Petty or TMac down back. Turner coming out of the goalsquare with Melksham and Chin buzzing anround, open the fwd line right up, manic footy for parts of the game.

If jvr and petty cant put up even 'average' forward numbers against North and some of the weaker teams in the next month, its time for some honest truths.

Average numbers would be 4 marks a game and 3 scoring shots. That's the bare minimum to make it as a kpf. If not for Melksham's elite forward work we would have lost the last 2 weeks by 6 goals +.

Looks like Petty won't be playing this week, so I think there will either be minimal change to the forward line - though I would like Fritsch to go to sub or the VFL and Luker to come in for a shot at it. Probably more likely that Spargo comes in and we go small.

This week yes, but If there's minimal change to the forward line, i am hopeful but not expecting a major change to our results over the rest of the season.

Still, North may be without 5 of their best 10 players. For a bottom 3 team. This should just be a matter of stopping Sheezel and Curtis and winning by 6 to 8 goals or we are not a serious contender for a long long time.

Larkey is the big worry for mine. Realistically, we could turn it into a bit of a shoot out, which is a risk, but would be wild to watch.

Would love to see Langford spend more time in the middle.

Spargo. Underwhelming at Casey. Guaranteed he gets the call up. Hit up 2 nice passes but otherwise had little impact and was missing in the last qtr. Fitness? Let’s stop gifting games.

Windsor also needs to get played on the wing not half back or in the guts.

Woey jnr should come in. He’s been good at Casey and you reward on form and not on name & not on favouritism.

Kentfield in for Jeffo. Whilst I’d like to see Jeffo get a good run, last week was so bad. He looked lost. His efforts At times were so insipid. Fritsch and Jeffo together in the same team is a worry.

Kolt or Sharp or both to go to Casey.

Ins. Kentfield Howes Woey jnr

Outs. Jeffo. Kolt. Sharp.

I assume Petty will miss to give him a full 2-3 weeks to get over the concussion

Footnote, if Lever is not right, then bring in TMCD

Me too.

He, Curtis, Zurharr (who killed us in round 2) and Xerri will go a long way towards deciding the result.

I'm assuming and planning for Larkey to play despite being injured. They'll just park him near the goals.

We didn’t have May in round 2. I expect him to do a good job on Larkey. Turner a backup option, who also didn’t play round 2.

I think we win this one. Feeling confident and will be there. Not too fussed with the ins and outs either. It’s too frustrating wishing this bloke or that goes in or out with our club.

I’m sticking to keep getting games into JVR, Windsor, Kolt, Langford , Lindsay , Jefferson and I used to say McVee. To McVee I’d say keep the contract talks going or we are looking to our 2026 list.

Yes, highly concerning re Judd who I rate highly regardless of his down year

Good point. Larkey got a hold of Petty in round 2. And May kept Larkey goaless last year.

It's the small-medium forwards like your Rankines, Zurharrs, Jye Menzies and Dan Butlers of the world that have destroyed us this year, rather than the key forwards (aside from Ben King and Georgiadis).

I'm in town for this one.

Anyone know what gates are best for using GA membership tickets (from the MFC app?)

Gates 3,4 or 5 - sometimes Gate 4 is not open for the "smaller" games.....

Norf paying $4.30. Outrageous odds.

Great odds for line bets ;)

$4.30 odds on a team that pumped us by 10 goals earlier in the season makes no sense at all

i'm not a betting man but i'm very tempted to lay a bet

this is me too

Assuming that Petty is not available, here is my team for this week:

McVee, TMac, Lever

Bowie, Turner, Rivers

Lindsay, Oliver, Langford

Petracca, JVR, Chandler

Jeffo, May, Melksham

Gawn, Viney, Pickett

Bench: Langdon, Windsor, Howes, Laurie, Sparrow.

Out: Fritsch, Salem, Tholstrup, Sharp

Time for May to convert to that big, bustling, leading forward we all know he wants to be, who will crash packs and leaves a path of destruction for all that get in his way. Also gives Jeffo the 3rd tall role, that he needs, and a bit of confidence that someone else will be doing all the heavy work.

Fritsch and Salem out. Both not playing the team role they should be.

Kolt and Sharp out because they are not good enough yet.

I’d almost be inclined to have Verrall as the back up ruckman, as Xeri is always body sapping for Gawn, and he needs a good break - without taking JVR away from his KPF role. Perhaps Verrall for Sparrow or Laurie?

All In Crypto GIF

Understanding that we need to get forward time into JVR, would there be any harm in trying him down back for some of these games to finish the season?

Personally I think you can learn a lot about playing as a forward from playing as a back and seeing the game from a different perspective. Won't play on Larkey obviously but a physical battle with Zurhaar would be interesting and he'd learn a lot.

It's not going to happen obviously but it's fun to think about.

Nonsensical.

Also, $1.90 on us winning by at least 27 points is way overs for a team that struggles to play more than two competent quarter a game.

We could give Jeffo more senior time , should we ignore Kentfield's effort? Both players are not setting the world on fire. I think we should rotate them both from seniors to reserves. Give them a variety of Forward roles. None of this going to happen of course.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
