balta avoids gaol term, but has a 10pm curfew for 3 months - rules him out of night matches

He's lucky. He could have killed that guy.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but how do I upgrade my ga tickets to reserved for this game?

Imagine if he started and got subbed out for the curfew, the app would be like

Balta - Substituted (Curfew)

haha

guaranteed that they will appeal, try and get an exception for work

Is that likely to be resolved by Thursday night?

The magistrate is clearly a Melbourne supporter - played it well.

I would be staggered if the AFL and the courts haven't come to an arrangement that allows Balta to play night games due to plying his trade.

They did try that:

His lawyer asked the court for an exception to this ruling to allow Balta to play scheduled night and interstate matches.

Richmond has two scheduled night matches in that period including Thursday's Anzac eve clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

Magistrate Humphrey told the court the curfew was a punitive element and said Balta would be required to make changes to his employment to fit the sentence.

Tackles are just one element of pressure.

JVR, who by the by is a jet, was probably dropped for form more than his lack of pressure, but nonetheless still has poor in that regard. Friiter's form was poor AND his pressure was hopeless

Round one

  • JVR: 30

  • Fritter: 29

Round two

  • JVR: 20

  • Fritter: 11

Round three

  • JVR: 19

  • Fritter: 23

Round four

  • JVR: 19

  • Fritter: 20

Round five

  • JVR: 17

  • Fritter: 28

Thus far this season, JVR is averaging 21 pressure points and Fritter 22.2

By way of comparison, our other forwards season averages are:

  • Chandler 38.2

  • Koz 33.7

  • Sparrow 33.5

  • Spargo 23.5 (note: includes a game as sub, he had 33 pressure points against Freo)

  • Melksham 18

JVR a jet! On a 1950's Canberra bomber. Sorry binman IMO he is an average KPF. Dropped to Casey and barely justified his position in the team.

No he won’t, that would leave him liable to a possible heavier penalty on appeal.

He would be mad to Appeal.

An Appeal in Court, after a Guilty plea, allows for a reduced penalty, increased penalty, or original penalty confirmed.

He will be thrilled with his penalty, which avoided jail. What’s missing a couple of footy matches, when avoiding prison?

I notice the Casey game against Richmond is at 11 am on Thursday. 11 AM on a working day???? Still i guess it is the VFL so I should not be surprised.

C'mon OD, surely you know progress is not linear for young players, particularly for key forwards. Kids a jet.

Time will tell I hope you are correct, I just don't see it.

Howes only in because of May. If May is fit, he is in and Howes is out. McVee in for Turner. Clearly Howes is ahead of Adams in selection committee minds. Only change to that is if we need more height, then Adams in

the only other consideration is Jeffo in for another tall target FWD. Does re replace Melk?

Presumably, that's where Balta plays on Thursday. He should be grateful it's there rather than a ground at a correctional facility.

Going off the insta story Steven May looks fine to play this Thursday

Even if the magistrate took into account the effects on his employment, he isn’t in danger of losing his job, isn’t being impeded to work outside of those hours at all (which is the vast majority of his working hours), loss of income will have no material negative impact on any dependants and in the case of convicted drunk drivers, losing your employment (a fairly common outcome) is never a valid reason to not lose your licence.

There is zero reasonable arguments that a 3 month curfew is too punitive. It’s at most inconvenient, which is the point.

Main training today I presume? Any track watchers?

And it's not like he's losing income if he doesn't play.

They need to send a message. He's a public figure.

Not sure if you have heard but Melksham had to go to hospital as the cut on his leg got infected, so got cleaned out and re-stitched.

May not come up in time give only 5day break?

There was some vision on the midday news from Casey with a caption ‘ May to return’

Guessing that was from this morning

Well that’s it, I think it’s only lower paid/contracted players that receive match day payments too, which Balta wouldn’t be on, so there’s virtually zero financial impact to him.

McVee and May confirmed ins
