Back-to-back resounding victories is something to get excited about, made even more exciting by the fact that theyโ€™re the first two rounds of the season, a season of only 12 rounds.

The importance of a strong start to any season is huge and weโ€™ve nailed it.

Letโ€™s keep it up, Dees!!!

I only managed to see the last quarter (them snags ainโ€™t cooking & serving themselves now, are they) but if what I did get to see is anything to go by, Ima thoroughly enjoy watching the replay.

Sincere thanks to the Demonlanders who sampled our fare today, your support is much appreciated.

In : Lampard

Out: Purcell ( hopefully it's a minor knee injury)

B: Ebert, Taylor

HB: Chaplin, Lampard, Goldrick

C: McNamara, Hore, Paxman

HF: Fitzsimmon, Harris, Bannan

F: Gall, Zanker

FOLL: Pearce, Hanks, Heath

IC: Campbell, Mackin, Johnson, O'Hehir, Mahoney

devo'd about Purcell, but if she is out for a while maybe it gives someone different a chance to run through the midfield and help out Hanksy Hore Heath and Paxy

A big event today. I watched 4 quarters of women's footy. Dees were too good in a game with decent skills that kept the score board ticking over. The the last half of the hawks and blues game. 5 goals between the two teams. My Granddaughter who is staying over tonight kept asking me why are you still watching Pa? This game is poor. Finally we watched some female basketball from earlier this year. You all know I am not big fan but I decided to watch today and give it a chance. Dee's game I enjoyed, how much because I am invested? Good question. I am not sure but it was definitely a better game than the Hawks/ blues game. If that is the std that those 2 teams produce each week then they don't deserve to be on national TV. 10 games to go, if the Dees keep this up I might be very interested by Cup day.

Welcome on board OD.

The girls are a great watch. Yeah its a different game to the boys - but enjoy it for what is. Our girls play a style that is great to watch, generally a high scoring, fast game.

Watch when you can its great ๐Ÿ‘

A lovely day at Casey Fields. Didnโ€™t go home richer in $$$, but richer in Demon delight*. Was the helicopter stunt a success? Will the response (mediocre at best?) see any shift in strategy around playing there? Probably that's a discussion for another time.

Anyway, the game itself. Loved our intent to start the game. The Saints would have been riding high after last week, so that tackle pressure right from the start and two early goals was important. And we were pretty much in control from there.

Shout outs:

Saraid, best game yet! We're doing something right in how we develop players

Tayla, one of a kind

Hanks 12 tackles

Zanker 7 i50s (and yep, we're going to need some midfield options)

Pearce and Heath with 12 contested possessions each

Combo of Pearce and Campbell working well

Hore 14 score involvements

Goldieโ€™s โ€œsupermanโ€ spoil

Fitzy always gets the hard stuff done and starting to hit the scoreboard

Oโ€™Hehir - all the signs are thereย

It took Johnsonโ€™s goal (and a nice one it was) for me to realise sheโ€™d replaced Lampard as a late change. Anyone know what happened there?ย

The fact that we made fewer interchanges (47/60 to 53/60) despite being a player down for over a half is also telling. Good to see Mick throwing around the magnets in the last; crucial early in a short season to work on Plan B and C and D and so on before it's forced through injury or opposition.

ย

* The huge asterisk on any enjoyment of course is the injury to Purcellโ€ฆ I canโ€™t even. Just have everything crossed for some kind of miracle. Sheโ€™s a gun and though weโ€™re better positioned than last year (barring another injury plague), we simply canโ€™t replace her.

There's two very different styles.

The North style is bruising to say the least.

Will our style win through.. daytime games in good weather... it could be us

A very enjoyable watch today apart from Purcell. Fingers crossed.

Our skills were night and day above st kildas. Very refreshing.

Watched the game late last night.

It didn't seem like we completely dominated the match but somehow we just kept punching more goals through all arvo.

So good to see a Dees team make the most of every forward entry.

I also watched their body language closely after goals and stoppages, there's a real connection and dare I say it love for each other in that team.

This is an incredible start to the season considering the personnel we have out of the team.

Fingers crossed for Liv. She's been through the wringer.

I love watching this team

Enjoyed watching the game on catchup. Second quarter burst was A grade footy. One grab footy.

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™Harris 4 goals is back to her best.

๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธKate Hore. Such a complete player. So smart too. Great captain. Sign her up for life

๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธMaeve Chaplin. What a strong reliable defender. Continued on from 2024

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™the team. Love the energy and feeling.

๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”Liv. Sheโ€™s a star. Injuries seem to be cursing her career. Otherwise sheโ€™s one of the very best in the league. With Eliza West moved on after 2023, weeks need Livโ€™s contest inside. ๐Ÿคžfor her but it looked bad ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Great win ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ (we needed therapy after Friday night)

A little worried about Chaplin. Noticed she pulled up right at the very end of the game and was hobbling and looking concerned after the siren. Hopefully nothing, perhaps just a touch of cramp. ๐Ÿคž

Also do we have any news on how bad Lampard's calf is?

As for Liv, I recall early in our premiership season Banno went down as if shot in the same half of the ground with a knee injury and was carted off, and I'd resigned myself to not seeing her out there for a year. She played the next week. There is always hope!

I was there at the ground early and saw the warm up. Sarah Lampard strained her calf in the warm up. All the emergencies were still playing in their scrimmage match and Lily Johnson came on the ground at half time. I thought you would have at least one non playing emergency there ready to go. I'm not sure if Lampard will be ready next week.

Purcell confirmed ACL. Club will announce tomorrow. Canโ€™t take a trick.

Lampard a 2-3 week calf and Mackin a knee as well (less serious).

Bloody hell, poor bugger.

If we make a granny with the injuries we've had, it will be an incredible achievement. Especially in such a short season.

Another positive. Weโ€™re not leaving any percentage behind. 2 weeks running weโ€™ve filled our boots.

Meggs recognises @BDA for the inspiration for this weeks match report title ๐Ÿ˜ thank you !

And (if true) what a bummer for Liv. Another ACL. She had worked so hard and was playing career-best footy.

It's not fair.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
