Point 3: Shifting Langdon from his specialist position on the wing seemed daft before the North game and would be even dafter if persisted with.

Point 4: Spargo looks as if he needs at least a couple of runs in the VFL after such a long layoff.

Don't disagree with you per se, but these are the kinds of moves that they're making to try and update the game style. Langdon on ball to provide more run, Spargo into the side ASAP because he's about the most skilful at getting the ball to an I50 target.

Similar re Pickett getting more time on-ball, Windsor to the back line for more speed off HB and Fritsch further up the ground for his disposal skills - he's a better field kick than any of the current mids.

Pretty obvious that little of that worked on the weekend, and we're missing Pickett (amongst others ...), but I'm expecting them to hang tough with all of the above. Not sure there are any alternatives if we're going to move with the times.

Sure try things but

langdon runs and runs on the wing.

Spargo had no run so couldn’t get it as not match fit

windsor is a wing man in mould of Flower , position set.

Pickett yes, occasion bursts

fritta close to goals is where he plays best and where he will succeed again when he requests a trade

Whilst there is no excusing Fritsch’s lack of defensive efforts, I can’t help but think if he played for the Hawks, Pies, GWS etc he would be on the end of great delivery in space or in one v ones.

Could we try Salem in that role, he’s a good user of the footy by foot but he’s not quick nor is he a long penetrating kick which for me means he’s not best suited across half back. When Windsor is back get him across half back and Salem as the last kick into fwd 50.

With all due respect, we are in Round 3 and I can't see any major strategic changes happening to game style at this point.

Happy for Spargo to remain in the team, he'll get his legs back this way and his kicking will help us.

It is a risky strategy as we saw last week though as the sub/interchange for AFL is a unique beast with only one option etc.

I wonder if there was any plan/idea to give him 3/4 of a game and then sub him out but the early Jeffo injury ruined that plan.

Really, how did GWS forward line function last year when Hogan didn’t fire.

Kingsley would not put up with Fritsch refusal to apply second let alone third efforts at the fall of the ball

He needs to go back to the VFL, give him a few weeks and see if he can rediscover some form.

If he was played one out / with space and had their delivery there wouldn’t be many second or third efforts required.

My gut feel is that he won't. Spotted in crutches after a hospital stay, and the second time dealing with this infection is bad news IMO. Antibiotics are very taxing, in a high performance environment, players need to give 100% to be match fit - giving that 100% makes it much harder to deal with these kind of infections.

If they’re just going to bomb on his head there what’s the point.
People bag Fritsch for not laying tackles, what’s the difference between not laying a tackle and all the ineffective tackles that were laid on Sunday?

I know a couple of players were ill leading up to the game. I’m wondering if something went through the club? Just a thought. Or, we’re just a rabble once again 🤷‍♂️

To be honest, i wondered the same thing.

I doubt tracc has ever had a less impactful game. Didn't look right - ditto a number of other players.

I can’t make it this week but I’m expecting quite the statement from our leaders. A solid win and we’re away.

the obvious lack of energy , not just in the last but all day might confirm this. Hopefully it’s that and nothing more culturally sinister.,

It's more about taking an underperforming player and setting standards for the rest of the list.

He doesn’t just not tackle, he doesn’t get any body contact or apply pressure, the GWS, Pies and Hawthorn forward lines all rely on pressure acts and winning the ground ball game.
Greene, Daniels and Jones

Schulz, Hill and Mcreery

Watson, Moore, Hardwick and Ginnivan

Fritsch wouldn’t last with his work ethic

Delayed onset of a virus caught from the Cats from the 2021 Preliminary Final

Hoping they play both Tom Campbell and Max Gawn this week.

Max Gawn can rest in the forward line and hopefully cause a bit of chaos to Gold Coast's defence.

I expect a massive response by the Demons players this week. They need to come out breathing fire against the Suns.

So if players were ill shouldn’t Goodwin have gone with that rather than Max’s personal life? Considering how close everyone else that’s disappointing.

OUT: Jefferson (inj), Woewodin (omit)

IN: Johnson, Langford

Sub: Sharp
