So hypocritical he gets rubbed out based on outcome for that but the knee to head concussion outcome from the speccy wonโ€™t register.

they need to cut out the double standards just because they like speccys they can only seriously want to get protect the head if they donโ€™t just cherry pick when they want to suspend people.

ย

Archer got 3 weeks for a bloke knocking himself out off his leg so 3 weeks is a lock.

The MRO works off outcome and is a disgrace

I think he should get zero as he was contested the ball

6 weeks it is!

The real offence is accidental, high contact, severe impact. If both players were of equal size then itโ€™s about 0.2 of a second difference as to who takes the ball first and takes the big hit. But we all know that if someone has been collected high there must be a guilty perpetrator, but of course only if it involves bumps etc. No issues, no โ€œduty of careโ€ if you take someone out from behind with a flying knee to the spleen or back of the head spoiling or taking a mark.

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THAT MONGREL MOORE PUT HIS KNEES IN AGAIN IN THE DYING MINUTES VS FREO. HABITUAL OFFENDER SCUM!

Nope, but wouldn't surprise me in the least.

It's OK though, we know the ratings system the AFL for head high contact to determine suspensions - it's THE TV RATINGS STUPID!!

No it doesn't. Tribunal means it didn't fit the matrix. Its a better result than Christian prejudicing it with a ruling.

Ed Richards knocked out an opponent with a forearm and they called it a football act, so May has a chance.

Best thing is he didnโ€™t turn his shoulder to Evans and he was running straight at the ball and then didnโ€™t brace or lift his arm.

Yes but it is Darcknee Moore!

...but it's May.

Lets say it was Darcy Moore in the same position.

The whole football world would say it was a football act and he was going for the ball.

May is not Moore and it's doubtful that he gets a fair hearing.

Question (and excuse my ignorance): Maysie is out on concussion protocols. If he gets rubbed out for weeks, do the two weeks out for concussion count in the penalty or does the penalty take effect after the concussion weeks?

They are concurrent.

So hopefully we see his 250th game this year๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah I agree. There is nothing trivial about this and the fact that Christians could fit it into the matrix tells you he is trying his best to mount a case but nothing sticks.

If it was a black and white heโ€™d threaten resignation and toss the case out.

I mean, what's May supposed to do, disappear into thin air? He was going for the ball. He didn't turn his shoulder which would be a normal reflex action. He stayed open, vulnerable for damage to himself. I think this alone showed duty of care for his opponent.

Its so ridiculous. 9 times out of 10 he doesnt break his face and May doesnt get cited for anything because it was an accident. So its based on outcome.

Meanwhile had May got seriously injured by a knee to the temple (which can actually kill you) , the AFL would say thats an accident. Either the outcome matters or it doesnt. Any contact to the head if the player gets concussed should be a suspension and tdk should be looking at a 3 week penalty also.

Just as you can still bunp but lbe punished if it goes bad, you can take a specky but still get suspended if the player you're kneeing in the head gets concussed. Basic logic.

I donโ€™t really see how May doesnโ€™t get weeks. Of course heโ€™s initially playing the ball and thereโ€™s no intent to hurt, but heโ€™s late, even if just fractionally. That means itโ€™s not incidental contact and thatโ€™s what sets it apart from other football acts that occur while competing for the ball (like the knee in the temple).

The reality is these days if you think youโ€™re a chance to be second to the ball you need to do everything to ensure youโ€™re not going to make high contact. I think weโ€™ll have a hard time convincing the tribunal May had no other reasonable option and acted with a duty of care.

The counter argument will be that May should have pulled up and positioned himself to tackle.

given the extent of the injury, he is going to get at least get three weeks I would think

You could easily argue he was winning the race for the ball the way it was bouncing, but then it bounced towards Evans at last possible moment giving May no time to think how to react.

This has got totally FUBAR written all over it.

This displays the closed shop bias of the league and how it's corrupt beyong the pale.

Makes me sick.

Alex Pearce got off - watching the Sunday footy show that looks MILES worse/more avoidable

Agree. Pearce charged at the player from a distance and while attempting to correct at the last moment, he knocked the player out and into the air, spinning around.

It was a far more violent incident and outcome, but as some have said it is May, not Darcy Moore.

Ed Richards raised his forearm and hit a player in the head, knocking him out, but got off because he had the footy.

One thing that may help him, is that nearly all of the ex players are saying he actually did nothing wrong.

He doesn't brace, turn his shoulder and is running straight at the ball. Contact is made to the top of May's shoulder, not his bicep. Evans is also not in front of him, but coming from the side and Evans also owed May a duty of care too and could have protected himself by deviating, or putting an arm up, as Barrett said on the Sunday Footy show.

It will be interesting, but as I said in another post, May could need a couple of weeks off anyway, given his concussion history, so we might be talking about one extra game if he gets three, as the AFL seems to be seeking.

Red... the MRO and Tribunal are not about equatable argument.

The MRO and the tribunal, in fact the entire AFL are a farce - some may even consider corrupt.

Not even going to waste second of energy and emotion in this one. Sick of getting my hopes with anything to do with this club (the only nice surprise associated with this club in the last 2 years was Kozzie re-signing)

Watching the game live in the pocket where it happened I knew he was cooked.

Apparently the AFL are asking for 3 weeks, so that's what I'm expecting.

Maybe it's time to do a Barry Hall and try for an injunction.

I'd normally be all up for the club to fight this properly but, I think we're best to put May on ice for the rest of the year anyway. Not only because of his concussion but he's not moving well at all.

It's time to try a new backline setup for the rest of the year no matter how hard we get spanked

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
