Insane Carlton paid him 800k a year to get him across from the Crows. He's one of the most overpaid players in history. He's 32 years of age, injury prone, and we have decent defensive depth. There's better options if needed.

Sorry I meant

No Way Reaction GIF

He is 30, turns 31 in October.

If Steve May's performance last Saturday was indicative of his projected 2026 footballing, then I'd replace him with McGovern in a heart beat. An absolute heart beat.

This season has obviously done your head in.

Are you really thinking the Carlton McGovern or his brother?

May did struggle last week but on this season alone (a very average one for May, who is coming to an end) he is still streets ahead of McGovern.

1) yeah the last 2 seasons have absolutely done my head in, in terms of the onfield product we dish up, and the sooner I can accept we’re a genuine bottom 4 team the better. The core premiership players do not appear to be taking this club any further, and it’s the younger brigade plus the hope (rather than expectation) of some savy and aggressive trading are the way forward.

2) yes I was thinking of Mitch not Jeremy. The former was playing decent footy as a defender for a while but I’m in agreement that he’s probably coming to an end.

3) my post was more of a reflection of May than McGovern. I think it would be best for all parties if May was traded or calls time a year early if that’s the quality of footy he’ll be producing next year.

I love all the NO memes, if that is what they are, but lets see, he is an upgrade on Billings, Fullarton, AJ, Campbell, and many others running around in the 2's.

He is sure no more than a depth upgrade and wouldn't get a game in front of May, Lever and Turner, or probably even TMac, but if every other club is shaking their heads like all your memes then he might be money-ball. He averages 1 good game in 5 and is perennially injured so he would have to come cheap. That is where another club might offer slightly overs coz they need tall backs, maybe even Dogs, but if he's falling cheap then I think as I say he is an upgrade in depth.

He may get a game in front of May but it’s still a no

no one better mention zaine cordy next i swear to god

The way May moves, the quicker transition, his attitude at times…..if it’s not the end he’s going to need one hell of a preseason.

Steven mays worst AFL season is still Comfortably better than anything Mitch McGovern has ever produced. If we were going to recruit him, the only potential would be as a short term sugar hit up forward and I wouldn’t even do that

It was reported that McG wasn't selected to play this week so he hasn't hit the target for a contract extension. The context of the report was that it was deliberate on Carlton's part.

Now, Carlton hold all the cards as to whether they offer a contract or at what $. Unlikely, to be anything like the figure mentioned above.

That’s another discussion but McGovern isn’t the answer. Agree with ‘Ted’ above, May’s still streets ahead.

Anyone else remember him taking the biggest dive after melksham marked in the goal square to try and get a cheap reversal. Luckily the ump didnt fall for it and it set up the kozzy winner.

As they say on Shark Tank, "for that reason, im out."

Your man May is a deadset liability. He’s not streets ahead of anyone on an AFL list

Probably in the bottom 20 percent of footy IQs running around. Would love to see him run around with Royal Parade Cheaters again actually.

I don't normally like to be overly harsh to Football players regardless of what team they play for......However.......Mitch Mcgovern is genuinely rubbish.

He goes to water under any level of pressure and is hopeless 1 on 1. Carltons Key backs (Weitering aside) are horrid and he still isn't getting games.

He is also 31 in a month or 2.. I dare say if his surname wasn't Mcgovern he would have been out of the AFL years ago.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
