Maynard levels of thuggery from Xerri, if thereโ€™s any justice heโ€™ll get rubbed out for 7+ weeks.

What a cowardly individual. Glad maxy got stuck into that [censored].

Gee the commentators went soft on him. Football act, split second BS

What a grub. WHAT tackle?!!!! Swing his arm out, just one arm to the face. Thats a tackle?

4 weeks. Minimum.

Typical. Clarko is a C [censored].

Just like the excuses for the Collingwood thug.

Very happy with Bayley Fritsch's game today. 3 goals and 21 possessions (career high?). Found space and his instincts were to help the team today.

One slight worry - 0 tackles and 4 pressure acts. When you're finding space and getting opportunities like he did today then you don't worry about the defensive side, but he is not going to get the space he did today against a lot of the other sides in the competition. When his leads are blocked and the forward 50 marks aren't happening this is when most of us notice the lack of defensive pressure and being able to offer something other than his 1 wood. I hope we can see more of this from now till the end of the season, or just keeping hitting him lace out.

He played well. Just infuriating he hasn't been doing that for the better part of 2 years.

He is a great player when he plays like he did today. We just need to see more of it more regularly.

This absolutely makes me lose my mind. I have been around long enough to have witnessed a lot of this stuff.

Almost every time a Melbourne player gets injured during play, the commentators downplay it in favour of the offending player. And to top it off whenever we do something remotely similar our player is made out to be the world's worst. It does my head in and it's been happening for years.

It's not me seeing the game through red and blue glasses there is definite media bias.

But, it's not as if anything is gonna come of it. Just our usual whack, all part and parcel of being a Demon.

The worst example of this of course was the 2000 GF where Brad Green and Troy Simmonds both fell victim to football-type actions. Otherwise, it's a remarkably violent game, because it seems that what the punters, and head office want.

I will take that memory to the grave gw. They were chanting Collingwood Collingwood. What's the betting that he has no case to answer but a player who name calls gets 4 weeks. I thought the head was a protected area.

The Collingwood chant ringing around the ground at the time was revolting, as was the cheering and applauding of Maynard for the rest of the match, and this is an example of what sets Collingwood apart from all other clubs.

Clarko's opinion on aggro in footy isn't worth the paper it is written on, especially when it is about one of his own players. I really hope we never have another injury in footy like poor Neil Schache, but [censored] like Clarkson and the commentary box parrots are creating an atmosphere in which this is increasingly likely, unfortunately.

as someone who lives in Adelaide at least for me there is nothing that separates port and pies fans, same thing happened when houston knocked out rankine and they cheered port Adelaide and booed him when he got taken off on the cart, and lets not forget the eddie betts incident. a causal day out for a port or pies fan which involves assault and 100's of racist rubbish

Me too. Worst day at the footy I've had.

I went to the Casey game at Whitten Oval last night R&B and under the newly rebuilt Whitten Stand there was a little Western Bulldogs museum open with some great memorabilia including the actual guernsey that he had to be cut out of after that incident. I didn't know anything about it previously.

It was at that moment that I vowed to never attend an away game against the Pies again (finals aside).

You will never see me sit with, or financially support that despicable club and their braindead, coke sniffing, toothless trash supporters.

I get that every coach will defend their players but what is Clarko smoking!?!?!

To try and spin that action as some sort of unintentional accident is just ridiculous, actually made me angry reading what he said.

And considering he is 35, a lot on here wanted him gone 2-3 years ago. He is playing as well now as in any time in his career.

Yes, I remember the criticism Goodwin copped for playing his โ€˜favouritesโ€™ when he kept giving Melksham a game

Maybe he backs people in that have the talent and desire

Agree. Xerri was super frustrated. Gawn was absolutely dominant and Xerri had next to no impact at all. Just checking Wheelo's ratings, Xerri scored 4.9 for the game which is by far his lowest rated game of the season. Gawn was third highest rated on the ground with 17.3 which is actually his 6th highest rated game for the season. Xerri was losing it before he dropped Sparrow.

Xerri already knocked Max down behind play twice (one leading to his goal).

It's hard to tell in real time as to whether it was clumsy or purposeful but in slowmo it doesn't look good.

Give him and Tmac another contract year for 2026. They are both playing well and keeping no one young from getting a game.

Gawn loves other ruckmen. hear him talk about Witts and Grundy etc

Doesnโ€™t do the same for Xerri

He got schooled by a 33yo legend and couldnโ€™t hack it

Agree. Theyโ€™re not the future but we should have the list space to keep both for another year.

The Whitten Oval development is so good. I sometimes go and have brunch at the Alfa cafe thatโ€™s in the facility during the week and I can see various Bulldogs teams training out on the ground.

Itโ€™s really made me realise the value of a training facility and its connection to community to develop culture. I imagine how good it is for the Dogs players to live in Yarraville, Williamstown or even Port Melbourne and be at the club in 10 minutes. Theyโ€™ve created a pretty appealing lifestyle to sell. We seem a long way off in that department.

Mine too

I fell out of love with AFL because of that game.

Something definitely died that night and itโ€™s never been back.

Watching Sparrow today was very sad. PTSD for sure for the supporters around us.

I just hope he will be ok. Those knock out injuries are just horrific. They make you feel sick to your stomach. I can only imagine what his parents and partner felt watching it.

Poor Tommy, out cold before he even hit the ground. I hadnโ€™t seen it in slow-mo โ€˜til now and yes things look worse in slow-mo but geez thatโ€™s hard to watch.

Xerri just did a coat hanger, pretty clear and simple. If youโ€™re going for the ball, youโ€™ll turn your head or body, toward the ball.

Xerri keeps his head dead straight and just swings the arm out.
