, Fullarton - playing out their deals

Spargo - depth flanker

Sestan - most interesting guy out there, he’s been out forever and comes back and immediately looks a class above with his skills, just not sure how it translates to afl footy.

Hopefully the new coach will give him that chance

Not sure he is miles too good for VFL, his footy IQ probably is but he needs to find the ball more same as the AFL.

why not just tap it through

Dumb

Pretty sure it’s a free kick if the ruckman taps it through directly.

Unless the AFL have changed the rule recently, a Ruckman can’t tap the ball over the line on the full from a ball up.

Because that was 1 metre out he didn’t have the option of thumping if through.

I would have liked to see him play when Viney was injured during the year. Also certainly could have been sub a few hundred times ahead of Sharp.

I totally agree with you Jaded that in a 7 win season the Club didn’t take the opportunity to get games into Bailey Laurie at the expense of Sparrow or Sharp at the very least.

In my view, in a 7 win season, selection was so predictable and boring

I was under the impression that the attacking ruck was allowed to do so and score a point? But that doesn't makes sense. (That's why I think it may be true @AFLrules).

Surely not Petracca? The guy some genuises claim has no engagement at all with his team mates? The guy that doesn't give a damn? What's he doing there?

When you ask Google ai

Yes, you can nominate for a father-son spot a second time if you don't get picked up, but you will need to renominate for the current year's draft because AFL Draft nominations are valid for only one year. If you are not selected by the club in the first year you nominate, you have the option to re-enter the draft process in the following year by renominating.

Don’t know that.

It’s good news if we want him and he wants us.

It has been a great read today so many good moments during the game managed to tape it on 7Mate HD, might rewatch the 3rd quarter after dinner. But jeez they are looking very much like a formidable team, so sorry for Charles he looked in so much pain as he came off. Casey have a great forward line midfield and backline.😁👍

Ghosty looked happy btw

It could have been me - short guy with glasses and a demon beany?

We stood shoulder to shoulder next to the players interchange area.Boy, can she talk! (Unlike me!)

Ghosty spent 4 hours on public transport to get to the game.

Is that the definition of Loyal Supporter?

I didn’t see him but was told he was spotted there. No Claz though.

Some of the firsts came into the rooms after the match. Max was there congratulating the boys and he had George and Louis with him.

Commentators mentioned Gawn Tmac and Viney went to the rooms to check on Spargo. So they’re also there obviously.

It’s nice to see the seniors cheering Casey on.

Is Clarry there?

No Clarrie

Our incoming CEO and president were there.

Had a quick chat with Steve Smith.

Is viewing the VFL finals on the AFL app restricted to viewers in Victoria? All home and away games were viewable for me in NSW, but when I tried viewing today’s game I kept getting a message saying I can’t view from outside of Australia (maybe they have a shortage of error messages?).

I could still view it on the 7+ app on my TV, but the streaming picture quality was atrocious!!

I got it fine in the snow clad Snowy Mountains hardtack.

Strange… it must be an issue with the AFL app on my phone; the setting have my location as NSW, so I’m not sure why it thinks I’m out of the country 😁

Great win :

Starting with the backline. Adams played his best game for the club, could be something when May and Lever retire. Sestan was great too bad he's been injury prone so the problem I see with him is we could want some rookie picks for the rookie draft. Yze, Cross, Hardie and Bonner all worthy of rookie picks. Howes was excellent.

The midfield well Laurie was sensational. Just needs a chance to cement a spot and he could be very valuable for us. Tholstrup was great he's taken his new position like a duck to water in the middle. I like him there. Culley continuing on his good form at AFL level. Campbell's been a great recruit even though he hasn't played a game, continues to be a champion at VFL level. If we pick up Heath it's hard to see him get another go but he has been a worthy pick up. Woewodin was good but like Sestan they may want picks in the national draft.

The forward line. Yze was sensational hopefully we can recruit him as a rookie pick absolutely worth it on that performance. Cross is a smokey to get picked in the rookie draft but he knows were the goals are and is a terrific mark for his size. Kentfield and Johnson haven't done enough yet but they can take a mark so that puts them ahead of van Rooyen and Jefferson. I think Kentfield could have a break out game any minute now.

Fullerton?

Watching Cream on the telly he looks very good at CHB and had 10 hit outs as well, he Howes and Adams were all vg.

He seems a nice person. But then so do most folks when you first meet them.

He was standing with Paul Guerra but I didn’t know who he was. I said to Paul “Now Paul, you know what you have to say, don’t you.” And Paul said, “Yes Ghosty… Essendon is dead to me.” 😂 Steve laughed at this and I said, “This is NOT a laughing matter! I’m trying to exorcise the Essendonness outta him!” Then Paul tells me who he is. 🤭

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
