If he is dropped I hope we know before the 13th of March. I have no opinion on whether or not he should be dropped, I’m more concerned with making a special banner and not being able to use it. Or having to leave the Jimmy side intact and last-minute changing to the other side of a heavy detailed banner which is a pain in the arze.

I’d be very surprised if he isn’t there round 1. While he may have some deficiencies, he is our most natural forward in a forward line we mostly acknowledge is lacking…

Maybe we'll see Wade Derksen line up on the MCG in round 1 after all.

Doubt it he ain’t Doug Wade.

Other team has players out .... ergo we should win!

I think we've all seen that way too many times. Never seems to end well.

I have a street party on the afternoon of the match. I'm torn.

Watching the 3rd quarter again v Freo

Salem looks fantastic and AJ is exactly the player we need. He’s tough, contests hard, hits packs and gives 100%, he can only get better.

Billing’s was ok but jeez his goal kicking is embarrassing. Imagine if we storm home in a GF against the pies after being 42 points down and the siren goes and he’s holding the ball 35m out.

Even after the siren I'd be encouraging him to hand ball it off

Apparently Hogan jammed his finger in the toilet of the club’s bus according to GWS Bigfooty forum.

Yes, he and Stringer will miss our match.

PS I have nfi what your aubergine/Rangoon analogy means.

If Fritta is dropped for Round 1, I’ll happily fly down to Melbourne, at my expense, to help you and your DA colleagues with the last minute alterations to the banner.  I’ll also twist Pickett’s arm, until he begs for mercy, and joins the working party.

I’ll wait till the teams come out on Thursday 13 March to be absolutely certain Hogan’s missing.

You'd boo Jesse Hogan?? I just don't get why any Dees fan would do that?

Purely tongue in cheek. I love Jesse, Toby, Grundy etc al.

I've put in the team I prefer now I'll put in the team that I think Goowin prefurres.

Should not be picked until his kicking improves.  Some players go through a career being a crook kick.  Expecting them to improve in the firsts does not seem to happen.

And Tom Green and Riccardi

He’ll be in the side and likely taking a wing position. His general kicking is pretty good, but at the moment his goal kicking is not good at all.

Agree. Giants will miss a few for round 1. Still likely to be a strong team with plenty of talent.  Dees missing Kozzzy and McVee from the best 22.  Like to see Sharp, Johnson and Langford debut for the Dees.

I hope we are tougher on our players this year and only give games to those who are performing and deserve it that week. No more passengers…talking to you Chandler and Bowie!!

also please Billings practice goal kicking, I want you to be great!!

Green, ricardi, hogan and stringer webbing losses and yer everyone is writing us off

First of all I detest a team nominated and only 22 named. Just because Goody very rarely uses our 23rd named is no excuse either.

Following the game vs Freo ( and Petty was out why did we not play Tmac on day on Tracey?)

we missed many tackles only half grabs mostly in defence and deep forward. I don’t think the 2 talls helped and the trio of Bowey Salem and Windsor (all very good footballers btw) was rather vanilla and looked ill equipped to put real pressure on the forwards as a team and definitely one on one.

If Windsor is at half back We need 3 talls and McVee or Rivers on one flank to be physically proficient for most attacks.

As I have suggested all summer/Pre season the Duke is a natural attacking forward style player that was lost at half back IMO and with Salem  and Bowey lacked  the grunt and physical presence plus pressure to effect the game iMO.

As for the Forward line once Rooy was off it was op against it. Again Chin is a long way off as a hf flanker and has no form for about back to KB last year.

Fritta is lost away from goals and we need all our finishers in the arc, including Trac when he rests up forward, also surely is Billing’s better nearer goals yo reach the distance at least plus I think the new players either Hendo or Culley on HFF and definitely Pup on one flank for pace and finishing and Sharp near goal when on the ground.

In the post about our forward line most got it wrong IMO and the third tall should be Jeffo.as He has more forward finishing skills than the other talls. We need players to get say 10 disposals forward and 2/3 goals plus 2/3/4 assists not 15 wasted entries like Zvoney and I thought Lingers although busy shanked his kicks a lot plus no leading didn’t help. Our below par goal kicking in the first term and last cody us  the game.

Lastly I reckon most of our match sims have been more energetic than this without Maybe the commentators reduced the skill of the game by lazy chatty style.

Sorry for the length but we have  great scope for improvement with effort team selection and two or three additions TO OUR 23.

His field kicking is actually pretty good. He's a deer in headlights in front of goal.

I've been thinking about the tackling issue since last season. I think the issue lies not with teams being poor at tackling but more the pace on the game and the strength of players core and hips, add in a bit of fatigue and it's no wonder players are breaking tackles. If you watch Salem at the moment, he's not the biggest guy but the strength through his hips is clearly very good and he breaks tackles with relative ease, often more than one. Every team is doing tackling practice but every team is also practicing using the hips to break them. It's tough out there.

He wouldn't be the first player to employ the use of an 'assistant' to take his shot - hand off to Trac, Sharp ...

At least worth a try. I'm sick of watching Billings line it up knowing full well he'll never kick a goal (from beyond 20m).

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
