An absolute disaster IMO, and will cost us a win in the first 3 rounds such is his importance to the team.

Whenever we need a goal to stem the flow, Kozzie can be relied upon to kick a goal from nowhere. Think the miracle win against Brisbane in 2023 when Melksham kicked the winner. But It was Kozzie that kicked the first of the last 4 goals to get us back in the game.

Not a direct replacement but there's certainly a vacancy for McAdam to make up the projected 2 goals a game we miss out from Kozzie.

lf so , who takes his position?

Yeah there’s no-one. That's the biggest problem with our list - it's not ruck, not KP, not midfield - it's small forward goal kickers.

I agree that genuine small forwards is an area we are lacking and they are really important in the modern game.

If I was Tim Lamb and Co I'd be looking at GWS as a side for recruiting opportunities, as they have an absolute plethora of small forwards.

Brent Daniels, Darcy Jones, Harvey Thomas, Phoenix Gothard, Oliver Hannaford and Toby McMullin are all essentially small to medium forwards on their list.

Realistically we have Kozzy, Chandler, Kynan Brown and Charlie Spargo....

Agree. I really like Chandler but he's not going to kick goals from forward line stoppages, he's the likely ANB replacement. Spargo isn't kicking stoppage goals either. I think Brown is probably a wing or small defender.

I still have hopes for McAdam but he's more along the Jamie Elliott lines, marking small forward.  I can see why we drafted Mentha and are trialling George.

You're right, GWS has a heap of small forward types and just drafted two more.

I think the recruiting team have identified the small forward position as a need but just haven’t been in a position to take one in the draft

In the past two years we’ve been linked to Nick Watson (we tried to trade up to draft him), Isaac Kako (would have bid on him had Essendon not traded us pick 9) and Joe Berry (I think pick 9 was a few spots too high to draft him, especially with Lindsay still on the board)

Personally I think another genuine small forward is our number one priority come trade and draft time

Watching that young man rip up a finals vs. the Dogs - wow!

Can see why we were heavily interested in him and he would have solved some of our forward line woes going forward.

Spargo has been out for a while and Chandler starts with a bang but seems to lose form.

Brown may be our best option after KP.

Honestly don’t really care at this stage of the year, really was just making an observation

We lack a small forward with Kozzy, let alone without him.

Scary thought starting next season without him not to mention it being even scarier if he leaves for another club.

An elite small forward is a desperate list need.

Surely you are kidding BBP. He struggles to hold a spot at Casey.

I don’t 100% disagree. Although I’ve seen him be a handy cog in Adelaide’s forward line in previous years.

A lot of people blaming Darcy Moore and the supposedly anti Melbourne tribunal for the latest unlucky decision against Kozzie. At the end of the day, since the start of 2023 he will have missed 7 games through suspension including the latest two season openers. When do you stop blaming others and start holding the player accountable for costing his club?

I agree with most of his offences, but this one was very different. He did not charge the player, or leave the ground, Moore slid into him and turned a normal contest into a high contact. Kozzy should have gotten a free kick for tunnelling. If he snipes someone, I'll also be blaming him, but he seems to have matured that part of his game.

Will be at least one more suspension during the year for that.

unfortunately, i agree

he does it too often, has been warned, and still continues to hit players late and high

Fair call.

But he was up against it as soon as Moore went off with concussion, in the current climate.

Bad things happen when ever we play Collingwood. Retirements, Injuries, suspensions, bad losses etc…bummed we play them twice again this year.

You can not replace Koz but Kynan is at the top of queue to fill the role in my opinion. Has repeat speed, naturally pressures and has  good drop of the ball smarts. By all he’s reports having a cracking 2nd preseason which I suggest will be rewarded.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.
