True for that contest, but has little or no impact on rest of game.

He's our highest paid players, running around blaming everyone else.

Get over yourself trac.

He was closer to our best than the comments on here allow for.

There is clearly a level of emotional dislike for Trac after what happened last year. It's the opposite of red and blue glasses with him. People see what they want to see. Like the poster having a go at him for not redeeming that kick from May.

Petracca, Melbourne’s best tonight.

Tracc is far from his don't argue bullocking and like many his disposal in 2025 has been pretty ordinary.

Guys one other reason to smile, another reminder tonight how much of a spud Houston is and how much of a star Langford is!!

I think he was actually pretty good tonight.

He was just OK Dazzle but hence the reason I reckon we let Chocco go. His skills are shocking along with most of the players. JVR should have taken at least 5 pack marks when in front but just dropped the ball. Even his snap goal early he should have marked it. We need a skills/development coach ASAP so JVR and the others like Rivers, Sparrow, Howes etc. can work on their skills at the start of preseason and be ready big time for 26.

Very disappointing season with the close losses which I put down purely to our lack of skill with ball in hand.

Nah didn't hear anything like that. All I heard was the stupid Collingwood chant

He got near it a lot so impacted more than he has. Think he will make it.

The hate for Salem is elite!

481 metres gained (5th most). 27 touches. 96 percent de%.

Last week it was 400 metres (7th most), 30 touches at 80 %.

Cant really lament our skills and turnovers and then want Salem gone. They might replace him with Sharp!

The fact is we lose yet another game with more inside 50s. Less marks inside 50s.

Not why we lost, but Jvr and Petty combined output was again below par. They dont work. Copy paste. Even though we've had 2 years of them producing below afl forward quality, we will try yet again in 2026. We will go nowhere until we try something different. They simply dont know how to find space, how many games do you need to see???

27 touches this week for 5 score involvements.

30 touches last week for 3 score involvements.

He's been better the last month, but the bar was too low.

We need more from Salem than what we're getting, and he is part of the leadership problem.

A bitterly disappointing end to a bitterly disappointing season...

Those 5 losses at the start of the season really put us behind the 8 ball.

We definitely had our chances to win. But just seem to [censored] ourselves in the close ones. Absolutely no composure.

Our deplorable kicking into the forward line showed how poor our skills and execution of those skills are. Forward line "connection" still remains our greatest failure.

We still desperately need more excellent kicks and good decision makers! Hawthorn provide the blueprint there.

Steven May and Christian Petracca looked cooked sadly. Both looked like shadows of their former selves.

Shame Steven May didn't look at trying to line up Brayden "The Thug" Maynard. Would of been good to get some revenge, but sadly it wasn't to be. We are still as soft as butter when it comes to trying to get pay back.

Max Gawn tried his guts out. I think it's an 8th All Australian blazer and another Best & Fairest for our beloved Captain.

We have certainly lowered our colours since 2021. To say we are weak mentally is an understatement.

Nevertheless, still plenty of young talent there to work with, Langford, Culley, Bowen, Turner, Lindsay (when he returns from injury), as well as Rivers, Kozzie, Chandler etc.

Unfortunately Harry Sharp just isn't up to standard I'm afraid.

I definitely still think we need an experienced coach. Whether or not it is Nathan Buckley as the new Demons coach we shall wait and see I guess?

The new Melbourne CEO Paul Guerra has a lot of work to do!

I am sick of losing to these [censored] pieces of [censored]. I thought I didn't care at this point with the season gone, but losing this after being in a winning position has infuriated me. I genuinely hate them.

I’m 3 sigmas of SD in my utter hatred

I’m with you

I know there is no point whingeing about this but what about the 50m penalty to Viney that was dead set 30m at most and the body slam by Cameron on Sharp in our forward pocket in the last 10 mintues?

Only got ourselves to blame in the end. Lost 6 games by under 9 points. Good riddance 2025

What was wrong with the "body slam"?

I’ve been Trac’s biggest critic and thought tonight was one of, or if not his best game for the season

Why ? What's wrong with them?

Rough conduct?

Most metres gained. His effort in q4 was extraordinary. Wrestling the ball out of the centre. Started the chain of handballs leading to our only goal ( which he kicked)

Do me a favour, watch the last quarter again, concentrating on Tracc and Sparrow. Perhaps Sparrow has lost confidence but his q4 was appalling

Was tonight everyone’s first time watching Melbourne this year? I’m stunned by the shock and anger at this result. Disappointment I get, but surely our inability to win when we’re in a position to this year was known and expected?

I was worried we might fizzle out and get spanked, or half-[censored] it to a timid 30 point loss. I’m just relieved.

Plenty to work with for the new coach. Adios season 2025.

It's because those people seem to think "change the coach and it will all get better".

I mean he's a back half player and an average of 4 score involvements per game would put him in the top 30 defenders of the year. I cant measure the leadership aspect but to have him traded would leave a massive hole in our composure coming out of d50.

22 minutes ago, Farmer said:

I’m struggling to understand the vitriol towards Petracca . Watch the last quarter again, he was by far our best player. The idea that he could have saved the faulty May kick is ludicrous. Watch it again , it was 5m short of where intended

Agree. The anti Petraca knuckleheads are beyond tiresome.

While people might not get the anger, I dont get the instant relief.

We had a real chance to fix up this mob and simply stopped running. This wasn't like any other fall away loss for me, this could have easily been like the Brisbane game again.

We failed to capitalise and reverted to long hack shots that did nothing for the scoreboard. I'm far less bullish than some about our chances in 26. Even wooden spoon teams occasionally put up performances like these. The age old "If we play footy like that every week you'll see more wins" jargon doesn't wash for one tenth of a second. This team has talent but there are literally holes on every line now. Cant clunk a forward 50 mark, struggle to kick into 50 and our full back would rather be at the beach.

We are a long way off finals, we are not good enough. We've forgotten how to win, whatever that means.

New coach has serious work cut out for him. If the football department isn't changing much then I'm not expecting much.

Moral Filth.

Btw, I read on the Deebrief that they were mocking Angus?

Did anyone who went to the game today noticed that?

Scum will do things like that

The Suns losing makes tonight so much worse. Collingwood have stumbled into the top 4 due to our inability to run out games.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
