New coach prospects

Featured Replies

Who would you like to see as our next coach?

Any exciting young coach available?

Discuss. Cheers.

Yeah someone younger who has an attacking mindset, I can't watch this slow boring [censored] anymore, North have been a better team to watch than us.

Goodwin has one coaching style and he has refused to change it for years.

We are boring, we won't get crowds to watch this crud but we will be stuck with him cos the club loves him and they won't sack him.

Barlow had pretty big wraps on him.

Not sure the coach is the problem the list is wrong, the game has shifted from contest and defence to speed, and skills is a must and without kozzy and Windsor we have none of it

Not too sure, but Goodwin has got to go.

Feel like we need a coach that is not all about “lovey dovey” relationships and can give the group a good bake.

Trac will probably again want out, so too Kozzie. Clarry not too sure, none of May, Gawn, Lever or Viney are getting any younger either.

Time to face reality and recognise our time at the top is well and truly over.

Need to move past Viney's and Sparrow's of the world in the midfield first

We have McVee, Rivers can be good.

Start building with the youngsters trade most of the vets, whoever has any value.

And its only Round 2

Play Langford, [censored] it.

Round 2. Should have given Goodwin the big Axe last year

Would have if it was up to me. Players love him apparently. I love anyone who lets me sit on the coach and do nothing and tell me I’m special

Anyone who has a game plan that includes fast ball movement and hires a goal kicking coach.

Thank you for educating me. I didn't know the coach had nothing to do with the list build.

John Longmire please.

Agreed.

The only negative with Longmire is his record on grand final day, but that won’t be an issue for years when it comes to the MFC.

Rebuilt Sydney really well after 2019-2020 and perhaps he can guide us through a rebuild of ours.

Longmire or Simpson

Simpson reeks of Goodwin 2.0, it's a no for me.

Should be more bold and try a new guy like Hawthorn did.

You actually need to have a look at yourself absolutely shizen post, but the way you carried on the game day thread should have picked this.

Shocking loss yes absolutely unacceptable by the players but

Sack the coach and Retire Gawn in Rd 2

I did not say retire Gawn. I want to really think what are we going to do with our veteran players.

Wether you like it or not they won't play forever.

Are we rebuilding?

Do we think we have even a remote chance to compete in the next 3 season?

Look at the way Mitchell has matched his game plan to the skill set his playing group.

Goodwin wants to play a brand of football that his players either can't or won't execute. If he won't change, it is time to go.

Yes we can compete, did you watch last week, did we compete yes.

Gawn was BOG last week

Losing and shocking performances happen.

Seen it before and seen it turn.

You are entitled to your opinion. Hard for me to see us compete (i.e win a final, which we haven't done since September 2021).

I think we are in the cross roads of a potential rebuild. Which is not so bad considering the talent we have collected in the draft the last 3 years.

Goodwin and Tim Lamb have completely butchered our list management.

Fancy offering a cooked Viney a contract extension all because Norf bluffed us.

Completely disheartened with this footy club.

Jaymie Graham. Just like how most credit Yze for our flag, Simpson has had similar praise for Graham as forward coach of West Coast from 2017-19.

Not too sure of his tactical nouse, but even hearing Riewoldt positively speak about him in the past from his time with St Kilda, it may be a risk worth taking.

A young coach with a lot to prove and will no doubt be a refresher to go hand in hand with a restart for the club. Worked with McCrae and Mitchell, so with another year of assistant experience at Fremantle, he would no doubt be better for it should a club like us come calling.

We still have a nucleus of a very good list who are all seriously underperforming.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
