What has Kolt done at Casey, nothing!!!

Laurie has been really good at Casey & deserves A FULL GAME!!!!!

Unfortunately true

The one thing I would say is that while AFL is faster than VFL there is often more space at AFL level. The jury is out on Tholstrup.

My recent watch has been Culley. Maybe

Still waiting for that poster to ask everyone else if they personally knew the two thugs in question. Won’t hold my breath though 🙄

Both Jeffo and JVR to be inclusions for Monday IMO

One recognised forward ain't going to fill the scoring bill; Jeffo is primed to improve, get stronger, impact a game or two and rise to the occasion. Interestingly, based on the comments of our Casey coach, there are a few players notably in this circle and if this is a development year, it is time overdue to bring them to the fore.

Is it the club’s fault Dogga left?

Is it the club’s fault Max and Grundy couldn’t work together?

Is it the club’s fault TC was brought in but hasn’t been used for what the club had intended for him?

Don’t think TC is anything except break glass in emergency stopgap.

Pity Grundy didn’t work out.

Interesting this weekend that Madden (GWS), O’Keefe (CAR), and maybe Steene (COL) having debuts. Verrall usually beats these guys convincingly.

If we do not try the younger players when they could be ready, we will be left same as last year when Max was injured – TC might do a hamstring again, JVR/Petty will be left to get smashed in the clearances.

We don’t need to bring in a Brownlow medallist, just someone who can play their role so that JVR/Petty/AJ/some other poor bastard doesn’t need to get sacrificed, and the team balance is maintained.

While we are here, Jeffo should’ve been tried out last year. IMO he could be a similar but better player than Morris (BRI). Morris’ slight frame did not hurt him last year. Players who know how to find space in the forward line do not need to be built like brick [censored] houses.

And Sesto…

Back then you'd have to fight fire with fire and Grinter was our fire during that era and we loved him for it.
I remember one day out at Waverly and Brereton cleaned up Dean Chiron at the opening bounce.
It was Grinter who had him looking over his shoulder as he was the only player we had that Brereton was intimidated by.

But here's a few biffs and bumps from our choir boys back in the day.

Yeah every team had an enforcer that could go out and either ruffle a few feathers or stick up for s teammate in need.

Obviously times have changed but it simply was the norm back then.

Grinter was defnitiley no choir boy. But Danny Hughes? I dont recall any behind play incidents.

Matthews would quietly sneak up from, while the ball was 100 m away, and king hit. I saw him do it to Stephen Smith.

That was 1 of about 10 behind the plays from Matthews. He was and probably still is 1 sick puppy.

Watching the Casey Demons match last week I was struck by Koltyn's performance. Up to 3/4 time it was fairly even contest and during this phase of the game his performance was a cut above the ruck. His extended cameo during the third qt. made me literally sit up and think who is this bloke? He acted as the play maker, winning the ball as it came out of defence. His distribution with clean disposal forward of centre had a dynamic edge to it.

Jai Culley had a four quarter game, he used his height and strength both to defend and gain possession. Surprisingly his disposals were 80% effective. Admittedly like Kolt his late pre-season was effected by injury. It was good to witness the dramatic improvement in his field kicking and kicking for goal as the season has progressed.

King's Birthday against the pies will be a baptism of fire for forever gets the selection nod. I'm confident whoever represents the club will make a positive impact come Monday.

So, because I mentioned the name of one thug, that means I consider everyone else to be choir boys?

Pretty sure Danny might’ve been a choir boy🤔

Or maybe not?

Hughes wasn't dirty but here he is letting BT know what's up.
Quickly followed by some of Grinters choir boy antics.

Interesting. Could it be a deliberate tactic rather than plain old nastiness? Perhaps a forced delay to stop the oppo playing quickly is of more use these days than a 50m penalty deep in defence which give time for opponents to organise, so it's worth the risk of a 50m.

Sure, it's a tactic to slow up play and enable the filth to set up defensively. But the point is he is allowed to get away with it, mainly, I suspect because the umpires are cowed by the Collingwood mob in full voice, as they were last week when the Hawks were on the receiving end.

Stuff he is excused over would see our blokes punished every time. Count on it.

Hughes and Grinter only ever collected opponents in contests in my experience. Matthews routinely dropped blokes behind play. Just ask Stephen Smith. Or Peter Giles.

Matthews was seriously messed in the head.

The king hit on Smith by Matthews was disgusting and he should have been charged by the police. The Giles one was only slightly less disgusting.

Great footballer but absolute thug.

I was at that game. The worst thing I've ever seen on a football field.

It was a smart coaching move by Barass to put Smith on Matthews, who was basically playing as a full forward.

Normally Matthews had defenders on him roughly the same size but he'd was just too good one on one. Smith was taller obviously and was giving Matthews a comeyebath.

So Matthews hit him, from behind IIRC - certainly Smith didn't see it coming.

Lost all respect for Matthews that day. Still infuriates me the esteem he is held in.

I was there with my brother who worked for the club back then. I was still yelling and talking in Capitals 3 days later! (It's why I understand Picket Fence)

I was there too.

Smith was selected in the Interstate side for the big V and after Matthews cowardly knocked him out with a king hit from behind and he was carried off on a stretcher unconscious, he missed the state game the next week.

I am pretty friendly with Steven and he was the first interview I did in the magazine I started for the club called Demons World and then I moved his admission in the Supreme Court, as a Solicitor, a couple of years later.

The guys around me wanted to kill Matthews after he hit Smith.

Matthews years later got charged by the Police for assault, after knocking out Neville Bruns, with another cowardly king hit at Geelong.

Yeah, that game drove me crazy.
It wasn't just Long.
We allowed the resident Essendon thug Wallace run around belting our youngest players in the 1st qtr and did nothing.
We all knew what they'd do as they'd been doing it for 15yrs and our players seemed surprised.
Insipid response.

Here's a great article on the physical damage Dermot Brereton did to his body playing football. Can't help but think what we are doing to Max allowing him to play with limited support.

Hawthorn great and media commentator Dermott Brereton has graphically described how he cannot put his shoes and socks on, and struggles to walk down stairs or shake hands on some days, due to the severe physical toll of playing football.

In a powerful speech at the Melbourne Cricket Club, Brereton, who played in a famously combative style, detailed how his present life was impacted by injuries, how he struggled to sleep due to shoulder pain and that he was still feeling the impact of taking anti-inflammatory medications for four decades.

How can you possibly correlate Dermie with Max. For a start the high performance team & all the bells & whistles that go with it were just not available in Dermies era as is the post match recovery they do today. When Max is too sore/not fit ..he will take himself out. He is coming to the end of his career and it wouldn’t serve his longevity if he’s constantly playing under duress. I mean there wouldn’t be a player out there who is not carrying something ..

Apologies, Sir. I thought you were talking about tomorrow.

I don’t attend training at Casey. Perhaps you could ask Picket Fence why he wasn’t there today.

Didn't know it was on due to the sensational club supporter liason message system which is just out of this world and state of the art communique's.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
