Like any trauma, nothing will ever heal what happened in the 2023 semi final. But a win next weekend, kicking Carlton while they're down, would certainly help put a smile on my face.

Look. Sometimes I like to get Old Testament. Viney knocking Maynard’s head off in a final which sees Maynard never play again, that would help heal.

The karma bus has hit us with the Blues winning the next 3 by under a goal.

Pies not cursed by beating them the next week though. AFL karma works in strange ways.

It's Clayton's 200th saturday night

Hope he kicks a goal and everyone gets around him.

This run of games that I would classify as "winnable" could actually be very important for shaping 2026. I'm so sick of losing to the Blues, especially since we've been dudded and/or dudded ourselves in most of the losses.

That "lie on the line" from Petracca's match winning goal still annoys me, a total guess from the goal ump.

i think about that alot:( it would have been one of the great goals of all time 55 m out off about two steps

The elephant in the room is Lever. Rest him for the remainder of the season. 2 serious operations, no preseason have left him struggling to run and compete. TMac stays in andage shouldn't come into consideration form should. Winning is what it is about and not gifting games for the sake of youth. McVee is probably in the same boat . No preseason has left him a shadow of player he can be.

May comes in for Lever, Riv to cover Sparrow and Howes to line up down back. I am not sure Petty has fully recovered he was on ly doing run throughs at training last week.

The funny thing is that every Melbourne fan sees it, and would be absolutely on board with them putting him in cotton wool and getting whatever surgeries he needs done. So I don't understand why the match committee persist with him when a) he's hampered, and b) he isn't even playing well and is in fact a liability at times.

Melk played a blinder that night!

Kicked four goals and took that cracking mark in the final minutes to bring the margin to within a goal.

I have not seen a player not do the fundamentals that are expected from every player. It has been a long time since we've seen players just not chase or push to run into space to create. All of those really simple basic non-negotiables are not there. And it's getting worse he looks very disinterested. This is on top of the Lack of footy smarts and the consistent fumbling and giving away free kicks.

And it would be “uninterested” not “disinterested”, if it were either.

Perhaps. But if that's the case, it should be so that we can get some games into Adams, or even Howes.

Said this ages ago.. still do. He's never been 100% this year. He's got niggles that obviously haven't properly sorted themselves out. He was brought back in because the club panicked. This has served no one. Lever is a very reasoned, very professional player. It will be annoying him far more than it is any of us that he's not providing to his abilities. He knows it. He'll be frustrated .

In this game you only have to be a step off your pace or slightly hamstruck and you'll be way off the mark. .

If there are to be real learnings MFC... how about NOT playing guys 'til they're fit and brought up to speed properly ?? 🤔

Agree on Jefferson, but TMac due to his age unlikely to be in our next GF team, so if there’s a kid to play in his spot for the remainder of the year… Howes or Adams.

To be fair, most of our list might not be 😂

Pretty sure you know exactly how it will pan out. Favourites in regardless of preparation.

Lever is a bit of a one trick pony and too prone to brain fades. All of his career. Its just that now he's slower it he can't hide it anymore.

Dunno about one trick Jnr. His forte has always been a chess like footy brain. He reads the ball very very well and even as he attacked the ball in flight he'd be preparing to give off..or hold for option's. A big thinker who had sublime agility.

He still thinks but his body won't play ball now.

I've changed my mind again on these team changes, before Howes concussion we trusted him to be our 3rd key tall and he deserves the same opportunity again.

In: Howes, May, Spargo/Billings

Out: TMAC, Lever, Sparrow

Do you mean the battle or the war? I'd like to think our club is playing to win our next premiership and not solely to win next week. With that in mind, the club should be balancing the importance of including experienced players with the value of developing the next generation.

I tend to agree, but it's hard to see who comes out, especially as May will most definitely come back into the side.

Fritta had a good game, which makes it even harder to find him a spot up forward, Tmac had a good game down back, and it will be a crying shame to drop Turner/Jeffo/JVR who are all growing in confidence and need the exposure.

Then you also have Howes who played exceptionally well at Casey, and showed good form prior to his concussion.

My gut says Tmac will go out for May (unjustified by any measure, because Tmac was excellent), and Petty will either get an extra week off to recover, or he will replace one of JVR/Jeffo, which would be a mistake IMO.

The other option is to play a very tall forward mix with all 3 of JVR, Petty and Jeffo, but with rain predicted, that seem silly. Also makes us too easy to rebound against. This mix only work if one of Fritta or Melksham don't play, and clearly that's not happening unless they are injured.

IMHO Lever is the one who is in pretty average form, and deserves to be dropped. Disco can play his intercept role, and May and Petty can play the lockdown roles. Can't see that happening tho.

Disco is undroppable.

He is the backline for the next 10 years.

Not sure people are aware but Clarry is playing his 200th this week.

One of the best to don the red and blue i sending my warmest wishes in his milestone game. 👏❤️🏆🥇

Maybe a bit harsh on the one trick pony. He's never really been able to play one on one though and now he's slower of body and mind it's really causing issues for us..

This is not the game to drop Lever. He is suited to the Blues style of football. I’ll back him to have a solid game.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
