Happy with the decision and don’t really care about the timing (should have been done earlier).

What I am annoyed at is that the players weren’t told prior to the media. Not good enough.

Even though we have Guerra and Smith coming to the club i am sure they have been involved in this behind the scenes.

Now let’s get Longmire.

According to Morris who broke it, the players were set to be told this morning.

If it happened last night surely they would know already. Goody would have told the leaders, and it would have filtered through the group.

This morning would be the formal address to the players.

I just feel a bit sorry for him he didn't get to finish the season.

Wonder who will coach this weekend.

Well they wouldn't want to stuff this next appointment up.

I want Hayden Skipworth to coach Melbourne.

His best mate is Simon Goodwin. Might be a bit complicated.

This article appeared on The Roar earlier today. Any connection?

The Demons are still stuck in 2021 - here's how they can...

Melbourne’s 2021 premiership felt like the dawn of a dynasty. But three seasons later, the Demons are further from a flag than ever and…

The number of people I know who were not going to renew their memberships and the number on here asking how to turn off auto renew, maybe the club saw the writing on the wall. Guess we will have to wait for the club to put out an announcement.

Effing disgraceful way to treat a premiership coach. You want premierships every year, complain that the rest of the comp has changed and when we implement change to evolve our game, there's inherent impatience and indignation that it takes time... Absolutely cynical move to do it now, when we've got one home game left for the season so we can 'send him off'. I'd take Goodwin over Brad Green any day. I await the grovelling email in my inbox... Thanks for everything, Simon... This club never really appreciated what you gave to it.

Well said and on reflection I am even more upset about this despicable way to treat a drought breaking premiership coach. Can you imagine any other club doing it like this? How typical that we have learned nothing as a club since our last premiership coach was sacked..

I think it’s the right decision but jeez, has any coach been sacked after a win? Even though Eagles are a shambles, Goodwin deserved to finish off the year and go out his way. Screams off dysfunction on the board and Green kneejerking it.

Got to think there is a whole lot more to this behind the screens than what we realise, something stinks, and who knows, Goodwin may be a part of it all.

Interim CEO, interim president and now interim coach 🤣

Hinkley, Longmire,Buckley, skipworth, Enright, Simpson are just a few names. Do one of those have a succession plan with guys mentioned? Do we have something big lined up?

A bit to play out here and many questions need answering.

Much more cost effective to part ways with Goody than to bleed members.

My take is that the problems culminating on game day simce 2021 have been behavioural, psychological and structural. The list itself is very good.

Our coaching has been the biggest issue.

Let's be honest,

It's all fine.

It's not like sacking a premiership coach has ever haunted us.

(Right decision or not - the manner/timing in which the call was made)

Curses aren't real

Curses aren't real

Curses aren't real...

Let's be honest, this club does not have a good record in the last 60 years of treating valuable people well...

Apart from the obvious you have events like Gutnik hanging Balme out to dry, 186 and the timing of the Bailey sacking, benefactors who we ditch the moment we're sick of them and now this. I'm a little tired of it to be honest.

F me Melbourne. I've got a thesis to deliver in the next week. Appalling timing.

If the thesis is on explaining this club (please do), then you have more material!

100% - and it all comes back to the culture and psyche of this club.

We will never be great, again, until we fix that. Really fix it.

Disheartening to try to make sense of this club sometimes!

It is actually on the psychology of denial, paranoia and psychopathy.

Pure speculation unless you're within the four walls of the club.

Firstly, very interesting

Secondly, lol, you have plenty of material you can draw from 🤣

The players didn’t back the game plan; vs St Kilda, they played how they wanted for the first three quarters, then reverted to Goodwin’s plan. Vs West Coast, played four quarters their way. Sealed SG’s fate.

Understand the decision and unlike others I don’t have an issue with the timing, the way it’s been handled seems very poor though.

Overall just feel a bit gutted for him at the min. Always found him very likeable and he will always be premiership coach.

Thanks and good luck Simon with your next chapter in life.

Don't worry about Simon

Thanks Simon. Now we can start moving forward as a club.

I believe that on Demonland in 1965 there was a similar post which said "Thanks Norm. Now we can start moving forward as a club."

The board sacked him now so in case we beat the Bulldogs this round it doesn’t put a spanner in the works for clearly the plan to remove him was already made. The decision was on hold hoping for an insipid performance against WC. Another spirited performance against the bulldogs would have made it difficult for the board to remove him swiftly. Good luck and best wishes Simon for the future and thank you for the premiership.

Correct decision but club needs to justify the process & timing along with being respectful to our only living premiership coach!

Hearing Goodwin say ignoring the score board & not getting hung up on the results was not great.. he’s record 8/18, culture issues.

I hate the timing and think it's poor form. Should have waited till the end of the year.

While I think it was probably untenable now, I still think many on here are going to be surprised by the depths we are going to fall to in the coming years.

Goodwin will go down as our best coach of the last 60 years and probably at least our next 10.

Ultimately he was burnt by a playing group that claimed to love him but routinely wouldn't fight for him or the club when the moments got biggest.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
