Completely agree and I was in the verge of posting exactly the same thing. Max has to beat Xerri because all else aside, in this match he is playing for his 8th AA - well, that's how I see it anyway. So he should have been given help.

If a journeyman with a handful of games in a zillion year career is our answer..... Gawd help us!

It would also have enabled Roo to play as a pure forward and not be battered in the ruck. I have told the Club I am available as a selector.

starting to question if we even have a selection committee at this point? probably just drawing straws or blindly throwing darts at a dart board to pick teams

Reportedly there’s another Melbourne based club very interested in him. Suspect he’ll get another gig.

It’s a great example of a lack of selection integrity though, on our behalf.

Bill’s been our best performer at VFL level for two years now

Regardless of whether he makes it he should have been given a sustained run at it a long time ago - and not as sub

I completely agree, particularly with your point around the lack of opportunity to demonstrate if he can (or can’t) perform at AFL standard/level. It’s a pretty damning notion, especially when you compare it to other players who are played week in, week out.

don't understand why bill Laurie isn't given a run

i hope he gets a chance at another AFL club. deserves the opportunity to see if he has what it takes.

Disappointed Campbell hasn’t been selected to help Max battle Xerri. He surely would offer more than Jefferson.

Often curious why name and not select.. What's gained.

Thought I read somewhere Richmond might be keen. Could make sense with the Yze connection.

Really wanted us to give him a proper run at it. Just the one game as sub for 20 minutes this year after outperforming all of Tholstrup, Sharp, Billings and Henderson is ridiculous.

No what I’m getting at is. If only 1 play or 2 players are omitted on a Thursday for a Sunday. Only 1 or 2 can be bought in. Excluding late outs.

So when Sharp was the only player omitted. We could only choose one from the squad named.

Yeah nah.

Last night West Coast initially omitted 3 players last night in Tim Kelly, Bo Allan and Sandy Brock.

As of 5pm tonight after teams were finalised they omitted a fourth player in Jack Williams who was already named on the extended bench. So they ended up dropping an extra player after initial making the three omissions last night. This literally goes against your argument.

My point is you can make as many changes you want from your extended bench on Sunday games. Just because one player gets omitted doesn't mean you can't make further omissions. Teams dont fully get finalised until friday afternoon.

Yeah, he’ll be at Richmond.

What in Gods name has Tholstrup done to warrant selection

He has a mullet.

Staggering how Tholstrup remains in the team this week.

I would say the same, or more so, for #31BF

I'd say Salem has been in people's cross-hairs since very close to the start. Understated footballer who seems to be the first on the "let's trade" list. (A long while ago, I know, but widely underrated in the GF.)

........

I will never forget - mid first quarter in the 2021 GF I thought that Salo could be well in the running for the Norm Smith, that's how good he was.

But ... that was the game the #31BF kicked 6 goals

My bad I never realised.

Goodwin never seems to do that.

Selection confusion aside.

I can’t wait to watch us kick ourselves out this game!!

Yeah our accuracy has been atrocious this year and could very well cost us another game this weekend. Also, North are clearly one of the more accurate sides in the league.

I will say though that our accuracy is trending upwards since hitting rock bottom (7.21) against St Kilda.

We had more respectable scores of 10.9, 12.11 and 11.9 very late in the Pies, GC and Adelaide games.

Barring an interrupted pre season Kentfield should be lining up at FF in 26.

I've seen enough.

North outs make this a must win game.

Lose to an injury ravaged North and the club will officially be in crisis mode

that said i reckon we win by 20-30 points

definition of crisis mode?

I agree, it’s a disgrace some very very very average players are getting a game in front of Laurie

Presumably we will get a fine for bringing him in outside of the listed emergencies?

Unlikely if he has Covid. I think the rules changed a bit since the pandemic. Of course I’m sure those rules only apply to Collingwood and Geelong 🙄

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
