Lever the perfect one to move on - he was already slow and now his ankle is cooked and he's a defensive liability - Turner the intercept defender we need....

well then, i wonder what's lever worth to north?

Duusma???

we have to start turning over the list. if Lever is one to make way so be it.

perhaps we can weedle a pick in the 20's out of North. high teens would be robbery

not sure about duursma. he hasn't acquitted himself well at all at North. A very bad sign in a young player

He's got the class and at least we would know about his mindset from the time he spent here in preseason and with Casey.

There is no doubt about his talent.

Not sure about a pick in the 20's in a shallow/average draft..

Could just be picking up a pooch from the lost dogs home next door. I guess the headline would then be Lever Spotted At The Kennel.

Duursma is one of the classiest young players you'd ever see.

Is he soft ? That's the question.

But with his talent you'd take the punt every day of the week. Back yourself to shift his mindset, assuming it's required.

My issue is that North aren’t giving him up for Lever, what else do we need to give up? Does Lever and Spargs get it done? I’m not sure

Why are people convinced lever has no value? Yes he has had a horrid year but when fit he is AA level defender. Jake is also contracted and there is no point letting him go if we don't get something valuable in return.

Here is the deal for Barras last year:

"Hawthorn has sent its future first, second and third-round picks to West Coast, in return for Barrass and West Coast's future fourth-round pick"

Barras has never been AA and is a year older than lever. I'm not saying lever is worth the same, but if north want him make them pay up.

From the media the biggest rumors are Lever and May. Given the young fellas that stood up in their absence (Plus Tmac) makes their departure not as massive hole as in the pass.

Until we get a new coach, and their have their plan on what type of players we need not much is going to happen, unless some players want a change.

In the meantime the rumors keep us engaged with discussion. :)

For the right price I think this could be a win win.

I just can’t see his body holding up, and Disco has shown enough to suggest he will be a great third intercept defender.

How do you know that?

It depends how badly they want a player and defence is a huge issue for them.

Maybe we would say we're not just giving up Lever for Duursma.

I've only thrown that name out there by the way and who knows what the position really is with Lever.

I mean there are some good pubs and cafe's around Arden street and the hun have put 2 & 2 together to equal 5...

Chris Cavanagh: 26 August 2025 'Who your club could target'

MELBOURNE

Current Picks: 23, 52, 59

There’s a bit to play out at Melbourne, which is preparing to name a new coach ahead of what could be an interesting trade period.

The Demons traded their first-round pick to Essendon as part of the deal which secured them Xavier Linsday at pick 11 last year.

That means that unless they secure a first-round pick through the trade period, they won’t enter the draft until the second round.

Kalani White has nominated Melbourne despite being part of the Gold Coast Suns Academy.

Who will still be available when that pick rolls around remains to be seen, but Melbourne could do with some key position talent at either end of the ground.

Father-son prospect Kalani White – who is also a Gold Coast Suns Academy member – has nominated the Demons as his preferred club ahead of the draft and will help in that area.

The 198cm tall – who can play at either end of the ground – is the son of 236-game ruckman Jeff and is likely to be a late draft pick.

The Demons also have access to Dandenong Stingrays defender Toby Sinnema through their NGA program.

Sinnema racked up 15 disposals and a goal in a recent VFL debut for Casey.

What about Latrelle Pickett as our 3rd or rookie pick. It'd make Kossie happy.

Exactly. Not to mention that North are desperate for Key Defenders.

I know I shouldn't really be comparing trades, but if they gave up pick 25 for Daniel, an unaccountable small half back flanker, then they should be paying premium for a contracted key intercept defender.

A position that's more important and harder to find quality. That's not even mentioning Levers leadership qualities which the roos are severely lacking (as are we?)

I'd be pushing for a future first or duursma subject to due diligence.

Lever is contracted. KPD's are very valuable on the trade market. North are desperate for a senior KPD.

North's list management is horrendous. They traded their F1st (pick 3 this year) for pick 27 in last years draft. Pick 25 for Daniel. 5 year deal for Griffen Logue?? Seriously.

Surely we can extract one of their young mids, a Duursma or a very favourable pick swap such as their '26 f1st.

We have Turner, Petty, Adams and TMac for next year. May if he stays. Jake is surplus to needs at this point.

A great leader and voice down back. If the game was slower, he'd be an asset next to Turner, but the style of modern play exposes his weaknesses.

I'd be fine keeping him for his leadership, otherwise it could definitely be a win win depending on what comes back our way.

Jordan Ridley wants out of the peptides - has requested a trade to the bears

So that’s Allen and Draper as free agents, Ridley wants to go there, and they’ve got 3 academy picks ranked inside the top 20?

Handy for some

Lever and/or May going, Tracc staying or leaving and Gus retired...

Interestingly All of the future captain candidates mentioned over the years

Goes to show how massive a person and leader Gawny is and has been. Respect to Jack Viney too who's been there with him and Jonesy through the entire ride

Gawn really is the bridge connecting the past generation to our next. I can see our next captain being one of our young guns in 2027/28

Go Dees!

Langford has future captain written all over him

And Lindsay had noted leadership qualities in his draft year

Reckon we’re well stocked if Gawn can hold on for a couple more seasons

The sports media cycle:

  • Football writer writes an opinion piece that club could benefit from trading player x.

  • One journalist cites this article as "rumours that player x is on the table."

  • TV panellist cites previous two articles as their inside mail that player x and club are unhappy and want to part ways.

  • Half a dozen articles appear citing TV panellist that player x wants out.

  • TV panellist doubles down, citing growing consensus among sports media as evidence. When asked where the rumour originated, they drop out "where there's smoke, there's a fire" line as proof.

  • Thus proven, the entirety of the sports media landscape begin reporting the exit of player x as fact.

From here you have two outcomes.

  1. The media create enough noise to actually cause an issue at the club and cause the player to leave.

  2. The club and player x ignore the noise and go about their business, which will be portrayed as the club being poor negotiators and failing to get a deal done.

3 Media maggot gets to cover all games personally from Manangatang Thirds in 2026.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
