AJ might be suspended and Howes ainโ€™t it IMO. Otherwise Iโ€™m happy for the same squad. Iโ€™m even OK if they give Howes another run given the injuries.ย

Hoping Hore can step up after this week if he performs.

McVee the obvious swap once he's back.

It wont happen but Fritsch could also be considered for a few matches till McVee returns?

But who replaces Fritta?

AJ out as well.ย  Campbell?

I'd like Hore to come in for Howes too, but he's coming back via Casey (mentioned by Selwyn I think).

ย

Can't see Campbell getting a run in place of the suspended AJ.

Roo will get the 2nd ruck duties against Darling

In -Disco and Woewodin

Out - AJ and Howes

Why not 22?ย  While he may not be a direct like for like for AJ the bloke can play some seriously good footy in the ruck and around the ground.

I've seen it first hand against Sandy where he was the difference in them being very good on the day vs just 'ok'.

A great chop out for Max.ย  Will help to keep Max fresh if used off the bench wisely and both can occasionally rest forward to stretch and test the oppo tall defenders.

Xerri and Darling are also huge units, if we want to protect Gawn we should use another big body to match up against them

Is this a Grundy discussion?

ย

Unless we're planning to play Campbell approximately 12% time on ground (while Max is on the bench), he won't play

Wondering that myself. Looked on Marvel site and they are yet to announce where GA seats will be located. I also just want something in top deck between the 50 meter lines but no seats on sale for top deck as yet. Assume when they do open parts of it up it will be GA but not sure.

Possibly, but I canโ€™t see the sense in starting Langdon, who can play 100 mins game time, on the bench.

I think that's your only option if you wish to sit.

No GA on lower at all? Thought there was a small section on Level 1 last time I went, although i may have just stolen someone's seat after a few tins.

With North Melbourne home games at Marvel they open the top level for GA but they generally close about half of the bays.

I stand in the concourse near the Victory room. Most entrances to level one are guarded and you need a ticket.ย

Less guards at low ranked teams and more empty seats. If you wander along the concourse you may find an 'opening'.

This was Saints vs Melb, so not much of a blockbuster.ย

Campbell is zero chance as neither him or Gawn can play 70% forward ย He is there in case Gawn gets injuredย

Cant see Hore coming in this quickly. Also if Howes was to be dropped weโ€™d really want someone who can play small and Hore is more an intercept mark. Reckon weโ€™ll give Howes another week

AJ out for Turner

Larkey, Zurhaar and Curtis pose a big threat to us, and if we can shut 2 of these guys down, then that will go a long way towards winning.

Larkey's an obvious danger with May out, but it's the small -medium forwards that are continuing to cause us (and the wider AFL) damage as per Greene and Coniglio last week.

In - Turner

Out - AJ (although has it been confirmed that we accepted the week)

Langford to get a full game.

Sharp to start as sub.

Also need to be mindful that Windsor might not be available.

At the risk of upsetting my friendย ย @Ghostwriter, and a few others, and not disrespecting hs fantastic '21 GF, but I have Bailey F getting 2 more matches to show some form. Something is off, I accept that he has been hindered by injuries for awhile, and this is meant to be his first good pre season in a long time, but I would like to see more endeavour. I was however super pleased with Bowey's game last week, the arc of his kicks were much flatter, I was really worried he'd lost it. And I am firming up on Windsor through the middle before Langdon and Rivers.

The hardest positions to fill are the key positions. Theyโ€™re just isnโ€™t that many kids who are nearing 200cm who can play footy at the top level, itโ€™s pretty much always been this way and now thereโ€™s 18 teams chasing them. Richmond had Lynch and that was it, they went ok. Iโ€™m not sure this means that 2-3 big forwards is a thing of the past. We donโ€™t have an abundance of small running forwards like Hawthorn but that doesnโ€™t mean we canโ€™t beat them with 2-3 quality talls playing a system that works. Iโ€™ll give it more than 1 week before I decide which method is best. Iโ€™m confident in JVR and Turner, I thought Jefferson had an excellent debut. AJ I like but I think heโ€™ll end up fringe to our best 22. My concern atm is Fritsch. I donโ€™t remember his last great game. Again Iโ€™ll give him a few weeks but with Pickett, Spargo and Melksham soon to be back he will want to start contributing meaningfully.ย

Fritsch is the best forward we have had in 50 years. Weโ€™ve was the last generational forward of any team dropped?ย

I donโ€™t care if heโ€™s the best forward in the history of world sport. Heโ€™s not delivering, if that doesnโ€™t change and guys like JVR, Jefferson, Turner, AJ, Pickett are all playing good football then his spot may be at Casey for a few weeks. Also Iโ€™d take Neitz, Lyon, Robertson and a few others ahead over the last 50 years.ย

I like Fritta, he's been a great player and perhaps one of the best natural forwards we've had in the last 50 years.

Nowhere near the player David Neitz was.ย

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
