Do I go out on a limb and say McDonald comes in for JVR to play that tall forward role?

On a scale of 1 to Nick Daicos, JHF is about a 7 on the whiney cry baby scale.

Are you sure about that, the Port team in general are A grade sooks.

Hey Binman, just wondering what your interpretation is when someone is outta form, does that mean not many touches or a small defender taking on the most dangerous small forwards in the AFL(some are all Australian)and I would say, hasn't been beaten yet

Sorry, don't follow DD.

That goal kicking machine again gets a gig, as does his sidekick!

Viney is the perfect matchup for Butters. He is easily Port's best player. If we can curtail him we'll be in good shape.

Oliver will go to JHF at centre bounces and I think Rivers will cover him when he drifts forward.

Melksham to try and stop Aliir's intercept work while hopefully Petty has enough talent over Ratugolea. This might be JvR's opportunity to get some form against a lesser opponent in Zerk-Thatcher.

You'd think May, Lever and Turner can cover Georgiades and a resting Sweet pretty comfortably.

Yea he's good. But I think people have forgotten that Petty was one of best before being moved. As good as Turner I think. Probably better

He set up our 21 flag down back.

People have short memories.

Not saying you are forgetting.

And surely between May ( who proved on Monday that he is out best) or at least finally back to it, and with Lever getting slowly better is pretty damn strong .I mean you have to admit Lever in the past has been one of the best in the comp. And he's not over the proverbial hill. So if he returns like May did. People have forgotten Lever too. Then those three are the best choice.

And Tmac to use as well.

And yeah you have to play on form except in the case of dropping Tmac......you also have to consider our fwd line form.

I don't see why it's so hard to see that the latter has been the weak link. So roll the dice.

Season probably over and we may just discover a new fwd line that dominates.

We all have favorites but I'm just looking at the facts.

And Turner has only really played cameos fwd so we haven't really seen what he can do which I really feel would be a lot.

Especially if he had as much time in the role Petty has or even half of it.

And at he end of the day it really is fwd lines that win games not back lines, no matter how water tight they are.

And for those who dispute this claim look at the pies games and a plethora of others.

How many times have we dominated the i50s count and lost compared to other teams.

Can we all at least admit our fwd line is broken and something needs to change?

Surely.

No. Its much better to try the same thing over and over and over again and hope it just works consistently.

JVR is no thin weakling why was he so poor as a forward. He will no doubt play against port as we wait for Johnson to finish his suspension. If you think Jefferson could not do better on monday then will he ever?

JVR had 8 disposals 3 marks 3 tackles from 60% TOG

Petty had 9 disposals 3 marks 2 tackles from 75% TOG

Don't expect Tommy to ever suit up forward again.

It's not happening

Edit.... not that I would complain Dr

Flops just like Fischer McAsey get it in!

Interesting looking at that provisional team and wondering who might come out if Viney gets up. Seems like only a few weeks ago there were so many players in horrendous form, you could have chosen ten. Not now.

I like the idea of Viney spending much more time forward, so it may be Tholstrup.

Petty is not a forward JVR is. Half of JVR is time was in the ruck which is where most of those starts came from. As a KPF this year his form at senior level and Casey has been poor. It's so poor Johnson has been prefered to him.

A little bit of devil's advocate here* - but if we have four quality key defenders playing well enough to be in the team, and only three spots, you play the best forward of them forward.

Over their career, that's TMac but right now it's Turner. Yes he may be our best defender at the moment.... but that may also make him our best option to play forward.

JVR out, TMAC in and Turner takes JVR's place.

I actually don't think Petty's doing too badly.... it would be a lot better though if he kicked the goals!

* Don't think this will actually happen.

Dr I just looked at the long list team. I don't think there will be any change to last week's team. Possibly Viney in but who would know about his injury. The club posts have been all smoke and mirrors for the last month so who would know his real fitness to play.

That makes 2 of us. The only possible change IMO would be Viney but is his hand / brain ok? Who knows certainly not me.

The limb is very thick

It'll never probably occur but I'd love to see what Lever could accomplish as a floating half forward. Similar to how Tmac played forward.

We'll never know.

Same here but his stellar performance against the pies( It was the May of old) has made me second guess myself.

Our backline is getting on a bit . It's another reason to move Petty back there as he will play a pivotal role in our future. He's been in the job for well over a year now and he hasn't locked it away. Not by a long shot.

Petty can do some ruck duties as well.

I'm hoping so much Jvr improves. I still think he will.

This season is pretty much a bust now so let's use it to sort out some position experiments.

We have May or Disco to try fwd. Disco has shown promise in the role but hasn't really had a decent amount of time in the position.

Obviously we need to lure two more big key forwards somehow before next season. Or one and a player that can ruck.l

There are a few delists coming up for sure.

I think there's not much point moving May now because he's at the end of his career so it really only leaves Disco.

Is Disco a better defender than Petty? I don't know. I do remember how good Petty used to be as a defender.

But can we at least try swapping Petty and Turner for the rest of the season?

Surely Turner would be a better fwd than Petty.

We have more to gain than lose in this.

Our fwd line has been broken for so long and credit to Goody for sticking with Jvr and trying Jeffo but this has to be an avenue to explore.

Can we do a poll on this?

I'm going to . I'll take the flack.

Jefferson should not be considered after his last horrible AFL game until he plays well against at least one decent VFL team imo

He can’t ruck so won’t be taking JVR’s spot. Although JVR is not far behind Jeffo in playing poorly. AJ will be back in for JVR next week unless he plays well

Hopefully he will take Melksham' s role in a few years...probably less...and locks in down for twelve.

Assuming Viney's finally in, it will be interesting whether they go the obvious out in Howes or whether they want Windsor to have a full game at Casey this week to regain some form and confidence.

Windsor announced himself as a serious talent at this exact game/oppo/venue early last year with that phenomenal goal left of screen.

I'm not sure that Howes is the "obvious out" given Viney and Howes play very different roles. I do agree that Howes is one of the options, but I could also see Lindsay being "managed" (he looked tired last week) or Windsor being omitted on form.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
