I'm personally confused why he was dropped in the first place. This is why I have my gripe on Goodwin.

We all know he's been in a rut the last few weeks but I thought last week he finally showed some form and was able to hit the scoreboard.. like a good forward does.

Goodwin said in his presser the other week that he wanted to see some improvement from a defensive aspect from Fritsch game and yet he went out and laid 5 tackles against the Bombers.

Meanwhile Tom Sparrow for instance stays in the team after he was getting soundly beaten by Merrett in the first quarter so they dropped the tag and barely touched the ball for the rest of the night.

I'm sure Bayley and his family would be just as confused as some of us are.

Fritsch’ 5 tackles was equal to his previous best return since the beginning of 2023 season. Goodwin talking down the khyber.

They are a tall side - 10 players 190cm and above. Long bombing ain’t gonna work this week ( not that it’s worked any other week either).

I read this a lot.

First of all, if you think the flag was "lousy", I can't help you - that's on you. It was, for me and I dare say the majority of Melbourne supporters, the complete opposite.

But out of interest, how many of us do you think would have actually got a ticket to the G on Grand Final day?

For starters those with a guaranteed ticket as part of their membership.

I sure as hell would have been there to see it in the flesh if not for covid TU but it was still glorious from 3,000km away.

I have a feeling that the competing teams each get around 17,000 tickets which excluding glory hunters, fair weathers and everyone that surely wouldn't have gone because of our boring game style is about right for us.

I’ve a question…

So, Fritta’s been named as an emergency meaning he has to be at the ‘G for the firsts, right?

He’s been told he’s in the Casey side playing at Casey Fields in a match that starts at 11:05am tomorrow.

Yesterday morning when he was told he’s been dropped he was told he’d be playing a half at Casey.

Does this mean he’ll leave Casey Fields at halftime and head to the ‘G before the start of the seniors match?

If so, is that something that happens regularly?

That’s actually three questions, but what’s an extra couple o’ questions between friends?

Four questions now. 😅

It’s not like he works so hard he’d be tired 🤓

You're too close to the club on a personal level your judgement is clouded.

Will you be laughing when we're 0 and 10 and merely content with sharing pleasantries with the players at training or do you yearn for being taken seriously by the football world?

I don’t think any of us are pleased about where the club’s at right now, but all the “yearning” in the world isn’t going to change much. Some will choose to try and enjoy whatever the day brings, and others will choose to tie themselves in knots. Unfortunately this season is a write-off, and once you accept that, things will get a bit easier.

It may well be what he meant but it’s NOT what he said. You can’t expect a comment like that to remain unaddressed.

Incidentally, I don’t think that’s what he meant at all. I think by “one lousy flag” he meant it was a lousy flag because it wasn’t followed by more flags, and it has little to do with where it was played. You’ve just furnished him with an excuse.

#FreudianVibesAplenty

Yes Ghosty, I dont need excuses but that is exactly what I was trying to say. 1 flag only with this group of players is just totally unacceptable! You know where the buck stops, but the coach is stubborn AND probably really doesn't know what to do next!

If it were me I'd be playing Jeffo, Sestan, Laurie, Brown, Culley, Verrall for the next 6-10 weeks come whatever may, to ascertain who forms our future from 2026. Also Id play Campbell as Max;s ruck partner and play Max more forward. Other than that the following players are not our future and are lucky to be getting games Petty, Viney, Sparrow, Spargo and Melksham, but you just know they will play rain, hail and shine!

Thanks. I told Mrs Fritta I’d find out what the go is. Actually, it’s hard for his fam. They’re going to Casey to support him (including 12-day-old son, Noah) and now they’ll have to pack up everything and everyone at halftime to head over to the ‘G. I guess they don’t have to be there right on time for the first bounce since it’s highly unlikely that Fritta will be out on the field at that time, but now that I’ve said it…

😬😳

One more question, or rather, an opinion…

Do you think Fritta will be put back in the firsts next week, or more importantly, the week after (vs Eagles in Perth)?

He’ll probably know whether he’ll be used before he leaves for the G. Sometimes not, but usually they’ll have an idea.

Ghosty has her view you have yours, No need to disparage her views. Yes she is close to players etc, No need for anything more.

Things could always be worse.

I had a dream last night that I was called up to play.

I was sitting barefoot on an old couch at a share house with Clary and Trac giving me advice.

I need to stop reading Demonland before bed.

I just want milk that tastes like real milk. And forwards leading to the ball carrier. And said ball carrier kicking it to the advantage of that leading player.

Just fundamental Aussie rules football stuff ya know? Not even elite, just fundamental.

I feel like I’m at my local, asking for a pint of beer and the barman is like ‘oooooft, unmmm yeah look, we don’t actually do glasses here, best I can do is a dinner plate or beer’

'Yearn go be taken seriously by the football world'?

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on dl. Brilliant.

By the by, I yearn to take the football world seriously.

Alert, if you are coming in by train and are on the PAKENHAM or CRANBOURNE line guess what?? Yep as per usual Buses Replace trains from sections. Why does this keep occuring???

Starting to think Greg Stafford was made a scapegoat. Our forward craft was much better with him in charge despite well known deficiencies but now our forward line has been confirmed as being populated with donkeys.

unsure why our backline coach was sent to the forwards and we brought in someone new, bassett is fine but i think he is more suited to be an assistant coach then a line coach

Anyway I'll go to Casey to watch and you can expect an insightful report, stuff going to the G!

Being a Casey watcher, could you explain to me what Laurie is doing wrong to not even get a look in as an emergency when the seniors midfield is totally out of form & fitness?

Thanks

As in the last four weeks Clint?

Multiple annoying posts saying things like “if I’m Simon Goodwin”, “if I’m JVR”, etc.

You should know if you are.

Or perhaps posters mean, “if I were Simon Goodwin”, etc.

How about we pay at least some attention to grammar?

Call me a pedant if you wish, but I find it annoying.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road for their 3rd interstate game in 4 weeks as they face a fit and firing Crows at Adelaide Oval. With finals now out of our grasps what are you hoping from the Dees today?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.
