Archer got 3 weeks for a bloke knocking himself out off his leg so 3 weeks is a lock.

The real offence is accidental, high contact, severe impact. If both players were of equal size then it’s about 0.2 of a second difference as to who takes the ball first and takes the big hit. But we all know that if someone has been collected high there must be a guilty perpetrator, but of course only if it involves bumps etc. No issues, no “duty of care” if you take someone out from behind with a flying knee to the spleen or back of the head spoiling or taking a mark.

The whole football world would say it was a football act and he was going for the ball.

May is not Moore and it's doubtful that he gets a fair hearing.

Question (and excuse my ignorance): Maysie is out on concussion protocols. If he gets rubbed out for weeks, do the two weeks out for concussion count in the penalty or does the penalty take effect after the concussion weeks?

Yeah I agree. There is nothing trivial about this and the fact that Christians could fit it into the matrix tells you he is trying his best to mount a case but nothing sticks.

If it was a black and white he’d threaten resignation and toss the case out.

I mean, what's May supposed to do, disappear into thin air? He was going for the ball. He didn't turn his shoulder which would be a normal reflex action. He stayed open, vulnerable for damage to himself. I think this alone showed duty of care for his opponent.

Meanwhile had May got seriously injured by a knee to the temple (which can actually kill you) , the AFL would say thats an accident. Either the outcome matters or it doesnt. Any contact to the head if the player gets concussed should be a suspension and tdk should be looking at a 3 week penalty also.

Just as you can still bunp but lbe punished if it goes bad, you can take a specky but still get suspended if the player you're kneeing in the head gets concussed. Basic logic.

I don’t really see how May doesn’t get weeks. Of course he’s initially playing the ball and there’s no intent to hurt, but he’s late, even if just fractionally. That means it’s not incidental contact and that’s what sets it apart from other football acts that occur while competing for the ball (like the knee in the temple).

The reality is these days if you think you’re a chance to be second to the ball you need to do everything to ensure you’re not going to make high contact. I think we’ll have a hard time convincing the tribunal May had no other reasonable option and acted with a duty of care.
