    Three knee reconstructions. Diagnosed with testicular cancer, underwent chemotherapy only to have the cancer return seven months later, this time metastasising to his stomach. Indeed, an incredible person.

    i would say that board, admin, senior coach, FD, list manager and senior players are all underperforming. badly

    JT and our young crop will get good end of year grades. so will maxy and kossie. everyone else at the club need to lift.

    Big weekend at Spa

    After unexpectedly losing last week Melbourne Storm won a close one against the Roosters last night but it came at the cost of an injury to Storm's star player and winner of last years Dally M winner Jahrome Hughes.

    In breaking news:

    Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes is expected to return to the field for the NRL finals now that scans on his left shoulder have revealed he does not need surgery.

    Hughes went down during Melbourne's 34-30 win over the Sydney Roosters on Thursday night, clutching his left arm after attempting to tackle Roosters captain James Tedesco.

    Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes is expected to return to the field for the NRL finals, after scans on his left shoulder revealed he does not need surgery.

    This season has proved a disaster for the AFL - and even more so for the broadcasters.

    Five rounds still to go and there's only one team outside the 8 who realistically can make finals, the dogs (by the by has a team ever not made the finals with a percentage north of 125%?)

    Meaning we have five weeks with any number of rubbish games, including tonight.

    And tonight's game highlights another related worry for the AFL and broadcasters - the gap in performance levels of the top 9 teams and the bottom 9 teams.

    The dogs are 9th on 40 points, and the bombers are 14th on 20 points.

    In most seasons, at this stage of the season 9th would of course be favourites in the betting against the 14th team.

    I know the bombers have been decimated by injury but even so the fact they are 11.50 to win this match is absolutely nuts.

    The dogs are 1.04 to win. I'm pretty sure winx never even started that short.

    Remember when it was all fair and reasonable that we never got good time slots because we weren't very good and/or we didn't draw crowds and/or our play style wasn't exciting? (depending on who you ask)

    The only really interesting thing about tonight's game is the old '186 watch'. Dogs can score frantically on their day and Essendon are perfectly capable of throwing in the towel.

    They’ll never admit it but AFL HQ must be horrified, and panicked. The season has been over for literally half the competition for months, and the fixture couldn’t have been more poorly designed. Thursday night in particular has had 8 weeks of games that have been over at half time.

    This season is a stinker, and I’m genuinely surprised it’s not been a much bigger story.

    • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

      Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
