On another note, seems we still have leaks in the club. The first thing PJ stamped out was the leaking to the media and it has been creeping back in over the last couple of years. The fact that scumbag Tom Morris broke this before the club had the opportunity to tell the players is a disgrace, the Board still has issues that sacking a coach won't resolve.

It would be if it is true, but we really don't know, do we. And what if you are right and they hadn't been told, but the person who leaked it to Morris was someone like a relative/friend of Goodwin? How would the experienced Board members here have avoided that? Tell the players before you tell Goodwin? Nothing easy here I'm afraid.

So club statement says they will now commence their search......

Has there been a statement?

Farewell Simon , you delivered us the holy grail, and we had some rotten luck after that, losing finals by small margins and top players leaving as well as injuries

However the last two seasons were unacceptable and change needed to happen

Something is amiss in this! why not a single word from the club?

Green's email just arrived.

Goodwin goes immediately.

Sadly no mention of a press conf, some sort of farewell or gesture of goodwill.

Female intuition suggests the divorce hasn't gone well.

Yeah because another 10000 lost members added to the 15000 members already gone would be really good for the club

Soon it will be just you holdingup the fort

Great job well done

happy to help. I support the club not barrack. I know where you stand jnr

I feel a bit for Max. Obviously he & Goodwin had a tight relationship & gawn was there during those horrible years where coach after coach was sacked & now he's going through it again

The passage of time will tell us whether it needed to be done now, or could have waited 3 weeks.

But for those who want the club to be #ruthless, you’ve got your wish.

If this destabilises the club, well, you made your bed.

I hope this isn’t Green making a #bigcall just to justify that he isn’t an interim president. I hope this has been well thought through.

Pretty certain there are no bed-makers here when it comes to the club’s decisions.

I could whip up a memo in 5 minutes.

FFS this is so unacceptable.

Why can't this club just get itself sorted.

If you decided the coach is getting sacked, you prepare a media release that moment so it's ready to send.

Brad Green should have had a draft email ready to go already.

How can you disrespect not just a premiership coach, but the players and members like this? Don't we deserve to find out about such important news not from goddamn Tom Morris?

I swear make Tom Morris the president at this point, he seems to get more info than anyone else.

I’d agree with this 100%. I work in a non profit in homelessness and the amount of planning and prep that’s done prior to an announcement or event like this is insane. We plan things down to the second and consider every scenario. The way this has been done (in my opinion only), shows how the instability at an administrative level (no CEO, acting President, etc) can impact at the ground level. It looks like the club is in a shambles.

Not saying this is the wrong decision, I don’t believe anyone would have been happy without a big change, but I’m not thrilled with the timing or manner of the announcement. I know we’re not playing finals, but again in my opinion only, it would’ve been good to give our young players some more game time without the external noise that comes with this happening now.

All the best Simon, Thank you for 2021!, you'll always be a MFC great for that reason along.

The timing only makes sense if, whoever they're speaking with has said "i will not speak to you while there is someone in the seat", the exact same thing was said by Roos and they moved on Neeld.

This is the refresh desperately needed for the MFC, 2026 would have been a [censored] show if Goodwin was still employed.

I am hoping for a senior coach with a succession plan with Bruce or someone similair.

Go Dees

Dear Members,

I am writing to inform you that after 9 years at the helm, Simon Goodwin will be departing the club.

The Board and I came to the decision earlier this week that it is time for a new voice to lead our AFL playing group and program forward.

Simon has given every ounce of his passion and energy to our club over his 11 years here, and as we look to transition to our next AFL premiership, the Board believes that a new senior coach is required to maximise the opportunity ahead of us.

Obviously, decisions like these are never easy to come to, but ultimately, we have made this decision in the best interests of the football club. While Simon leaves an incredible legacy, it is now time for someone else to take the reins and bring with them new energy and new ideas to revitalise our playing list and program.

As a club we have confidence in our playing group and what it can achieve, this decision is about ensuring we maximise our potential and put the right person in place to drive us to our next AFL premiership.

While we have made the decision to part ways with Simon, that should not dampen the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. Simon leaves our club as one of only four coaches in the club’s history to take our AFL program to a premiership and sits behind only Norm Smith, Frank Hughes and Neale Daniher, for games coached at the Dees. A legacy, he should be incredibly proud of.

On behalf of the entire football club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon for everything he has given to the red and blue over the journey. The role of a senior coach is an incredibly demanding one, and despite the challenges along the way, Simon has poured his heart and soul into the Melbourne Football Club.

While this is the end of Simon’s tenure at the Dees, he will always be a Melbourne person, and we wish him, his wife Kris and their family, all the best in their next adventure.

Simon will finish with the club effective immediately and assistant coach Troy Chaplin, will step in as caretaker coach for the remainder of the 2025 season. Troy has been with the club since the end of 2016 and is well equipped and ready to guide the program over the next few weeks.

We will now commence our search for the next Senior Coach of the Melbourne Football Club. As you all know, this is a crucial appointment and one which will significantly shape the future of our club. The Board will assemble a panel to lead the search for our next Senior Coach.

We will confirm the full structure of the panel early next week, but for now I ask that today we focus on celebrating and thanking Simon Goodwin for his incredible contribution to our footy club.

Wonder if there has been behind the scenes stuff going on and we have a replacement ready to go or at least in deep conversations. I personally would like Longmire but will c what happens.

That sounds good ..won a Premiership in his second year & then coached another 12 years with out another. I wonder how long it would be till you turned on him ? I could also throw in Simpson..Hinkley ..Beveridge ..

Apparently the offer was made for him to coach the club for this weekend’s match against the Bulldogs, but he declined. This was according to an ABC News report.

Simon doesn't like the spotlight, so it makes some sense. Wishing him all the best.

D day updates:

Goodwin is furious and feels the rug was pulled from underneath him from recent promises.

Petracca the first player alongside Culley to arrive at The G for Goodys press conference.

Paul Guerra leaving his day job at short notice to provide his presence at the G for the presser.

Has a sacked coach ever not been furious?

I can't imagine anyone has ever been happy about losing their job.

But some respect and a farewell game would have been nice. Of course Goody may have said get stuffed I am going to Bali.
