Where were our leaders?

Remember Noah Anderson a few weeks ago against Collingwood where he stood up & kicked that great goal to get his team back in front & willed them to victory, or how many times do you see pendles & sidebottom get there team over the line.

We really don't have that on show

Sitting on the bench

I'm the same ,I just laughed at the end. I can't find myself caring until they're is some major change. I'm done with Goodwin era. Thanks for your service and always grateful for a flag but I'm done for the time being. Will still buy a membership and go to the odd game but I'm done getting emotionally invested it's just not good for me

I’m with you Bates. I laughed at the end and I’m surprised how unfazed I am with this. I actually think this loss may have some good outcomes. This outlines how the football department needs some strategic change. Goody and Richardson need to go. Lamb needs to work his butt off and bring in some good role players or fringe players at other clubs who are not getting a chance to play at their club. We need to do a Jordan and Bedford to other clubs.

Taylor needs to look far and wide with our second and third rounders. Taylor is not the problem as he has done well with his drafting, but he needs to continue drafting players to suit the new style of play. Windsor, Langford and Lindsay is a good start. We can’t allow the coaching group to ruin their abilities.

Today could be our 186.

This is NOT me having a go at Spargo, but he is a terrible choice of sub. He has no versatility in role at all, and playing him as the sub ahead of guys like Laurie or even Billings given their form at Casey, and ability to play multiple roles, makes a total mockery of the guys working so hard at the lowest level.

Again Spargo is not at fault at all here, but it’s SO infuriating to watch these poor selections.

It's difficult only having one sub, need to balance the risk of early injury vs getting quick/fresh legs in at the end.
Chuck has positive attributes, but they're only shown when everything is going well.
To be a good sub IMO you need to have one standout attribute whether that be versatility/pace/physicality/marking/goals or whatever - and Spargo doesnt really tick any of those boxes.
As i said in another thread, if he's not starting, he probably should be lining up for Casey.

One of thr all time list blunders was not trading Harrison Petty for that first rounder Adelaide were offering.

I dont think ive seen a worse player since Tom Gillies.

And to make it sweeter, we dropped Jefferson for him. Let that sink in.

Jefferson dropped chest marks in miles of space and nearly missed the ball on set shots last week. He had to be dropped for his own sake.

Petty was his usual poor self but did a role and allowed Fritsch and Melk to play deeper.

Heaven knows why Fritsch was the spare back and not Petty tho. That’s a howler.

But this loss was overwhelmingly on our midfield - who are also our leaders and most expensive players - just having zero stamina, smarts, composure or skills.

Can someone please explain the last 8 seconds to me.
The infringement. the pause, no one following in NWM

They just summed it up perfectly on the first crack. It seemed the players were confused on what was going to happen.

They pointed out that max didn't have to stand on the mark, he should have got back, they had no idea what viney was doing standing by himself on the wing, then they showed bowey run with his back to the play with no awareness.

They pointed out Goodwin wasn't yelling out instructions.

Then pointed out how our leaders capitulated, yet Marshall & millera worked out what they were going to do & they executed it

Half watching First Crack and the last quarter highlights. Some of these goals are absolutely pathetic. Does anyone know how many marks they took I50 that quarter? When our defence was at its nest, that was the one thing I'd never expect to lose to.

It really stinks.

Thanks - i would have given you a positive 'reaction' but it would have made me too sad.

Defensive forward is a reasonable sub, he got that tackle that could’ve saved the game with just a fraction more smart play from the other clowns.

Doesn’t matter who gets injured week in and week out we and most other clubs bring on a half forward.

Spargo looked flat when he first came on tho. I think he’s as checked out as most of the rest of them.

You that say about Jefferson but Petty was absolutely rubbish and has been for the best part of two year. How you can defend him on today effort by saying he played his role is laughable. Most funniest part was Liam [censored] Stocker out bodied him in a one on one contest up forward and then waltzing away whilst Petty lagged behind.

He wasn't playing on their best defender in Wilkie, that was Melksham so he clearly didn't have a defined role.

Was his role today to drop an easy mark right on our goal the line with 2 minutes to go?

Defensive forward that is incredibly slow and a plodder.

Oved that he came on fresh in the last quarter and immediatelyturned it straight over on the wing.

Have to seriously contemplate a MFCSSHP - Melbourne Football Club Supportership Hybernation Protocol.

Does anybody know of any fringe Psychologists who can adapt CBT methods to achieve such a thing?

Why make the Sup?

And why take Picket off with 5mins of the game to go then put him back on with 2mins to go?

Gawn/Trac/Viney/Oliver/ where was the leadership in the last 15mins?

Imagine that happening at the Pies or Crows there senior players just naturally step up but not ours because they play as individuals.

If petty gets another game Goodwin is not serious about the MFC

Somehow, despite everything in this club’s history, this is the lowest point.

The stench around the club that we tried to mask with the scent of “love” in the pre-season is stronger than ever.

I’m [censored] sick of being embarrassed. I’m [censored] sick of being angry.

Sticking fat with the same coach, and same players, doing the same things week after week, has ground this club into the irrelevant dirt.

We are a laughable embarrassment, and I’m so [censored] sick of it.

Goodwin managed to coach a record even Mark Neeld couldn't achieve

Completely out coached by Laughing Ross Lyon

And it's not unforseeable that we don't win again this year.

Time to go this year, Goody

We'll all be the better for it.

It’s kinda poetic that we’re lamenting the lack of on-field leadership for the mess that was the last 30secs, when the lack of off-field leadership means no one will make a definitive call on Goodwin.

The learnings train will roll into 2026 🫠

Anyone wish to support the time wasted on soccer ball training that could have been spent on more last 3 minutes of a game scenarios?

We all need EMDR with narrative therapy GS.

Didnt anyone else just feel no emotion when the siren sounded?

Funny enough I just sat there for a good 5 minutes and just reflected on what actually just happened.

Stunned, but yet not one bit surprised. It was just the Melbourne way to lose unfortunately.

Then the influx of text messages and what's app group blew up from my mates just rubbing the extra salt in the wound.

People won't want to hear this, but that last quarter showed how much we need May and Lever.

At this point I dont mind if they sack goody but I dont see anyone in the market who I feel is deserving or more capable. Still, it might be time

Had a Sydney fan mock me in a group chat so i said 'at least we weren't the only team to lose a game in one quarter this round', was happy with that - but then he said that was 'the best comeback ever'.

1-1 after 90 minutes, onto Extra-Time and penalties it seems.

That might be the game we had to lose, and in that fashion.

Might cause some action.

I actually am not disappointed: it’s just more hilarity from the club.

As I keep saying, we are not a serious football club.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
