If Fullerton keeps getting 2 to 3 goals at Casey I think they should try him too.

Agree Max needs someone to share the load. If Campbell can come in, playing Geelong would be the game to try it, as they are still working out their ruck situation...

Seems like Fullarton would need to kick 10 for Goodwin to be remotely interested.

And based on the non-selection of TC this weekend or last weekend (against the big body ruckman in Witts and Xerri) it also seems like Goodwin will never play 2 rucks again

Have tickets and meeting my demon cousin and his 2 cat supporting daughters who live in Geelong - not expecting a fun drive home.

Hopefully I can find some positivity between now and Friday

Out:

McDonald - he's good, but not needed

Johnson - I get it to an extent, but tell me what he brings beyond "mongrel"?

Lindsay - inj

Howes - can't carry a fumbly defender who can't kick

Sparrow - its time. He is pointless. He may be marginally less worse than Billings, but at least Billings can run a bit.

Windsor - obviously

Pickett - obviously

Lever - I have him as line ball with TMac right now, but inclined to pick him. He seems to have a job for life even though he's been poor by his own lofty standards for a long time

Turner - have to reward five goals in the VFL

Laurie - deck chairs, but maybe this is the year?

Thin ice - Fritsch, Salem, JVR, Henderson

Going against my own credo here by playing JVR, Turner, Fritsch and Melksham in the same fwd line. Too tall. But only because of the lack of options. JVR to play 30% ruck and get his hands on the ball.

Starting midfield of Oliver, Rivers, Langford.

Viney to pressure forward.

OUT?? FRITSCH FFS HAS TO GO! JVR ON NOTICE!,HOWES NOT UP TO IT, JOHNSON BARELY VFL STANDARD

BUT in better news the Ressies play a curtain raiser at 3.50. Pretty logical thinking for once from this " Basket Case" of a competition!

Chris Scott did a very similar press conference tonight to the 2021 prelim with respect to not revealing potential excuses to the loss.

I wonder if he was referring to the humidity you pointed out.

So Geelong have gone from having a bye and being fresh into this week (per the original fixture) to now coming off a 6 day break in punishing humidity.

Not that it matters in the scheme of things…:

Interesting that if the Geel/Bris game had not been rescheduled, we would have faced a team coming off a bye 3 weeks in a row.

Great even scheduling!!

Five goals for Turner in VFL today.

Could replace any of our forward flops, especially Fritsch.

But he has to play as "The Spearhead".

Team looks better already. Maybe even throw some players around and make the Cats run post humidity game

Whether we win or lose is up to you. Don’t let us down.

But seriously, god speed.

Actually I’m down in Geeeelong for work that day. Hmm. Maybe I should go.

ESPECIALLY FRITSCH...Time for a long spell at Casey. Make him earn it.

Unaccountable footy up the field. Not willing to chase early or chase much at all.

Doesn't look match fit. Zero intensity at the contest (alot of mates).

Did a few good things but he is VFL level at best at present.

Speaking of which. Petracca's accountability on Miller at stages of that third quarter was non-existent. Miller running amok had a field day whenever Tracc matched up on him.

And he's supposed to be a senior in the team setting examples. Jokefest.

Not alone but pathetic effort / attitude without the ball today.

How the hell are we at game three and seemingly un prepared in so many facets...

Fitness...many looked shot by about 5 minutes or so into the 3rd!

Intensity at the ball

Accountability without the ball

Work rate without the ball in the first three quarters

Skills by hand and foot (eg; Howes, Max, Viney, Tracc & Rivers) in the first three Qs.

Viney's kicking coming inside 50 and disposal in general is deeplorable 🤮

Where is Lingers at? Just no impact and kicking to the wrong spots, fumbles, panic turnover king.

Rivers... see Lingers

Rooh....yeh nah

Still unable to ice a quarter, giving up a goal in the last few seconds before three Q time.

Stacks more wrong with this club at present.

Whatever happened at Bright, these players have seemingly exited as not happy campers.

it has not had any positive effect at all on the field and has seemingly had the opposite effect.

The energy in the group appears to be one of being resolved to another hard day at the office before the first bounce!

Potential Positives (some of these probably not positives, just not as negative as the really shizen negatives above)....

️LANGFORD

Tracc with ball in hand at times in second half. His goal around the body in the third.

Bowey in the first half and parts of the second.

Sharp getting on the end of a few

Clarry's second half ....better. Not a great first half but seen worse and plenty were worse.

Maxy in general. Two of the worst games in succession i think i've seen him play since making it to the top. Has age finally caught up with the great man? Is Campbell an option as an assist or do we even consider rotating Max out every third week or so if he can't cope?

Billings not bad or good either but what is his role?

Salo... still involved but what does he bring? Has the game gone past him?

Having May back

Petty did ok in patches

T-Mac ok in the first half aside from the awful 45 attempt in the 2nd Q which he should never ever try to pull off. Turns the ball over with those almost always.

Changes.... Where do you start!

Turner a must IN for Fritsch this week if Goody has any integrity at selection

I'd also bring Campbell in and play Max off the bench with alot less game time in general. Max is so far off the level he can't go for more than a quarter or so with his oppo at present.

Hey Dr Doolittle

This is a pretty harsh assessment but I think it's pretty fair at the same time.

My only beef being Salo who I think has been consistent in every game who has often found a teammate on the receiving end of just about every disposal and mostly by his skill in kicking.

Other than that it's probably an honest bell weather of what's to come down there at alphabet stadium.

Fritta being the main change for me too. Yes at least he got his hands on it more but didn't fire a single goal.

He is so lacking in confidence , my 19 year old son could give him a run for let's be honest here.....very high money.

If only we could bring in a commission style salary for our forwardd where they get paid according to number of goals kicked. A base salary of course otherwise most would starve to death.

And bonus cash to mids who find teammates with their double overhead, look away and backwards handballs.

Cheers.

You’re a trooper. I too unfortunately was at 186. I also was at VFL Park as a young boy and witnessed 190, which surely should qualify me for life membership of the football club. I can confirm that I will not be going for the 3 peat on Friday. Good Luck.

Incentive based compensation Deevs. I like. I'm not sure anyone inside 50 would enjoy it much besides Koz and possibly Chin on occasions though!

Salo has been solid agreed. Especially his first two games where i thought he was more adventurous and damaging with ball in hand.

Against the Suns i just felt we needed alot more in terms of taking the game on eg; looking for and finding a few more targets (or to their favoured side) forward of the ball & stoppage.

This aspect of his game appeared (in my eyes) to drop away from his work in the first two weeks.

His meters gained over the three rounds tending to support this drop away.

Salo's Meters Gained to Rnd 3, 2025

Vs the Giants 616*

Vs North 305

Vs the Suns 241

*Most meters gained from either team

Thanks mate.

I'm never one to be pedantic on this site because I know my spelling and grammar is probably the worst.

I do have to draw the line somewhere. While both used in the English vocabulary, meter is predominantly used in the U S of A and metre is more in the UK and it's dominions, so to speak. Like NZ and here in Oz, the greatest country in the world by mega metresl.

I’m actually going to this game.

What the hell is wrong with me?

For what it is worth or not FTB, I thought we would loose the last 2 games, but I think we will win this one. Speed returning.

Nothing. Well it's the kind of impossible upset win you'd want to witness first hand. I remember Brayshaw having his first BOG and Gawn announcing himself when we did it back in 2015. Looking back a decade on, how many of us were fortunate enough to see it because of the painstaking effort made to venture up the highway to Mordor? Not me

He was pick 68.

The fact he’s played at all means the pick wasn’t a “blunder”.

The next 6-8 weeks will tell a lot about the leaders at this club. Do they want to drag this group forward or are they going to leave it to our young guns.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
