I see parts of the media want to see fritta suspended for that tunnelling act.

Not defending him because it was absolutely stupid but what would he be charged under? A dangerous act?

Presumably no mention of Danger's (worse) tunnel in the 4th?

For those that don’t think the head coach pulls the strings. Do you really think a line coach (Chaplin) would say “ I’ve got an idea, take my half forward to push up and tag Holmes. We’ll play one short…..we’ve got this”

All for the tag but to give them the plus one then not have a plan going forward knowing they had a plus one by having decoy runners or blocks, an overload on a side of the ground to create space to lead into or a short option at the 40 metre mark ie the player originally on Holmes. It’s unforgivable. You don’t get points for winning the inside 50 count on a weekly basis.

Don’t get me started on allowing an illegal amount of uncontested possession. Unforgivable. Go man on or a split zone or something. I really want to be respectful given that he has delivered us a premiership. He is not the person to take us forward. No reaction to what the game and opposition is giving us during the game. He has too much faith in the system or method even if it is not working and unfortunately it will stamp his papers.

Richmond would have gone through this with Hardwick.

There comes a time in any workplace when you've done a decade and it's time to move to a new environment and learn new things.

The sooner we cut the cord, the better.

I'd rather try Chaplin (or another assistant)for half a season or more and give them a fair crack at turning things around.

The writing is on the wall and delaying it until the end of the season damages the players and the club.

At the game last night it looked like Geelong were more committed to covering ground, spreading and providing options than us. As usual our midfield / forward connection was a hot mess. I don't want to think it but if Roo stays on this trajectory he's well on the way to being Weid 2.0

As my first night game down there it was a nice experience (outside the result). It's a nice stadium close to the centre of town and the natives were friendly. Nice weather. Had Hobart vibes. I somehow managed to buy our GA tickets for the wrong end of the ground but worked out that you can walk all the way around the Moorabool Street side to the other end. Their bahn mi rolls are rubbish though.

Swap Van Rooyen for a key forward who can hold his marks, and Petty for someone who can defend without giving away stupid frees, and we win that.

In spite of everything, we are generating enough I50's ... only to see it come straight out again.

Yes on.both counts

JVR not doing it...enough chances.

Petty is a one trick pony..Can hold a few marks ..when he's on but TOO SLOW and can read the play

Just sitting outside listening to Goodie’s post-match media conference and a 🐍 came slithering by.

Is it the devil’s work?

One negative which can actually turn into a positive is Fritta and Kozzie kicking 0.6 between them. Kick 4.2 instead of 0.6 and we’re losing by 17 points in a highly respectable loss. And let’s face it some of those misses both boys eat for breakfast normally.

Both players average just under 3 scoring shots a game in their career , which was pretty much bang on last night. If next week both players are having 3 scoring shots each, I’d venture a guess we’d be getting at least a 3 goals 3 behind outcome between the both of them.

It’s completely unsustainable for the opposition to rely on Fritta and Kozzie to continually miss goals, and therefore scoreboard pressure will start to turn around from the MFC.

What about the sitters the Cats missed? Kick those and we lose by 60. We were embarrassed, the Cats had a world record number of marks when everyone knows keeping the ball off them virtually guarantees you a win. That’s on the coach, plain and simple.

Apart from not being able to:

Stick tackles, create space, defend fast transition, hold possession for more than 3 in a chain, take intercept marks, kick goals, hit up teammates, get a break from umps, get effective clearances we are doing pretty well.

Still think I’ll get $10 on Dees and Blues to make finals if I can figure out how to do it - doesn’t seem to be a popular bet.

They have always played that game style Roost it, chipping around in the backline waiting for a loose man but we used to be able to score on turn over so it didn’t matter that they always had a stack of uncontested possessions and marks. What I don’t understand is why can’t we revert to a more close checking game plan when required to close them down allowing opponents to have 17 uncontested marks is ludicrous.😁👍

It's almost like we have a bunch of players who aren't playing well and a bunch of players who may not be quite up to it.

Omg I had the exact same experience - uncanny. Minus the rolls. I had a hot dog. It was identical to the G: barely resembling food.

That's because everything served up at sporting venues is ultra processed garbage masquerading as food. The "bahn mi" was a long slice of microwaved pork in a hot dog roll with two chili slices and no Vietnamese fish sauce. Criminal.

Sportsbet currently have it as a multi with pigs flying backwards.

G-Town is great, love the town and the people. Lived there for 5 years (some time ago). I could see Kardinia Park from my balcony when i lived there (Newtown represent 😁). I used to watch the Cats there occasionally when I didn't drive up the freeway to Princes Park, 3054. Never really developed an affection for the Cats (unlike the Dees) but have no hatred of them and respect what they have done over the last few decades. Sheets me how successful they have become and how much of a rabble my once proud mob have become in that time but its mostly self inflicted so can't complain too much 😁

Yeah, I imagine it would be a great little place for a young family. The waterfront area looked great in the sunshine yesterday. I feel the same about the cats. I like the novelty aspect of them being the only team based in a country town (well, maybe the Adelaide sides too) but think they have a cråp song and colours.

Fair point. But Geelong were still more accurate than us.

And you don’t have to convince me of the coach’s shortcomings at the moment.

Petracca was devastated after the siren.

He had a very similar repose during/after some games last year ( before his jury )

He knows there's very little support out there. But that said he can be just as guilty of burning his team mates.... a very ( sadly ) Melbourne thing atm.

There is sfa vision exhibited by many players whose experience suggest they ought to know better.

I totally get his frustrations

Anyone else notice that we aren’t even coping it in the media?

People expect more of North and the bombers than us.

We are bottom 4 trash and everyone knew it but us

Wholesale changes -starting now.

If West Coast can keep the margin to around a 4 goal loss to GWS then we’ll be stone motherless last after a month of footy.

We’re also win and percentage behind a team that was talked about as possibly going 0-23 this year.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
