I love it!!  Great to see such a strong message sent to our WA rivals and fantastic to see Brad on the front foot so strongly. Great leadership. Expressed great love for Kozzie but stressed the club comes first. Also quite pointed that if it is a WA club that it won’t be just Freo. As strong a statement that I have seen come from the club in a long time. Over to the WA teams now. They know the price.

Our Club means don't back-door ANY of WA Players either

Don't love that statement. Not Green's job to weigh in on trades just as it wasn't Pert's job to float Oliver for trade last year. Stay in your lane.

Easy cop out response from you and don’t understand this way of thinking. The role of a president is to ensure the club meets their own goals and obligations are met with regards to both an onfield and administrative sense. If Pickett is deemed to be a big piece, then he has every right.

Decision making typically goes through the board, so with Pickett being a bonefide star and big name of the club, I would imagine the president would have a sizable say in such matters. Not the be all end all, but this “stay in your lane” nonsense I don’t agree with

Elite, small forwards who are defensive and attacking are so important these days.

What was the phone call to Clarrie?

Melbourne president Brad Green could hear Clayton Oliver crying down the phone line.

The superstar Melbourne midfielder felt betrayed by the Demons after he was dangled as trade bait to Adelaide.

But three days after Oliver took matters into his own hands and met with Geelong, Green was ready to draw a big thick line on a disastrous three months and rang the jet onballer on the night of the Demons’ best and fairest.

The club was taking its fair share of responsibility for his form and fitness failures in 2024 and, under no circumstances would consider trading him, Green said into the phone.

Then came the tears.

“It was during the trade period and I said, ‘Claz, I want to tell you what I’m going to say tonight at the best-and-fairest,” Green said.

“I said to him, ‘I’m going to say that the starting-four at our first centre bounce next year will be Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Max Gawn and Jack Viney’.

“Straight away, he got emotional. I could hear him crying.

“He said, ‘Don’t do that’. And I said, ‘Why?’. He said ‘It is B&F night and it is about the award-winners, I don’t want you to speak about me’.

And I said, ‘What I want to tell you right now Clarry is that I love you, I love you being part of this club, and you are going to be an all-time great.

“I said you will be in the hall of fame, and you are not going anywhere, and that is OK.

“And he said back, ‘I love you, Greeny’, and that was it. He was happy.”

Brad Green resolved the Clarrie issue in the most effective way possible and it isn’t rocket science.

When Clarrie found out one person at our club was looking into a potential trade to Adelaide his feelings were hurt, so much so he set up a meeting with Geelong reps. Fact: he never wanted to leave the MFC, ever.

Clarrie is childlike and his reaction to feeling unwanted and undervalued is perfectly normal and to be expected. All he needed at the time was for someone to tell him he IS wanted and he IS valued and most importantly, he IS loved. Sounds simple and that’s because it IS simple. Thank goodness Brad could see this, because Clarrie needed to hear it from someone other than fans etc.

PS: my line spacing needs a good talking to. It’s not coming to the party 😑

You really have to love Brad Green, not only a champion player (who could forget his brilliance against Carlton in that qualifying final in 2000) a great captain, a committed Melbourne person and now an inspirational, generous and thoughtful President. Bravo Brad Green.❤️💙

Guess what though Freo its going to cost you the house and your farm also.

Love it.❤️

And so it [censored] we’ll should too.

He is a great small forward who can electrify a midfield. He’s also a promoters dream that puts bums on seats.

It would take a kings ransom for us to trade Kozzie prior to his contract expiring if I was in charge.

Clubs can trade 2 years in advance this year onwards. So technically you could trade 2025, 2026 and 2027 first round pick this year

I have no problems with Green's comments except the ones about Clarry in tears. You don't put that in the public domain, it's a private conversation, you can give the headlines, even just leave it at 'he got emotional', but not the specifics.

As for the bolded bit, I have to say, I find it pretty patronising.

I know you're not meaning to patronise, but it comes off a bit unkind to me.

So if a club had a pick before us they could trade it? They don't get 3 picks

Sorry I don’t understand what you mean. Teams can trade 2 years in advance plus the current year. So all teams can trade 3 first round picks if they want, the current year plus the two years coming.

This is a reminder why we shouldn't take Collingwood rejects. Pert and Neild should never have come to the club. I wont name the players because they tried but there is a long list...

Brad Green bleeds red and blue and we are a better club for him being a gun footballer, person, captain and president

Ha ha - Jason Taylor says Hello. Do appreciate you not throwing players under the bus though, I lived for a season on Dawes’s comment about that [censored] Rance sleeping in the back pocket.

To say an adult is childlike isn’t insulting or in any way negative. Folks think it is because of the ‘child’ part of the word. I have an adult son who is similarly childlike and I think it would be detrimental to pretend he isn’t.

I’m sure you agree we don’t live in a cookie cutter world. Why then should the footy world be any different?

On the subject of Brad mentioning Clarrie crying: I’m 99% sure Clarrie wouldn’t give a fat rat’s about this being made public. Besides, if Brad was in any doubt I’m sure he would’ve run it by Clarrie first.

And he’s just as happy to still be with us. Him meeting with Geelong wasn’t a sign that he wanted to leave. On the contrary, it was a sign of how hurt he was. And he was hurt because he loves our club and didn’t want to leave. I guess some people won’t believe this unless they hear it straight from him and that’s understandable. FWIW, this is straight from him.

Before I get jumped on… I’m not betraying a confidence. Claz has said he doesn’t give a sch!ttt about what people say about him so long as it’s the truth. And this is the truth.

I'm liking what Brad is doing, although I'm not sure putting a specific high price on Kozzy was such a good idea. I get that it was probably an exaggeration, but it would have been smarter to say "If Kozzy does desperately want to go home at season's end, then whichever club he nominates needs to understand we will not be compromised on any deal, which could involve multiple high draft picks or an A grader with a similar age profile."

I get what you mean but Brad was looking for impact, not a novel.

When you have the cards and are in the position to play hardball, you play it.

I liked that he spoke out and took a stance, I do kind of wish that he didn't talk prices this early on or at least said 3 top 10 picks to really price anyone out of the running.

...except when they are worth four 1st round draft picks e.g 2 this year and 2 future.  Or is pick 16, 17 and 18 something that would be acceptable as first round picks?

As a seller you don't tell the buyer what price you will accept until negotiations are near complete.  Certainly not before any bidding has started.

It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in
