making some mistakes but their effort is good

Dogs have a number of huge outs. They probably should be winning games like this by now

I’m guessing Bailey Williams and Bailey Scott are non-contenders??

Bailey Scott going well and among the best for his side, but Bailey Dale brought laser sights and his own motorbike today.

Bailey Williams nothing to be thrilled about on the day. But that just shows that while not every Bailey is a champion, every champion is a Bailey.

Hope that Dogs player is ok, that was a nasty accident.

Horrific

Archer lucky not to break his leg too

Yeah he was reckless; but at full speed whether it was accidental or intentional is debatable.

Port are looking bottom 4 considering most would think the Pies are a bottom 10 side.

Who thinks the pies are bottom 10? They're totally stacked on most lines. Houston a complete game changer

Exactly. They could easily finish top 2 and it’s surreal (in a bad way) to think we were in the early running for Houston.

He was ours until the media did their work to change things.

he was ours until our season fell in a heap and our top pick become top 5 (prior to the academy and father-son selections)

there was no way we were trading the pick that become langford for him

Only hindsight will tell whether it was wise or not. Houston would absolutely help us win now and he'll probably help the Pies go quite close.

We still have our stars and the window with Gawn and May is closing, but I'm not sure the rest of our 22 is premiership quality anyway. Taking Langford could set us up to stay within striking distance in a few years time.

Is there a club that covers for injuries better than Brisbane?

And massive credit to the Dogs for winning given their state of injuries although for all we know North could once again be a bottom 2 side.

You're joking right? Good teams don't get smashed like they did against an undermanned Giants side. Happy for you to bookmark this, but the Pies won't finish in the top 8. Last night was all about Port and nothing about Collingwood.

On the Houston trade. no doubt the club wanted him but we would have to give up the Lindsay pick +.

I reckon XL will have a great career and although Houston is good, he is 10 years older than XL.

On the Pies, I predict them (and us) to rise significantly this year. At least top 6

I’d be absolutely staggered if Collingwood miss the 8.

I'd be far more staggered if they finished top 2. I certainly think they're closer to 9th than 2nd.

It's all too common to read too much into Round 1 (even Rounds 2-4). But I'm with @At the break of Gawn in that I think last night was more about Port being awful than Collingwood being amazing.

Great start for Nibbler and the Crows.

St Kilda look horrid. Incredibly vanilla football side.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
