Goodwin was an innovator, starting the trend of coaching from the bench. Now he should embrace the pioneer spirit again and start a new trend of coaching from home.

Who could ever forget that?! What a joyous moment. I believe it was our last game at Subiaco (?)

100% was the last game at Subiaco.

We had some amazing wins in 2017, including also knocking off Adelaide in Adelaide who were pretty dominant in the H&A that year.

One the great MFC games.

Yes, I believe so off the top of the head as 2018 was when Optus Oval was opened for AFL games. Wasn't always a happy hunting ground but glad we finished it off with a win there!

We seem to have a pretty good record in final games at venues.

Of course, I can only recall Princes Park (Robertson kicked 6 or 7) and Subiaco (Tom's day out). But how many stadiums have been cut from the AFL recently anyway?

Ah yes, another good memory! The difference being it was their final game there too, we can always hold that against the Blues 😁

He should also think about adjusting his hours as part of a flexible work arrangement - one week on one week off?

God to give credit to Roosy here, he always coached from the bench and when he was doing his consulting gig at North he coached from Hawaii!

My theory; in the absence of an assistant coach with a talent for tactical overview of a game (e.g. Yze, McQualter), but with a really strong set of line coaches with great rapport with players, Goodwin's time is most valuable in the box and he needs to clock that time to improve his ability to see and make tactical changes.

That said, he'll be coming down to the boundary for emphasis when necessary, no doubt. And to check how people are reacting and replying to his instructions.

He would've had full trust with the guys he worked with for a number of years to be his eyes in the box and also confidence in that flow of information. Now with new guys he needs to see it for himself and establish what everyone is seeing and how the assistants function.

Could be he does 6-12 weeks in the box then goes back to the bench once everything is flowing.

I do wonder who will lead the way on the bench. Maybe Sam Radford or Choco.

Jonesy is our midfield coach and Bass (Nathan Bassett) is our backs coach.

Funny story? (Sigh) Ok, if you insist 🙄

At the season launch I told Fish (Will Verrall) that I reckon the season launch is hands down the best event on the footy calendar. Better than the B&F? he asked. Way better, I told him. He said the B&F is better coz they can have a drink, and they can’t have a drink at the season launch. I said “what you can do, you can pretend you dropped something on the floor and while you’re down there, under the tablecloth, you gulp down a sneaky glass of whatever.” He thinks about it then says, “Yeah but I’m sitting next to Bass, so it’s a bit hard coz he’d be onto me.” 😳 I mean, I thought he’d know I was joking. Seems he didn’t. Seems I should watch what I say to the young ‘uns. 😂

A story about Fish and you throw in Bass. Are you an ichthyologist?

It's an interesting one, you clearly get a better picture up in the box and you can still get your message across through phones and other coaches but i reckon you're right, a new raft of personnel may well have have brought on the change. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts for.

Would like to see Choco be the main voice of the bench.

I'm not an X-er, so can only see that opening para, which includes, '...expect Goodwin to be back up to the box more...'.

'Expect': So, not definite? But, if it is, what/who is Twomey's source?

'More': So, not regular? Or even more than once more than previously?

An implementation of a recommendation of the review?

That's probably a good assumption but I think the notion that Yze and McQualter as tactical coaches having left might also be a plausible explanation.

It's possible that Jonesy as a former captain and mentor to a majority of the players could be that guy on the bench. It will be interesting to see who is placed where on match day.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
