    Our one paced midfield allergic to speed and 2 way running up against:

    Anderson, Rowell,  Humphrey, Weller, Dempsey, Atkins, Smith, Holmes and even Knevit who’s looking to be a seriously good player. Not even counting the older heads Dangerfield, Miller and Blicavs who’ll roll through.

    Yeah, yeah, actions speak louder than words. The Romans even said as much 2000 years ago and we all get it. I'm not panicking as much as some on here but I know eventually Melbourne have to play better and must improve. I still think Goody, and other coaches,  would rather be spending their time away from these PR exercises. Knock his poor coaching decisions but shrug off the rest of this which ultimately is not what a coach is

    Watched it last night. 

    Most of you have covered it off fairly well.

    One thing that stood out to me and a good lesson to be learnt for the usual suspects on here that continue to sprout how good our environment and culture is on and off field. Matter of fact is, it hasn't been.. 

    Goody actually confessed that there were a lot of internal issues going on inside the club with players and staff from about late 2022 to 2023, which then spilled into last year. Its why as he said, "Petracca didn't feel loved" 

    His last answer to the question was awkward only because i do take into account it was filmed weeks prior to round one. Hamish asked, "what do we expect from Melbourne of 2025?" And Goody said something along the lines of 'Players being happy out on the MCG, smiling and loving what they're doing'. There was no reference whatsoever to change in game plan or adjusting our ball movement etc etc.

    My immediate thought was obviously seeing the complete opposite last Sunday with players looking completely bereft of confidence and dejected. 

    I'm actually annoyed with the timing of this being shown last night instead of a few weeks backs. You seriously couldn't pick a worse time.

    So basically what you are all suggesting is don’t show your vulnerability or admit your mistakes or recognise when someone is coming out of a s..T full year that has seriously tested the club and the person holding the bag. It’s just about the wins and talking tough and no one really cares about the issues that the coach and playing group were going through, it’s not just the media everyone is the critic. Shut up Goody take it like a man just get us wins that all we care about.

    l don't sign up to the theory we have been terrible last 3 years even with the finals exits. We were banged up in one finals series and in the other we kicked poorly in front of goals which happens to everyone from time to time. If you said to me at the start of last season clarry would be unfit and trac would be missing for a large chunk and other injuries, were would we finish? l would have said we would miss finals. 

    Last week and last quarter gws, seriously dumb football by experienced players bombing the ball long, it's been made clear not to do that.

    Thanks Demonland I watched it last night and was aware that it was pre-taped and even though I knew he was going to cop it big time for our last quarter, I still enjoyed the watch. Hamish is a much better interviewer than Gazza who gushes over you when things are going well and ice’s you out when they are not. I must admit that Simon is looking very vulnerable at present and I’m hoping that the playing group step up to support him.

    Fair comments.

    For me it is about balance.  One can be vulnerable but still show strength to at some point move out of the vulnerable stage and show confidence about the future.  I don't mind us being on a journey but it would be good to have a leader with a clear plan who shows confidence in how to get there.

    I suspect Goodwin has that but he isn't talking about it much since the start of the season.

    I don't think there is lack of empathy from posters.  They are just saying that now 3 weeks into the season, it is time to move on from the vulnerable stage.  Or if we haven't moved on best to balance the commentary with confidence in the future without too many platitudes.

    I didn't watch it ... just strongly suspected that it would be another verbal, non-specific con job. It appears from DL comments that it was just that ...

    We have lost our mongrel and team carriage to defeat other contenders, as frequently exposed across the past few seasons.

    We have ignored the potential of some of our past 'greats' to inspire, re-design and establish a consistent, winning culture and intent. We have moved too far from the Demon heritage and mindset. Now, we are soft, contradicting occasional and impressive onfield surges in short bursts (usually in the third quarter of games) and then, merely hanging-on to await the final siren. There are exceptions, of course; there remain, more often, capitulations and disappointments. I really wonder how the likes of Neita, the Ox and Lyon (et al) perceive this situation and analyse the steps in Demon rehabilitation.

    You know when you read the amount of players not playing for personal reasons ..maybe we need to understand the relentless world of media ..trolling ..out of control supporters who pile on all the negative things coaches/players do because lets face it …people seem to like that. It’s really just a game ..we support a club ..we suffer disappointments & we get enjoyment. I get constructive criticism but re Goodwin .. we have a coach that took us to a Premiership..like him/or dislike him ..he is coaching us this year. I don’t want to go back to the instability we had as a club sacking coaches etc. We are 2 games into the season ..let’s see how it plays out..

    The hell are you talking about? Goody and Pert denied there were any issues for ages. Hard to give him credit as a supporter base for being vulnerable now after he wasted our window with his head in the sand. 

    If anyone was saying "just shut up and let wins do the talking" it was the club in 2022-23. Can almost guarantee if we didnt have the year we had last year they'd still be denying any issues.

    sorry BBTD I attended all home games and finals in 2022-2023 we had excellent home series in both years, in 2022 we ran out of forwards due to injury and in 2023 we lost Gus then kicked ourselves out of the final against the Blues, what are you getting at???

    My point was despite winning it was obvious to see for anyone with a brain that the issues with the club started around this time and instead of denying any issues perhaps we should have been a bit more "vulnerable" then before it got to the stage it did last year.

      As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

      Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide.       There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start.
