We have an interim president and CEO - to think we have someone ‘already on the hook’ is as laughable as it is dangerous.

Who would agree to come unless to future President and CEO were the ones to be there to run the process and own the decision?

We are nowhere and that’s ok, if we can soon get somewhere, but some of you look like sheep walking on their hind legs thinking we have someone lined up…

Funnily chook I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if the two absent employees had any say in this decision.

Of course they did, but the media won't say that, as it doesn't make for as good a story. Absolutely no way either of them didn't have a big say in this.

i do not understand the obsession with Buckley at all.

Swap one coach who presided over a steady decline with another.

Please God no, not that FIGJAM. how many years has he been out of the game pontificating in the AFL media

Creepy bloke . All the assistants and PA's will have to have a large set of Bazookas. I hope thats cryptic enough

I know a few here don’t like Hinkley, but I like the character. To me it wouldn’t be the worst idea.

I don’t know where that leaves Clarko though 😂

Cam Bruce with Brad Green coming home.....

Its Old School values, but Passion for the Club trumps Footy as a Business, and anyway, he's well credentialled!!

Stick with Red and Blue!!!

Haven't we had enough of the boys club?

Throw every last cent at him to come here in some role to fix our low player expectation culture.

Look how filthy he was with the missed kicks by Papenhuyzen last week. There's no excuses, no buts. He expects effort and competence. Two things that we don't expect enough of.

Is that a chinese herb?

I'd love Bruce back at the club, even as an assistant

Not just because of the Melbourne connection, but he's genuinely built a very impressive coaching CV. He was a senior assistant at Hawthorn during their three-peat and has been Brisbane's midfield coach for the last 4-5 seasons.

Bruce would be high on my list, but I wouldn't really know as I'm not in the industry.

They've managed to sack the coach, so having an interim everything hasn't been a barrier to a pretty bloody big decision.

You'd have to say Smith is clearly pulling the strings and thus will pull the next one with the incoming coach.

What a solid idea, sack a premiership winning coach, and replace him with a coach that has failed time and time and time again to win one with some pretty good teams.

Hinkley is not welcomed unless he brings Butters with him.

Aware there's far more credentialed posters on here who may have some idea, but last week I was hearing that if Goodwin left, Hinkley could be the man for the job. Alternately, if we didn't go down the Hinkley path we may look to go with an unproven appointment (read: no senior coaching credentials). Would likely require more validation on this.

Sold, on the Butters idea.

Nathan Buckley - bizarre

Hinkley - perhaps head of the FD but no

I'm nowhere near as adverse to NB as some. In fact, I'd have him at the top of my list (potentially with Horse) in terms of coaches with previous experience. I think he has an extremely good grasp of the modern game, and was unlucky in 2018 not to come away with the W.

Longmire was a full forward and may be able to teach our young forwards some things current coaches can’t. He knows how to build a culture. The club wants change and he is a very different personality to Goodwin. I suspect he will be given the reigns. I do not envy who comes in because there will be disharmony for a while as the pro-Goodwin players tangle with the anti-Goodwin players. I just hope Max stays because I could not handle seeing him in other colours. I can handle anyone else.

Collingwood's admin were in disarray when they appointed MacCrae.

It doesn't really matter. Guerra and Smith were obviously party to the decision.

Not warming to the experienced/possibly need convincing names that are coming up here.

Need a fresh start with someone on the up as an assistant and in the know for where the game is at currently. I like the suggestion of someone like Montgomery.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
