The 3rd quarter pile on by GC was the end of the game. Their effort level and run died off early in the 4th and allowed us to get some momentum but they were definitely not running on all cylinders.

In the good old days, 2021-23 we would often do the same to weaker sides.

I've got a theory the team did some sightseeing around Nimbin this morning then straightened up during the second quarter.

Lost in the first by a team with no application or desire to win the ball. Improved after that just on effort and some good passages of play just to tease us.... Injuries didn't help but it was lost in the ist.

What truely confuses me is the lack of effort for our leaders to try and drag to team out of the [censored] funk they were in that we saw in the 2nd. Surely 5 minutes in, they should have been stepping up to change the way we were playing. Do they have to wait until qtr time for Goodwin to tell them to play footy.

Again this is on the coaching team, they are not delivering.

Season was pretty much dead after the saints debacle and then the repeat at port.

Some honesty with the situation would be appreciated. "Ive been trying the same things now for 2 years and its not working, it may be time to change things up"

He must be hopeless because for 2 years his coaching has failed.

And,Goodwin says it MAYBE time for change!? How stupid is he?Nothing has worked for 2 years!

I really feel for losing coaches who have to do post match interviews- it shouldn’t happen.

Another example of the AFL caving in to tv stations wanting more air time.

Gee the message he has been delivering for a number of years has certainly been working.

He could be somewhat honest and own the performance they served up. Say it wasn’t good enough and stop sugar coating. Take some ownership and accountability.

In the NBA theres a person called 'Cleaning the Glass" that compiles league-wide stats based on minutes that aren't junk time, to eliminate the come-backs that overinflate the value of points/assists and other stats made when the result is over and the starters are all off the floor.

Goodwin is the antithesis of this valuation method. He values all the work we've done when we're already way behind and out of the game. It's disingenuous and i've had enough of it. Next coach please. And I get that its "good" that we didn't throw in the towel, but more often than not its the opposition putting the cue in the rack!

Was at the game and qrt1 was PATHETIC. The rest of the game we tried to play catch up which is hard to do when u turn the ball over consistently and stand there not quiet sure what the hell u r suppose to be doing.

The amount of finger pointing and lack of movement on the field was astounding. They look totally confused and bereft of direction.

Another really disappointing day.

I get the sense Goodwin's message and attitude in press conferences is the same as his coaching style and message to the players.

To say you were proud of the comeback is a total cop out. He continually fails to address or identify the problem which is why the problem isnt being solved.

Namely, we are by far the easiest team to prepare for. Predictable structure and personnel, predictable strengths and weaknesses. We cant mark inside 50 (which is the games most important stat) and we cant defend on turnover, both of which are squarely on him after 50 games of this nonsense.

A few little positives:

Melksham’s 11 scoring shots would have to be one of the better individual forward performances of the year. Yes he missed a few elementary shots, but 3 of his 5 goals were class.

Petracca had a belter of a game today.

Kozzie’s kicked 14 goals in his last 5 games which is unquestionably All Australian stuff. 3 goals and 25 touches today has to be considered elite stats.

And our ball movement and punish off turnover was excellent in the last quarter.

yes and that was the bewlidering part. We should be settled now, very few injuries and it felt like the team just started playing together. Oliver seemed to be always defensively running first quarter with noone else putting in, as they went from GC went from half back to shot on goal like a preseason game. I thought it was disgraceful. We looked like an unenergetic rabble and it was game over in about 20 minutes.

May gives away a free. He is then charged at and put down with force, with the commentators saying it should be a reversal. There is then an all in brawl. While players are being held down, Ainswerth, who got the original free, picks up the ball metres ahead of the mark, plays on and runs about 35 metres into goal, with out bouncing the ball.

Four umpires stand and watch all of that and do nothing.

Imo they should all be in the VFL next week.

we're just not very good

I was making my point in answer to a post we lack fitness and that we were playing under some reasonable difficulties, in being men down from quarter time, with several other injuries as well.

We were beaten but not thrashed, by a home team, playing for finals, with more fit players for most of the game.

That might not be solace, but it is recognition of an effort from a team playing under a disadvantage and not giving in.

We could have lost that game by a hundred points, from where we were at quarter time..
