Surprised the AFL haven't tried to create a rivalry game between the two expansion teams yet, a la GC and it's Frankenstein cousin Brisbane. How about the Plastic Fantastic?

Callum Brown would be nice inside our forward 50. Great kick and strong as an ox.

Such a soft 50 at a critical time

Giants should win from here

7 goals to 1 in the last Q

Suns still soft

Expect the Dogs will replace them in the 8 before long

Good lord, the worst non deliberate call of all time

Umps got the Giants home with some howlers in the last Q

such a pity in a cracking match

Why were GC$ wearing recycled WCE jumpers from the 1990s??

I think we've entered the "anyone but Collingwood" phase of the season

Collingwood are like Dees in 2022., Sydney in 2024. When you are the best team all year it turns ugly for you. Watch it unravel for them.

To be fair, the umpires looked after the Suns the whole game - 24 to 15 frees the Suns way.

I'm not watching a lot of other footy but Geez there seems to be a lot of very soft 50m penalties being dished out of late. Such gifts to teams and momentum killers to others.

Is it just me noticing this after the Dees got hammered the other week or does it seem to be on the rise?

the issue is they just call heaps over a couple of weeks and then dont call any for weeks after that, its just a massive cycle. either make calls consistently [censored] or good not in between and dont change throughout the season

An absolute shocker 'Dub'...there's no way in the world that shouldn't have been called.

Yet somehow 4 umpires couldn't make it.

i’ve noticed an increase in the past couple of weeks. 2-3 a game is normal

The one today which decided the game imo was a bloke running past around 10 yards away. did not influence the bloke with the ball at all. Ended in a goal

so frustrating

You know the umpiring is bad when you fall about laughing about the inconsistencies and errors favouring the team you are barracking for. When oh when is the AFL going to realise they are making a hash of the game.

And don't get me started on the ugly wrestling match to be seen at every ruck contest.

Gold Coast is going to be the side to miss the 8, right? A post-bye slump as per usual?

What an absolute fail it will be if they do miss from 8-2 with the list they have.

(Meanwhile I expect them to comfortably account for us on Saturday. They should be fired up knowing their finals spot is on the line).

still two games in hand over the other teams around them on the ladder - like gw$, who are only a win ahead of them on points

How exciting for dogs fans to attend every week to watch a key forward in Darcy who can also kick straight

he very well may be the player of his generation with the rate that he's going at

Nah, Collingwood are the AFL's official team these days.

Nothing wrong with a good spray occasionally.

Players are on Top Coin, if they are not playing to the Coaches instructions, then it’s fully deserved.

I wish Goodwin would let fly at times….

He have the players a bit of a cook at qtr time of Gather Round V Essendon. It was very mild but still animated by Goodwin’s standards.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
